Adolph Coors III was not beheaded. He was shot in the back twice by a man named Joseph Corbett Jr in a botched kidnapping. A milk delivery man found Coor’s station wagon on a narrow timber bridge over Turkey Creek. He also found a hat,glasses and blood. Many months later Coor’s remains were found in a dumo by a hunter. Corbett was put on the FBI’s most wanted list and was finally arrested and convicted of first degree murder. He was paroled after a little less than 19 years and lived well into his 80′s until he committed suicide. He was not decapitaed and his head was not thrown into the creek.

I, too went to Alameda High School, 1972-1973. I have to agree with Barbara, same school, same years. We all used to go to Red Rocks Park to party, and the hatchet lady would supposedly jump onto your car, etc, if she found you there. The Hatchet Lady had absolutely nothing to do with the Coors family!! They are 2 separate stories!!

as my great grandmother told me the hachet lady was a navajo indian who wedded a soldier in the 1800sand the where very much in love , and they owned a cabin in red rocks the had a small farm started when it was failing hethe soldier had to leave his young indian wife who was 5months with child to go find work he was gone for months and his wife had the child alone in the cabin haveing little to no food to feed her self or the child she started to get crazy thoughts and the child was hungry and crying and crying the screams of her child got to her with no food to feed the child she took it’s life she went to the shed and grabbed the hachet and came back and be headed the child as she sat there crying holding the child her husband came home seeing what she had done he went for his riffle ,and shot her hitting her and her haveing the hachet as he nelt over his child beheaded body she swung the hachet takeing his head off then went out and got on his horse to find help as going through the canyons she died on the horse , wandering for ever as her punishment , and every time she hears a baby cry she wants it:s head and every time she sees couples in love she want them dead

Whether Adolph Coors III was killed there is unknown. His body was found several months after his disappearance near Pikes Peak, some 80 miles south of Golden. Much of his extremeties were missing and attributed to wildlife. The Hatchet Lady, as I heard it, was some crazy woman that lived on the outskirts of town (Golden) and supposedly haunted the grounds of Red Rocks. Back in the day when you could climb the rocks (it’s all baracaded now) there was a passage that began with a small opening (you had to belly crawl into)… that led to a room with a “table” rock that no one could ever figure out how it got there (prob. fell from the ceiling:-) anyway, you’d go up a narrow passage and jump 2 ft over an opening that would kill you if you missed and on the other side you could see over the entire ampitheater. There’s a lot of little bridges in and around Golden, none that I ever heard was haunted.

I’m 57 and grew up in Denver and Lakewood. The story that I was always told was that the city of Denver recognized the potential tourist value of the Red Rocks area, and annexed it even though it is separated from Denver geographically by several miles. The hatchet lady was supposedly a woman who owned and lived on a portion of this land and was forced to give the land up. This enraged her (and she was somewhat demented anyway) and she went after random people with a hatchet. I doubt whether any of this is documented and frankly it’s likely not true, but that was the story. Supposedly you can invoke the hatchet lady by going down the amphitheater steps, stopping each seven steps and saying “hatchet lady come to me”.

The story of the hatchet lady is true. I was born and raised her in Colorado and have herd the story many times. Down in Golden CO. there is a museum of the history of Golden and there you can read the story. You are supposedly able to summons the hatchet lady by going to red rocks ampa theater and sit in the 13th seat in the 13th row at 2am and say hatchet lady 13 times. Have I done this? Yes several times last time I was in high school. We saw and herd nothing but there are many who say they have experienced things .Now as fare as the cores boy yes that happened as well and no the head was not found and was not taken off or taken by his kidnaper. As for the bridge nothing has ever happened to any of my vehicles In all my 41 years hear.

SirisNC – the body was not found in Colorado Springs but outside of Sedalia, CO. We found the exact spot the body was found. And he wasn’t a boy, but a 44 year old man. The person who was killed was actually the great grandson of Mr. Coors and as a colorado native with family going back to 1877 I can say that 1. the boys body was found at the base of pikes peak in Co. Springs some 100 miles from golden and 2. Its hatchet bridge because of the family farm that occupied the bulk of the area for arounf 70 yrs. Hope it helps clear things up

When I was little I used to go to Camp Santa Maria during the summer (I was only 7) and I heard stories about the Hatchet Lady. It scared the hell out of me. Now (13 years later) I don’t really think that the tiny house at the bottom edge of the field was really hers. But while I was at camp we went for a hike one day and a boy I was walking with threw a huge rock down over the ledge and it hit the roof and made a hole. Then there was a really scary, strange noise that none of us could really put into words and saw a shadow dart out of the house towards the ledge. We weren’t sure what it was and we were terrified so we ran as fast as we could to catch up with our counselors. We never told them what we did but we never ever went near there again. Like I said I know there is no chance it could be her home but seeing this brought back that memory.
