Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Hannah House

Indianapolis, Indiana

This is house is said to have been built by a German immigrant upon arrival in the United States. During the nineteenth century, this house served as a station on the underground railroad. History says that there was a terrible fire one evening and all the slaves were burned to death in the basement. In order to maintain their secrecy, the owners walled up the section of the basement that held the dead bodies. Many have reported hearing screams and moans from the basement. In an upstairs room, a woman died in agony. Today, the room is plagued by blood drenched walls, the stench of decaying flesh, and the sound of a shrill female scream.

Hannah House is sponsoring a haunted house for Halloween. The haunted house is open October 20/21 and 27/28 from 6-11 pm. The admission fee is $10 and a Free historic tour of the Hannah House is included with admission. This is your chance to get in to the house for a nominal fee. It is located at 3801 Madison Ave, in Indianapolis and the phone number for the haunted house is 317-787-8486.

I have been in the house personally twice and never experienced anything paranormal. However, I have a friend who is espescially sensitive to paranormal phenomenon and she experienced a pungent (flesh burning odor) in the basement and apparition and pungent odor in the upstairs master bedroom. She was quite affected by this and won’t go into the house again. I personally, plan on attending the haunted house this weekend. Happy Haunting!

I know a little bit about the Nicholson Mansion, When it sat on mann road before it was moved a girl named Cindy lived there. She had alot of stories about stuff that went on there. Like her family would come home and all the lights in the house would be on. I guess there were passages in the walls that would take you through the house. In her room she had a stained glass window with a cross in it, if you looked in the middle of the cross you would see the grave yard through the woods. weird But i think moving it really sucked it went great with the graveyard….

MY STEPMOM TOLD ME THIS STORY FROM WHEN SHE WAS LITTLE, THAT HER HOUSE SHE WAS LIVING IN WAS BUILT ON A GRAVE YARD AND HER HOUSE WAS HAUNTED. I REALLY DON’T BELIEVE IN GHOST BUT I KIND OF BELIEVE WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT CAUSE IF MY HOUSE WAS BUILTED ON A GRAVE YARD THEN I WOULD THINK MY HOUSE WOULD BE HAUNTED TOO.

I had never heard of the Nicholson mansion before, and I just moved down to Indy from Ft. Wayne. I drive by the mansion on my way to my cousin’s and everytime I have drivven by it I have felt like someone is watching me and I get cold chills. I have only felt this way when I was at other haunted places in Ft. Wayne. I never knew why but I guess I do now thanks for the info. I will have to visit the place sometime and investigate. It does look vacant.

Welcome to the board, Charles….please share with us your findings. I have seen many pics of it and although it looks vacant, it appears to have nailed and boarded doors and windows–not sure if you’ll be able to investigate it much. Please be careful :) and remember to post whatever you findings are.

Just got back from the Hanna Haunted House (Saturday 10/28). After my son left “Grandma’s room” and was scolded for lying on the bed, on our way back down the steps the string from the hood on his jacket was flung up in his face with force. We were stopped on the landing half way down at the time. Three people witnessed this and another person at the bottom of the stairs reported seeing a flash of light “fly” by his face at that moment. My daughter fell for no apparent reason on her way up these same stairs – as soon as we gathered at the top of the stairs the tour guide told the group some people have reported being tripped on these steps. Very creepy – definitely got our money’s worth tonight! Great time!

The Hannah House is quite a place.
I have had the privilige to visit this house a few times. Once with PROOF and another time to help with a filming of “Doing Indy” with Seth Hancock.

I guess one can say I’m a bit of a “sensitive” and I felt presences in the basement and attic of the house. A few friends of mine actually felt the same type of presence that I did. We were not even in the same rooms at the same time, but experienced similar feelings.

My friend, who is skeptical, felt something tug on her sleeve in the basement. She was very upset by this. We experienced table movement when we asked a spirit to show its self by moving or touching a table in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

The last time I went a few of us were in the upstairs bedroom and smelled cigar smoke. We confirmed the smell with one of the curators and tried to do some EVPs in the room. That was an interesting experience because we all were able to smell the trace of cigar smoke and no one in the house had been smoking at that time.

I believe there are spirits in that house. I do not believe they are malevolent but there is something other worldy there that watches over the property.

It’s a shame that no one can prove anything there….including the already set-up monitoring cameras. Anyone have any pictures that could lend proof?

Many stories; no EVP’s, no camera captures. A shame.

I had never heard of the house on southport until recently, however, in the past 3 days I’ve been to the house on three occasions, something about the house seems to be drawing me there, does anyone know if anyone lives in the house? I find something about this house extremely interesting but I don’t know why. I’ll watch for everyones posts.

Does it sound silly to say that a place place you’ve never been feels like home when you pass by.

I live 30 seconds away from the Hannah House and although I have never been inside I know it does serve as a party hall that a lot of people get married in. I have walked by it on my way home from work in the middle of the night and there was nothing out of the ordinary. I think it is a very gorgeous, historic place, and I have heard all of the stories from close friends but I have yet to witness anything for myself. What I wanted to tell all of you is that a friend’s aunt lives on Meridian north of Troy. She lives on her own except for a young female spirit who was said to have been raped and killed when she was five. I have heard many stories from the family and the woman who lives there. She says that the little girl lives in the attic where you can hear her rocking in a rocking chair. There is one bedroom in the attic and outside of that is an extended room with two closets in it. In the closet on the left side of the room the temperature is really cold and if you open the door you feel a burst of cold air. When my friend’s aunt leaves for work she will come home and the tv will be on and the remote in a different place than where she left it. Again, she is the only person who lives there. She has seen this girl and had exorcists to her house. The little girl stays there and the woman who lives there says she won’t mess with the little girl if the little girl doesn’t mess with her. I just wanted to tell you guys so you can add to the list of haunted places in Indiana. Please do not go any harass this woman or her house she is older and content with herself and the little girl. Thank you for your time and reading my story if you have any other questions you can e-mail me at downwitdaclown18@yahoo.com
