Real Haunted House

Hart Cemetery

Konawa, Oklahoma

This cemetery is said to be guard be a set of “demon horses.” These horses allegedly walk on air and have eyes of fire. In the rear portion of the cemetery is an old school house that dates back to the nineteenth century. Legend has it that the all the pupils of the school were killed in a horrible bus accident. It is said that at night one may hear children playing and talking, though nothing is there.

I have been there. I used to live near konowa and there are no demon horses. But there are ghosts. They are everywhere they are old civil war looking people and some of the people that were accused of being witches back in the day and all that good stuff. These are not nice spirits they do not want to be bothered.

I grew up in Konawa. There are many legends in the area, but I have never heard of this one. Ask about the gravestones in the Konawa Cemetery regarding “killed by human wolves” and the flashing blue light. Ask about the Sacred Heart Mission and the mist that travels across the old school grounds there. Ask about the old lady and the panther who walk the night. Anyone from the area will know these, but I doubt many have heard of demon horses.

April says:

The part about the kids may be true…but I seriously doubt if your going to see demonic horses…and there was no such thing as a school bus back then.

I leave near Konawa and i’ve heard many stupid stories. But that has to be the worse! Yes their are some ghost that are around the cemetary. Alot of sacrafices and other deaths have happend there but nothing like that.

Josh says:

September 6, 2006, 2:08 pm

Ok the **** about the bus is stupid because, like others pointed out, it was the 19th century. What I have heard is that it was a cathlic school and that it burned down killing the students. Also just like all other haunted places in Oklahoma it is
rumored to be built on an Indian burial ground. I have heard many stories that devil worshipers used to meet and do wierd sacrifices out there. It is a very creepy place at night. It is in the middle of nowhere. You just have to see it at night to see what I mean. Just do’nt get caught there is a fine for trespassers after dark. There are even cops out there on Halloween and Friday the 13th.

If you do go out there be sure to drive by the gate. It is closed as you drive by it, but when you drive back from the other direction it lokks open.

Having been to hart cemetary myself I can definately say it’s not haunted. It is a rather large cemetary with lots of old graves dating in the mid-eighteenth century. The spookiest thing we heard were wolves howling in the distance. Rumor has it that hart cemetary is mistaken for sacred hart cemetary which is further north-west from hart cemetary. which I have yet to visit.

I went to college in Ada back in the 80’s. We used to get girls and take them out to Sacred Heart Mission. That place definetly has some creepy stuff happening. One night we went out earlier than the guys bringing the girls , we were going to scare them. we walked up on a satanic looking worship service in one of the buildings. they were listening to dude holding a cup that he poured red stuff out of onto a girls bare breasts!! we watched from the window. we then ran like crazy. it is a rush to go out there!!! do it late at night! don’t forget to touch the cross in the graveyard for safety!! I could tell a lot of stories about this place . if you are around there and want a scarey experience , you gotta go! I don’t know what is like now , this all happened 20 years ago..

I have never been to Hart at night though but I heard it was fin scarey. To get to it you have to go down lightening ridge road it is off of a gravel road there.

I went to the Heart Cemetary last night at like midnight, and I saw the Demon Horses guarding the front gate. I had to walk right through them. I heard the children laughing and singing and then they started praising the devil, they started sliting their wrists. Right next to the ghost children were humans worshiping the devil, then one of the people saw me and they grabed me by my wrists and made me sacrifice my soul, then they made me slit my wrists.

OK, I went out to Sacred Heart Mission tonight. It was about ten times creepy. The thing about the gate is right, I saw it with my own two eyes, and the explaination I got for that was that the original groundskeeper from way back when uses your vehicle as his entry to the cemetary. You drive past it once, it’s padlocked and chained. You turn around, and drive back past it, and it’s open, suppossedly by the groundskeeper because he wants you to come in. It creeped me out. As we were driving back by the actual church, I looked over and saw what looked like an old, turn of the century cop car. I asked my friend later, and she saw it too. Apparently, there was a cop that was killed out there, and he’s still there. One of my friends claims to have been pulled over by this cop, with a pale white face and a grin from ear to ear. Can anyone say creepy?

