Real Haunted House

Hannah House

Indianapolis, Indiana

This is house is said to have been built by a German immigrant upon arrival in the United States. During the nineteenth century, this house served as a station on the underground railroad. History says that there was a terrible fire one evening and all the slaves were burned to death in the basement. In order to maintain their secrecy, the owners walled up the section of the basement that held the dead bodies. Many have reported hearing screams and moans from the basement. In an upstairs room, a woman died in agony. Today, the room is plagued by blood drenched walls, the stench of decaying flesh, and the sound of a shrill female scream.

Sorry about this but I have the wrong house, after reviewing my story with my friend she said that her aunt lives south of troy on meridian near bynaum’s steakhouse. i don’t know which house (she was trying to describe it but I couldn’t place it) Another relative lives in the house across the street from the green houses. Its hard to keep track of a friend’s relatives when they have a ton!

Casey / Amey—you guys said you were going (went) to the house over Halloween….what did you find?

I’m convinced that the place is hyped to have people pay the bills to keep the place a national landmark until anyone produces evidence otherwise.

Hey Jason it’s Kimmy Kim…….Would you happen to know anything about the house on Mann and Southport Road being a big bad ghost hunter now and all??? I will hit you up on myspace as well. I would like to get some more info for Dave if I could. I am going to drive by there this weekend and try to take some updated pics of the place and see if I can’t get something on film from the outside. That is how the news station picked up the pictures of the little girl in the window. My email is further up if you want copies. Dave I will send you some via email, same with you Jason (if you want them). Dave I have not fallen off the face of the earth just yet sorry for not getting back with you after your last email. Hope you all are being friendly to your ghostly spirits and happy haunting.

Hey Kimmy Kim! I hadnt’t checked this site for awhile and was glad to read your comment from 11/29 about the possible video and pix of the house and area. I’m super-stoked now :)

Went on one investigation since we last swapped emails….another joint here in Kansas…called the Lorenz Schlicter Cemetery located in Burlington, KS. The place is called “Child’s Play” cemetery in legend because of most of the graves are occupied by children under the age of 10, sadly.

I’ll give you the detailed scoop on my reply email to my home address when you get the chance to email me….

Till then—MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Dave

I have been to Hannah House on numerous occasions. I have done in depth investigating quite a few times. I
have also spent the night there a few times. First of all, the house is just beautiful. Anyone should be happy visiting there to feel the link to the past that Hannah House gives you.
Is the house haunted? In my opinion, I would most definitey say yes. We have caught strange things in pictures, we have caught some incredible EVP on many occasions as well. I have been witness to people getting touched, feeling like there is a hand running through their hair, and having certain clothing items pulled and snapped. I have witnessed objects move, and have seen a black mist cloud appear in front of me, grow to about 5 feet in diameter and then evaporate into nothing right in front of me. Yes, the house is haunted.
Just because something doesn’t happen the time you are there, Dave, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen other times. It also doesn’t give you the right to say mean things about the house, or those who run the house. The people that run the house are incredible, and some of the nicest people I know. The ghost group you spoke of has no affiliation with the house other than they do a few overnighters there. On many occasions I have been visiting the House and nothing has happened. You never can tell when something will happen. I will say that out of 10 times I go there, something will happen on 6 or 7 of those visits. When hunting Ghosts and looking for Paranormal activity, I will take that percentage anytime.
For those that want to know more about the house, or experience it for yourselves, I suggest you request information at info@thehannahmansion.org

To Josh,

I don’t believe that Dave was trying to be MEAN to anyone!!! These are just different people’s opinions on this forum. Aren’t these forums places for people to speak their opinion and get other’s opinions?? I think Dave has not had any paranormal experiences so he is very skeptical. He is wishing that someone could show him some proof. Is that so hard to ask?? I think what YOU said was very mean and defensive. Defensive, I understand, if you know the owners, that’s fine. I’m sure Dave didn’t mean to say anything mean about the owners, he doesn’t know them and he seems like a nice guy. Maybe you should post some paranormal proof!!!!!!! I’d like to see it myself!!!

The last time I was in Hannah House was 1981 when my girl friend and I wanted to go to a haunted house in October for Halloween. I remember the line was very long and it took over an hour in the rain just to get in. The house was in need of repair, some rooms had no floors and plaster was coming of the walls but it did make for a very good haunted house. The only thing I seen out of the ordinary while in the basement I felt someone grab my legs and feet but I brushed it off as part of the activities. But I never knew the house was really haunted till several years later. Now I am part of a team that investigates paranormal activity in private residents and business in the Indiana area. I think some business rely on the paranormal because of its profitability like Hannah House.

My cousin Brian lived in that city and he took me to that house. We heard a girl call my name and ask for me to put out the fire. Dudes I was scared. That night I went to bed with that same dream. She was still calling my name.

