Haunted Skating Rink
Before this skating rink was built in the 1970’s in a swamp, locals begged for it not to be built, as the area had sentimental value. The builder dismissed their claims and built anyway. Later, it was learned that in the early 1900’s, a young boy, Gilbert, lived in the area. Despite his mother’s warnings not to venture too close to the swamp, Gilbert was found by his father one day lying face down in the water. It is supposed that Gilbert’s ghost is responsible for many hauntings which include tampering with DJ equipment and turning on and off water faucets and lights.

I grew up right down the street from the skatin place and I hung out there a lot as a kid. I can’t say that I ever experienced anything there but I have heard this story before. I can say that my house was very close to this and MY house was very haunted. I don’t know why because my dad built the house but I can confirm that the area is definitly haunted. At least my neighborhood was.

the reference in 1408 could also be referring to the st. cloud in Florida. Who knows, there’s more than just the two st. cloud’s in the US.

Easy Buddy. If you’re going to be so critical of spelling errors on a freakin’ blog, check your spacing after punctuation and you may want take back 15-20 of those exclamations. One is enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK

Oh, and not to get too critical but you used the wrong form of the word (than/then). See if you can figure out which is the right form. Or maybe you should ask your daughter?

I’ve been to the Skatin’ Place many, many times and I’ve never had anything strange happen to me nor have I heard about anything strange happening to other people. The only weird thing that ever happened is when I was in the eighth grade and one of my friends said an elderly man tried to follow her into the bathroom.

There were two other roller rinks before Skatin’ Place came to be! One was in waite park the other in sartell. I have not heard of any ghost stories about skatin place and i am in my 40’s. Waite park is known for it’s swampy areas!! I would say the reference in the movie was made up

I have lived in st cloud all my life, I am native american and I can sense a lot of spirits. I never knew about this story and i used to hang around there a lot when i was younger, almost every day id go skating around. I’ve always had weird feelings about the place, The drinking fountains are always running, i don’t know if that relates to it, but the people have tried to fix it, but it stays the same. Now that i hear about this I believe its very true, I once had to go to the bathroom, I opened the stall and there was a boy without rollerblades on, I said sorry and closed it fast. I went to the next stall and i looked under to see if her was there, after I was done I looked back in and no one was there. While washing my hands I saw an old man in old clothes walking behind me, I thought it was a guy that works there, I looked and he wasn’t there. I haven’t been there in years but I’m definantly gunna re-visit it soon.

I’ve gone to the skatin’ place many, many, many times. I’ve never had anything happen to me, but I’ve asked some people that worked there about the hauntings one time, and they told me about the ghost playing ghost busters on the DJ, and lights flashing on and off, and something about the girls bathroom stall ( i can’t quite remember, it was a year ago)

I too am from St. Cloud, MN. I lived right down the road from the skatin’ place, and used to go there ALL the time, loved roller skating. NEVER once have I heard this story. I too was born in 1972 in St. Cloud, MN.
I am also very interested in what the guy mentioned in the 1408 movie. Now that story, I did think I recalled hearing something about, but not sure.
I definitly never did hear the skatin’place story though.
I also heard stories about the municipal pool being haunted growing up, but also went there all the time and never experienced anything, except one time a kid got hit by a car crossing the street from there going towards the Tech Highschool football field, when I was there. That happened like 28 years ago or so.

Let me help, in the movie 1408 he reffered to St.Cloud, MN not anywhere else however he was referring to a civil war widow who threw her baby down a well, I have been trying to figure out where and if it’s true through archives in St.Cloud.
I grew up in St.Cloud like most of who responded, and have also been to the Skating Place and back in the day thats what it was called, and yes it was built in a swampy area, everyone is entitled to what they want to believe if you aren’t curious or thought something why did you comment after watching the movie? This story is posted in more place than this and I think it’s cool to have been in a place thats been noted to being haunted and many strange things have happened there while I was there skating and the dance thing they had Fri and Sat nights as I won many dance competitions there so it ain’t bs! To get things straight!

I lived in St. Cloud from age 3-8, moving to AZ in 1985. I moved back to St.Cloud for college in 1999. I remember both times hearing about the Skatin Place being haunted, but I was only there once when I was a kid. I didn’t see anything but the night I was there, everyone started panicing. Some girl said she saw a ghost, and then there was a big bang. Never knew what it was but alot of kids flew out of there-some with their skates still on.
I also recall hearing about St.Cloud State being haunted-Shoemaker Hall? I was there in 2000 and we heard alot of sounds. We all heard someone scream and just thought it was someone down the hall. Found out later about the lady that died there. I think there are 3 dorms that are haunted though. and there was (when I was there) a hall that even the professors thought was haunted. It was deemed uninhabitable but as of 2003 they hadn’t torn it down yet.

As a St. Cloud Resident for 20 years I have heard most of these stories. I’ve never been to Shoemaker Hall, but I have a few older friends that won’t go there for any reason. They won’t tell me why. Lol, could be interesting.

I live in St. Cloud, and I’ve been to the Skatin’ Place numerous times, but nothing’s ever happened. I always thought the Laser Tag was kind of creepy though.