One day, I was walking in front of this place, (I swear this is true), I looked down and found a penny. Picked it up (you know, because all day long you’ll have good luck), well anyway, I picked it up. Then all of a sudden, I crapped my pants. Damn penny didn’t bring me any good luck. So I threw it down and kept walking.

What’s the story behind the “human wolf” headstone?

wildride says:

November 3, 2007, 11:03 pm

Human wolves were surgeons back in the day….they killed everyone they worked on pretty much….and imagine a body that they operated on! There are also killed by human wolves in the wolf cemetary. There are a lot of haunted places around Konawa…The wild woman and panther run the creek back behind my house! I have also seen the creepy **** at the local cemetaries…..My son has also seen my grandma that died in the early 80’s in my front yard..Another good haunted house is inbetween Seminole and Maud, used to be the Carr City School. Theres several ghosts there.

One night me and a couple friends were out jacking around so we decided to go check out Sacred Heart. We drove around it once and then parked our car on the side. We went up to the gate and was about to go in when a cop stopped us and said “that he just saved our lives”. He then pointed his hand at a bunch of devil worshipers and said that he was to scared to go in and arrest them. THIS IS VERY TRUE!!!!!!!

I just want to add that I have driven past a cemetery somewhere near Konawa at 3am and seen the gate thing happen. It was probably the freakiest thing I have ever witnessed. Just drive past the cemetery at a normal speed and pay close attention to the padlock on the gate. Then turn around and drive back by the gate and see it wide open with the padlock hanging from a chain but still locked. I had told this story several times since it happened and I’m glad to hear others have witnessed it too.

i use to live in Ada when i was a small child. i can not remember the name of the street. but anyone who lives in ada will know. from Abbots store. take 4th street west about 3 block till you have to turn. go right this road will take you down around a curve with a cemetary. there is a 2 story white house that sits on the corner. i lived in that house for about 6 months. so many things happend when i lived there. my brother was locked in his toy box. when we were moving in. everything we took upstairs was brought back down the first 3 days. and many many more things.

to laynette about the norfolk school in cushing. i also have been there. i have taken my teenage kids and thier friends. i have voice recordings of the kids screaming. my mother went with us. she found an old door knob, she wanted to take it with her, but when she stepped outside the building. she was shoved down and the door knob flew from her hands. ofcourse we left it and left the site. we have been nack many times. everything we can find out is true about the children being killed.

Can anyone spell properly?…Anyway,I think it,s stupid to believe that people could be killed in a bus accident in the 19th century.Duh!And if there is so much devil worshiping going on,then has anyone thought that it may be demons that are manifesting in that cemetary? If you open a door, they will enter.I do beleive there are ghosts of the deceased, but there are also demons,(fallen angels)who will try to bother people if they have had a door opened to them.So do be careful.

Okay, I think I see what the mix up is here about the demon horses! I live outside of Roff, Oklahoma and there is a small cemetery here called “Hart”, not “Sacred Hart” as in Konawa. “Hart” Cemetery in Roff is where the ghost horses are supposed to be. I have never seen them, but I know several people that have claimed to have. My group often visits this cemetery because there is a lot of activity there, we have pictures of strange things we have taken there and we always hear strange noises. And just to add another thing, Haunted Hill at Springer, Oklahoma is real, the car rolling uphill! It happens everytime we go there! That is a place we often go, also. We have some amazing pictures and video from that place! Not just from the car rolling uphill, but from the small rock house that sits behind the fence there. There is ALOT of paranormal activity there. We have the proof on film and video!

Oh, just to let everyone know, “Hart Cemetery” is between Vanoss and Roff. I have lived outside of Roff all my life and we just consider it to be Roff. When you go down Lightning Ridge Road, turn East beside the Lightning Ride Cemetery. Keep going, you’ll see the “Hart Cemetery” sign on the North side of the road. Some people do not believe that this place exists! I have a relative buried there from the 1920’s! It is a real place. Check it out! The best activity takes place after about 1 a.m! I have yet to see the Demon Horses, but I’m patiently waiting…