I live in Sandeago California and have been to the Whaley house. You can read my comment. My name is Amy. But the hannah house was really scary.

PLEASE DONT LET THEM HAUNT ME!!

I dont think Dave was being mean either. He was speaking his piece of mind. A lot of people dont believe Hannah House is haunted, most of them think this is a way to make money for the up keep to the house. Everynody has the right to say what they want, freedom of speech.

I have been to the Hanna house several times. I live in Indiana and go there for Halloween. I think that it is scary but I have not really felt uncomfortable. I Think it is in all our minds. I mean I believe in spirits but I just don’t think the hype for the Hanna house is needed. They have not had anything reported in such a long time. I think I have been more scared with there hunted house set up than anything. Maybe I am wrong maybe not who knows I guess.

Hello- I am not really a believer of “ghost and goblins”. However, I was at the Hannah House Sat. I am going to have my wedding there this year. Other than a Haunted House, the mansion serves as a Reception/Wedding/Party facility. When I walked into the house within moments I felt a warm welcome feeling. Like something or someone was telling me that this was the place. It was freezing that night, but I was so warm. My cheeks were even flushed. I have looked at several places over the last few months. This was one of the last ones. Anyway, my thought on the House is that if there are spirits there they are not all bad. As far as the “red walls” there is a room on the second floor with red wallpaper. I talked to the owner about the condition of the house as far as was everything original from when it was built in 1858. I was advised that when the house was taken over in 1988-1900 there were updates and upgrades done. So, I am sure if there were blood on the walls/blood stained walls carpet, it was removed at that time. In closing I think that yes, there is something about that house, but I do not think it is a bad thing.

I have not been to the Hanna House but I went to the univeristy that is about half a block away from it. The university of Indianapolis. I went there four years and never stopped by the house. I had friends that did go for halloween and they were not spooked, but said the house was awesome to go visit even if it is just for fun. I would love to go though, maybe soon!

Hey all…I live minutes from Hanna House…I pass it multiple times a week and have not seen anything out of the ordinary I do get a weird feeling when I drive by. The reason for my post is to share my experience with my own house. I live about a mile away from the Hanna house off of Shelby street by the Boys and Girls Club. The house I live in has been owned by my grandmother since the early 50’s she acquired it in an auction. Evidently the previous owner was an older woman who had lived in the house most of her life as well. I do not know much about what happened in the house prior to my Grandmother buying it, but since she bought it 5 people that I know of have passed away in the house, or at least were very ill and spent there last months in the house and passed in the hospital. One of these people is my Grandfather, He is the strongest presence with me I feel him almost all the time on multiple occasions he has brushed my hair back, and once even wiped a tear from my face. I always know its him because I can smell his aftershave. Other people who have stayed with us have reported hearing footsteps in the hallway, or a sence of someone watching them in one of the bedrooms. My best friend swears she saw an older man with a cane (my great grandfather) walking accross the yard one night. I have never felt scared or threatened by anything in my house, Grandpa always comforts me or reasures me. One evening however I had to take my Grandma to the hospital for some breathing problems and I came back just before dawn to catch a few hours of sleep before going back to the hospital. I was sitting in the living room for a moment to flip through the mail and what not when the alarm clock in Grandma’s bedroom went off. I went in there not thinking much of it, and turned it off, I figured she had set it the day before to get up early for whatever reason. As I was leaving the room after quickly turning it off it came on again, so I just turned it off once again not thinking much of it. However when I was in the doorway between the bedroom and the living room and it turned on again I got a little creeped out. So I unplugged it from the wall and once again it turned on when I left the room. I walked back into the room and it turned off…I calmly said aloud…”Please let me sleep, I have to be back at the hospital in a few hours” it did not turn back on after that. To this day I do not know who it was but someone was being playful with me that night. Grandma was laying in bed another night shortly after her sister passed away and every few minutes the night she passed Grandma’s bedside lamp would turn on, she would turn it off and a few minutes later it would flip back on again. This is particularly creepy since one of their most recent phone conversations my Aunt was joking with Grandma and told her that when she passed she would come back and haunt my Grandma. This night Grandma got fed up with reaching up and turning the light off so she said aloud “Bernice…let me go to sleep now, I know you are with me and I love you now just settle down” the light did not flip back on. We also have hot and cold spots in the house, and unexplained noises in the night. Things get moved around such as the knick knacks that sit on the shelves and in Grandma’s cabinets get taken out and placed in the middle of the living room floor, Pictures fall off the wall onto the floor, yet do not break. Its rather eerie, But as I said before I have never felt threatened, if anything they are welcoming. I was a huge skeptic before moving in with Grandma, now I am a die hard believer.

I’ve heard all the stories of this house. some are ridiculous others are most certianly real. But what gets me the most is that i live near it and, i laugh my a** off every night in october because i can here the screams from the visitors in the basement. its in a cycle, too. So every scream is on cue. LOFL.
