Real Haunted House

Haunted Skating Rink

St. Cloud, Minnesota

Before this skating rink was built in the 1970′s in a swamp, locals begged for it not to be built, as the area had sentimental value. The builder dismissed their claims and built anyway. Later, it was learned that in the early 1900′s, a young boy, Gilbert, lived in the area. Despite his mother’s warnings not to venture too close to the swamp, Gilbert was found by his father one day lying face down in the water. It is supposed that Gilbert’s ghost is responsible for many hauntings which include tampering with DJ equipment and turning on and off water faucets and lights.

I had heard of a story that the skating place could be haunted yrs ago. I sorta belive it. I can sense spirts from time to time. The hand full of times that I went for parties and what not I always got the feeling that I shouldn’t be there. Like there was someone there that no one could see. There were several times that I would seen dark shadow at the back of the place, by the dj equipment.

My Mom use to own a old farm house close to St. Cloud in a town called Clearwater. A family was murdered there and she believed it was haunted. Alot of strange things happened while she lived there. In a photo taken the day she moved in,there were 2 men standing behind the children she had no idea who the men were!!! She never saw them until the photo was developed. Another time, it was a winter evening and it was snowing, she and a friend were watching TV in the living room and heard a car drive up the driveway someone get out shut the door and walk up the stairs and nock on the door. When she opened the door noone was there and no car in the drive way!!! shortly after she sold the house it burned down. The murder of the family was resently featured on Cold Case on A & E.

I’m new to the town, but i do hear things about how there’s an old kitchen in the basement of Shoemaker Hall that’s haunted.

Add me to the list of former St. Cloud residents who used to frequent the Skatin’ Place, who’ve never heard this story until finding it here. I’m old enough that I remember the opening of the Skatin’ Place. I went there the first time within the first week. The only thing scary about that place was the a**hole who sold tickets at the door. I was not a great skater, but loved the cool, state-of-the-art games they had, like airhockey and Asteroids.

I used to frequent the Skatin’ Place for many years and yes, this story has been around for quite a long time. The owners of the rink prior to John and Sue owning it apparently had two pictures of the boy. One with him standing on the roof of the building and one of him skating. If you are from the area and have spent a good deal of time there you would have heard this story.

The place definitely has a strange feel to it, but this place is real run down and the sound equipment sucks and is out dated.

If this ghost is Gilbert, next time I go there I’ll tell him he’s stupid and should have listened. Kids can be so stupid.

This website speaks of leaving correct grammar, capitalization, and punctuation, and yet no one knows how to even put a sentence together. It
stumps me how, united States has higher education, but yet people don’t even know our English language. And by the way, “ghosts do inhabit our planet”. Seeing, feeling, hearing is believing. So get your skeptic heads out of your !#*!#**!

I worked at the Skatin’ Place during the 1980′s while in high school and college. I have first hand experience with the Skatin’ Place Ghost. One day arriving to do some after-hours cleaning, I discovered the water running in the women’s restroom. Having been the MOD on duty the previous evening who closed and in particular, the individual who cleaned the restrooms, I know the water was turned off. No one had been in the building since I left. I shut the water off feeling a bit uneasy but determined to do what I was there to do. To try and soothe my nerves, I stuck an album on one of the turntables in the DJ booth and then began vacuuming. Ten or so minutes later, something with the music seemed odd so I turned the vacuum off and discovered the album skipping. Granted, this was probably unrelated to the ghost, but already on edge from the water incident, I was greatly spooked. I left a note for my boss in the office telling her to call me when she got in and stated that I would return when she arrived but that I would never again work in the building alone.