I am the founder of G.H.O.S.T. (Ghost Hunters of Oklahomas Southeast Territories) i live in Mcalester now but used to live in Ada. The cemetery is sacred heart cemetery and actually the grounds you go into contain mostly the graves of old monks and nuns. the public portion of the cemetery is up by the old church.
yes I have heard about the cop. There is also a couple who died out there in the 40s according to some locals. they have approached people claiming to have lost their keys and needing you to enter the bushes to find them. I only found out about this because it happened to us.
I really thought that they were sincere they didnt look out of place or oddly dressed. which given the fashions these days who can tell. Anyway I had gone back to the car to get a spare battery when i was approached by this couple in “need of help”. All i had to do to help them was to “just look over in those trees for our keys..” so.. being 25 and alone in the woods because my group was down by the old grounds… i declined. They got a bit desperate but I got kind of firm with them and they took off running into the woods. I decided against getting the battery and went back down and got my group and told them we needed to go.
I told my friends dad who has lived there his whole life what had happened and he got really mad and paniced and was like “DO NOT GO BACK IN THERE!” and lectured me and all of us.
The next time I saw him he told me that he had seen them years ago when he was a teenager and he was 55. So you can imagine the chills I got.
There is a lot of history associated with the grounds and it is really a great place for EVP work and Photography.
I know this all sounds unbelieveable but I make a living out of debunking stories. I was there.. I saw it…i cannot explain how we both saw the same thing yet he saw it 40 years earlier.
I used to take people out there every weekend and sneak them in.
There is a thing about the gate. its the way it sits. Its an optical illusion. If you drive one way you can see that the gate is locked clearly. When you come back it looks open. Its not usually. Something about catholic padlocks.. tough material.
I will welcome questions and tell whatever I can to whomever. my email is biker_banshee@yahoo.com

Okay, we finally went to Sacred Heart Cemetery and checked it out last night! We didn’t go in of course because we didn’t want any trouble because of the “No Trespassing After Dark” sign. We will go back during the day to investigate further, I couldn’t go in the at night, anyway! I got the cold chills just being near it. We wanted to investigate the whole legend about the gate! Okay, it IS an optical illusion, like Christin stated above. Most people just see what looks like an open gate, they freak out and drive off. We actually thought the gate was open, too, when we turned around and came back. We got all excited, but we stopped and got out to look and was disappointed with the illusion trick in the dark. And I am looking for the grave with the “Human Wolves” engraving, also. Where is this? I thought it was IN Sacred Heart! I didn’t see any “Purple” Cemetery. I seen a “Violet Springs” Cemetery. Is this the one? Someone please let me know! I need a picture of this grave to show some people who do not believe it exists! But, I know it does, because I seen it as a child. Just don’t remember where in Konawa! Someone please help! Also, can you go in Sacred Heart during the day? Legally? We heard it is completely off limits to the public! My group really needs this info! Josh o.p.i says:

August 17, 2008, 10:50 am

Well my team went out to Hart Cemetery and Sacred Heart Missions lastnight. I have to say we were a little upset and Hart Cemetery. We went out there and did not get any activity. There wasn’t a feel or anything out there. From the research we have done it seems to be a local legend area. Nothing big going on out there. The best part was scaring off some students that was going out to party. This is just a local party area. its off the road and difficult to find.

Now for Sacred Heart Missions. This place had an entirely different feel. We visited the church and the cemetery. One thing we was for sure about is the house that is next to the church. Some people say Monks still live in there and some say they used to live there. Either way there wasn’t much happening at the church and the cemetery. We then took the short drive down to the OLD grounds. I can see why some people would say they saw the Demonic Horses. They actually have a sign with to lights in it. If you don’t get close enough some people could get scared because of the legend and not want to get close enough to dismiss it. It looks like they have put up a new silver pole gate. Along with the old black gate. The old black gate was left open but the silver pole was closed. There is a sign that says “Do not tresspass after midnight”. Well we couldn’t help but walk in there. We got in about 20 feet and activity picked up big time. When we walked into the area it was dead silent. We walked up into where the trees started and the bugs and animals got very active. They started chirping and howling. One of the team members thougtthey saw a black mass bt wasn’t for sure. From there we decided to get back and get into the truck. once we got back in the truck a whole new activity started happening. We had our EMF detector and EVP on. Our EMF started going crazy. This thing was acting very strange. We were trying to ask questions but got no answers. But we were able to get the EMF reading recorded on the EVP. While in the middle of this i asked our driver to look in the rear view mirror because i felt something behind me. right when i said that another team member said they hard something right out side. As soon as he said that the doom light came on. there is noe explanation to why the light came on. The truck was turned off and no one turned the lights on. At that point we thought it be best to get ut of there.

we are going to go over everthing we have and plan another trip out there. We are going to try and get ino contact with te owners and see if we can get permission to be out there. If anyone has any information please pass it on.

