Real Haunted House

Hatchet Lady Bridge

Golden, Colorado

Beneath this bridge, the decapitated body of Adolph Coors’ son was found. If one cross the bridge in a car, it will sputter inexplicably. The car does not completely lose control, however, and one can safely make it across the bridge.

Sorry if someone has already said this, BUT, Hatchet Lady Bridge is located off of 470 on Turkey Creek Road. I realize cars stutter, but I’ve been there three times and EACH time, the car has stuttered and the steering goes a teeny bit screwy *just enough to make you sweat, but not enough to make you think you’re going to go off the road or into a ditch*

I’ve heard the story the same way as Dylan, lived in Lakewood most of my life and that story was a favorite at summer camp.

Yes it is true, I grew up in wheatridge colorado and we would go party at red roks all the time, I have seen the ghost they call hatchet lady a number of times, always when we were climbing, I have also seen her at the amplatheater about 20rows up floating across the stairs,Red rocks sure does have alot of paronormal activity,I think due to al the rock climbing accedents that have happend up ther, i personally say a friend of mine fall 25 feet of of castle rock and break bolth of his ankles, very dangerous and illegle for that reason, but ther is no other place like stairway to heaven on top of shiprock not to many people will ever see that up ther, Im am lucky enough to hav been ther and saw it, but its no place you want to be alone thats for sure, cause the spirits up ther will scar the sh*t out of you!!

NO truth to this story what-so-ever! Another group trying to make a name for themselves. There was never a Coors family member beheaded and no body found under the bridge. If your car sputtered……get a tune-up!

I remember being out at Red Rocks on a sunny saturday morning in the early 80′s. There were maybe 50 or so people scattered about inside. Up there in that cave on “Shiprock”, the one towards the north, there were two clowns, showoffs, or two dudes just craving attention was up there horse-playing around. They had a boom-box radio playing and all of sudden, we heard that radio playing as it fell over the edge and busted into a million pieces. Alot of people started yelling at them to come down or they would call police. Both of them yelled back at the same time and said they never touched the radio and was nowhere near it. They swore to it. Serious as a heart attack.
Alot of guys take their classic rides up to Red Rocks for photo shoots. I’ve seen quite a few of those photos. You would not believe the white areas that appear in the backgrounds. If you are there at night, ANY night, and it’s really quiet, you would not believe all the different sounds that echoe and/or carry, and ricochet off the rocks. Yes, you will see lights too, but you won’t be able to tell what some of them are. It is possible that one could be a lantern. I think everyone should go there at least once in their life. It’s definantly NOT a waste of your time.

the story about the hatchet lady bridge is lame i think it’s just a myth that someone made up to get poor little people who believe in anything scared and believing that things like that actually exist when they shouldn’t so find something else to do with your spare time than making up stories ,and the name is stupid.

Adolph Coors III died by gunshots on the bridge Joseph Corbett on Feb. 9, 1960. He was found months later in a garbage dump near Denver. I got this info from a website that had the story from Adolph Coors IV mouth.

I’ve grown up in and around Denver all my life. I too spent a lot of time at Red Rocks as a teenager. I’ve seen the hatchet lady many times. It is a lantern she carries, not a hatchet. I’ve wondered why she was called the Hatchet Lady ever since the first time I saw her. She does have long dark hair and exudes an oura of sadness. She’s never acknowledged me or any of my friends, just ignoring us as she walked. There are many strange lights and sounds at Red Rocks at night time, even in areas not usually frequented by people. There no portals or holes to anywhere. The winds that blow through many of the rock formations sound very strange at night and some are very strong. But the Hatchet Lady is the only thing me or my frineds as actually seen.

Actually it was his grandson who was killed. Adolph Coors III was killed in a foiled kidnapping attempt and found months later in the pike peak vicinity appox. 100 miles away. I was born and raised in CO and this knowledge you can find on the brewery tours.

The Hatchet Lady stories also existed up at Camp Santa Maria just west of Bailey Colorado. I remember the stories as a kid attending the camp (1973-75) and up at the door way entrance of the big statue were hatchet marks.

We spent 2 months investigating and researching the urban legend of this bridge. The bridge no longer exists and Coors’ body WAS NOT found under the bridge. To find out the real location where Adolph Coors III’s body was found, check out our investigations section on our website (under Adolph Coors III, of course).

When I was little I used to go to Camp Santa Maria during the summer (I was only 7) and I heard stories about the Hatchet Lady. It scared the hell out of me. Now (13 years later) I don’t really think that the tiny house at the bottom edge of the field was really hers. But while I was at camp we went for a hike one day and a boy I was walking with threw a huge rock down over the ledge and it hit the roof and made a hole. Then there was a really scary, strange noise that none of us could really put into words and saw a shadow dart out of the house towards the ledge. We weren’t sure what it was and we were terrified so we ran as fast as we could to catch up with our counselors. We never told them what we did but we never ever went near there again. Like I said I know there is no chance it could be her home but seeing this brought back that memory.

The person who was killed was actually the great grandson of Mr. Coors and as a colorado native with family going back to 1877 I can say that 1. the boys body was found at the base of pikes peak in Co. Springs some 100 miles from golden and 2. Its hatchet bridge because of the family farm that occupied the bulk of the area for arounf 70 yrs. Hope it helps clear things up :D

SirisNC – the body was not found in Colorado Springs but outside of Sedalia, CO. We found the exact spot the body was found. And he wasn’t a boy, but a 44 year old man. Read about it on our website. http://www.coloradoghosthunters.org/investigations/hatchet-lady-bridge/colorado-ghost-hunters-hatchet-lady-bridge-investigation.html