Overall it was a good night. If anyone goes out there just be careful.

Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

I would like to share my story. I grew up in Paoli, and Scared Heart Cemetary is the creepiest place ever!! Back in 1991, me and several of my friends went there and crawled over the fence and had a horrible night. We seen red lights on in the old building in the middle of the cemetery. We got spooked and started back to the cars when several things happened, people or whatever they were started chasing us. They were dressed in white robes and had very deep voices. We all got split up from running so fast and me and two of my friends had to hide under some thorn bushes. Whatever was out there walked about 30ft from us. There were a couple of dead animals laying on there backs with there stomachs wide open. Finally they left so we crawled slowly until we found a path and started running for our lives. I was terrified! I was dressed all in white. You know ,stoned washed Guess genes and white keds, so my friend took off his shirt so i couls cover up with it,it was dark blue. Anyway, we were trying to walk slowly and under trees not to be noticed, trying to find the rest of our group when we seen something far off in white walking around so we got in a creek and hid for awhile. When we thought it was safe we started walking towards the front gate when we seen police lights and my friend yelled my name so i took off running towards them and ran smack dab into a bobbed wire fence. The police had already had them and when I finally walked up the police shined his light on my leg and I had sliced my leg right above my left knee. They told us they were gonna let us go so I could get to the hospital. I had lost that blue shirt and when the guys went back in the DAYLIGHT the next day, that shirt was folded up on the fence where i ran into it at. I need stiches but refused to get them so needless to say i have a scar there to remind my for the rest of my life to NEVER go back there again!! The police also told us that there is rumors of devil worshipers that frequent there. True story, so if you plan to go there, please be careful. There are some sick people in this world, things we can explain and some we cannot. On a side note, look up Centrahoma and the ghost of little Michael. Been there and went to the house. Twila might be there and will let you in the house to witness it for yourself. (verrry haunted)! Thanks for reading.

I haven’t been to the Hart Cemetery, but I’ve been to the Violet Springs Cemetery and Sacred Heart. Violet Springs is the one that has the “murdered by human wolves” headstone. There are two parts to it — one is smaller and most of the graves there are for children, it seems. My friends and I went looking for the headstone there and couldn’t find it, so we think it must be in the bigger part across the street (it was too cold to continue searching). I’ve been out there at night and I did see a weird flash of red in front of us. There was no way a red light from our car could have caused it because, of course, the brake light is in the back of the car. That was weird.

Sacred Heart is really beautiful. I don’t know about haunted, but it’s really neat and has kind of a peaceful feeling to it. The first time we went out there we did get stuck in a huge ditch right outside the gates of the mission — look to the left of the gate when you’re facing the trail in and you’ll see the ditch our car fell into. I don’t think it was ghosts; I think it was just bad luck.

i am from dallas texas and i work for rainbow. I go to oklahome once a month to shampoo jack in the box carpets.i always went down road 48 and never had a problem. one day i pulled over to to pee and looked behind me and seen two black horses with red eyes pulling a old empty carrege with no one in it.i was freeked out to see the red eyes, i thought i lost my mind. well i got back in the van and tryed to catch up pushing it over 100 miles an hour and they disapared in sight like a mirrauge or something. i remember where i seen them i was peeing looking at a cemitary that had the word mason doem on it.when i went back after work to dallas i went back to road 48 and i looked for that cemitary with mason.when i found it my tire blew and i had to change tires. i then heard horses coming but didnt see anything.i dont know what to say about this. it was totally scary and strange. i never went back since someone eles took the contract from me. i have been looking for this on google for the longest and this seems to be a match.only wish i wasnt the only one to here this too
