Hell’s Gate
The bridge has earned this name because it is said if one stops on the bridge and turns around, the road behind him looks like the fiery gates of Hell. Many years ago, a young couple lost their lives on this bridge. On a dark night, if one stops on the bridge and turns off all the lights, a member of the couple will get into the vehicle, leaving a wet spot on the seat.
Where is this place located? I heard of it a long time ago & would like to take my younger cousins.

As far as looking like Hell’s gates this was true, however construction in the area has cut down the main tree that gave the effect.

***** gate is now closed due to construction so you cant get to it from any roads that i know of. Its on the other side of the interstate from cracker barrel and lonestar located on the road near the old davidson plantation house.

I know exactly where this place is. I live like 5 minutes from this place. The plantation always used to decorate for christmas and it was legendary for the decorations but they stopped ever since the old woman died. It is really scary when there are no lights on and you drive up in there. I don’t know about the bridge that is in front of it but i know that there are some weird things that go on at the house.

Hell’s Gate - OMG- The Devil actually grabbed us by the hair and took us straight to Hell ! Trust me it was not worth it ! We had to fight the devil to get out before the gate shut ! When we actually got out not only did we look behind us and see it but it followed us all the way home ! We called the police but he just hung up on us ! Finally, somone else pulled up at Hell’s gate , so the devil left us to get them ! We are so thankful that the devil got those other people!

I’ve been close to it. We went to a place on Green Mountain Hwy that was supposed to be haunted. What’s weird is one story about Hell’s Gates that I heard later actually happened to us. A truck came while we were walking back to the road, went passed where we walked in several times, and when we got to the trucks to leave, it vanished. I was telling a friend about it when I got home, and she told me the story about that, and I got back in my car and locked the doors. And I guess I should add that I was in my own driveway, thats how bad it scared me.

This is the story of a little kid and his bird.
This might sound cheesy to yall but i promise that this is
a true story…when i was just 9 years old i lived in a small
town.. hucksin county…no one has ever heard of it im sure…
anyhow…becuase my town was so small everything was real
close so i was able to ride my bike everywhere. i was
comming back from the vet one day with my bird
(super doidley…hey i was young) when i hit a speed bump
too fast and the bird cage fell off my handle bar… i went to
grab it but i was too late and a car hit my bird. Darn clear
smashed the whole cage! Didn’t turn round neither!
My bird, my bestfriend untill then was dead… i was so upset
i left my bike and carried his dead body all the way home
running and crying!…well about 2 months later my super
Doidley became “supernatural doidley”…all night all i heard
was shakeing in my closet and squacking! tweet tweet SQUWAK!
I ran down to my mama and cryed each night and the night
it was the worst out my window under my bed and in my
closet again my mama let me sleep with her… when i woke
up my mama tryed to smuther me with a pillow!! no lie!
when my daddy stopped her i swear i saw my bird in her eyes!
it was like revenge or something!…never been so scared in
my life!…i now live with my daddys mama…and i still hear
tweet……..tweet……SQUWAK!! everytime i go to visit
my mama…she’s never been the same.

You don’t need roads to get to Hell’s Gate, why don’t you just walk there, unless you’re afraid your going to get chased down the hill by a ghost car. I have been to Hell’s Gate and I think it’s pretty cool, I even took pictures and there’s a weird blurr in every single one, one looks like the grim reaper, and all the other ones look like the jersey devil. Either it’s my camera or something weird is out to get me.

There is a catch to the story, if you go there with Chuck Norris, the gates will show up, than freeze. The devil will come out, but Chuck Norris will only roundhouse kick him in the face. If you dont run, Chuck Norris will get you next. ; )

I just want to say i think its interesting to read some of these things. I live in a small town in Florida, where nothing like this usually happens. although when i was a kid there was an old house in my hometown that me and my friends swore was haunted. we would walk by there everynite and see what appeared to us then to be candle light in the windows. we were so scared we would take off running. When i was older we stopped by one day and there was an older couple in the house and they were repairing it, They let me come inside and i looked around, when i told them about my childhood fears, they laughed. I felt crazy but its still something i will never forget. Just wanted to say this to anyone who is interested. Sometimes things are’nt what they seem to be. Take care to all who read this.

I recently moved to Arizona, and while I was back home in Oklahoma during the holidays some friends had asked if I have been to ***** Gate. Well, I’ve never even heard of it then, and I sure as hell didn’t know where to find it. Once I was back in AZ I began researching the myth and its location. I must admit, this site and your postings have educated me the most. Thanks to all of you I know the location, and I have learned to take Chuck Norris inside a bird cage and toss him off my bycicle once I’ve stopped on a bridge while fleeing from a ghost car that’s coming down the mountain. Just one last question! When I stop on the bridge to look back at ***** Gate, do I look over my left or right shoulder? Thanks for all the postings, hope all is fine! The road the bridge is on is called Boiling Springs Rd. I have been over, around, and under that bridge many times. My grandmother was agood friend of Mrs Davis and we visited often. I played on her property many times,I almost never had a problem. The bridge is creepy (I used to take my daughter there as my mother did me), but thats not the worst part. The buildings on the side of the road has something in them. When I was about 8 or 9, we (my g-mother and I) went to see Mrs Davis. I was playing out side over by the buildings. I felt strange and looked up towards the opening of one of the buildings. What I saw nearly brings me to tears even now (I’m 30 years old!). I saw a man in a blue suit standing there but he had a bulldogs head. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me back to the house crying for my g-mother. I told her what I had seen in front of Mrs Davis. They didn’t seem surprised, and Mrs Davis told me not to worry about it, that if I “let him alone he would let me alone”. I had nightmares for over a year. And I never played near those buildings again. When driving by though I always looked at the opening to see if he was there. I have not seen it again. I could tell ya’ll stories of those hills…..there are many “things” over there.

I grew up in Oxford and have been over this bridge many, many late nights. One night I was driving, a friend was next to me and two other friends were in the back seat. It was raining like crazy and honestly anytime you drove over that bridge (day or night) it was scary cause it was so old and rickety…at night it was super scary because the creek would always have tons of fog which would just elevate the fear level…but that night…with the rain pounding down, as I drove over the bridge I got a serious case of goosebumps and I looked up into the rear-view mirror and I swear I saw a third *person* in the backseat between my friends. It was a male, obviously dead and in a serious state of decay - and yes he was soaking wet - I screamed, gunned the engine and proceeded to freak out. I never drove over that bridge again, day or night for any reason whatsoever.
And btw - for those of you in or around Oxford - Cheaha has a ton of ghosts, (if you go on the trail to Bald Rock at night with no lights, you will often find a Native American companion to *guide* your way..) also there used to be an old bakery in North Anniston at the north end of Noble Street (almost to the cemetary) where a man got in an argument with his son, shot him and then turned the gun on himself - you can still see him from the second floor window watching for his son to come home, and lastly - Cold Water Creek has two very young and confused ghosts..in 1983 4 teenagers were out four-wheel driving in early winter and their Jeep got stuck in some muddy water…two of them left to get help and left the jeep running so the other two could stay warm, when they got back to the jeep the two boys in the back had died from carbon monoxide poison…my belief is that they don’t know they are dead and remain there waiting for their friends to come back…

hell’s gate… bull it is just a bridge that is now closed down i have spent several nights with my friends on it waiting for something to happen, however if you want to find out for your self… you have to be in oxford and there is a house that is always decored for chirstmas, well until the lady died the other year, you go down the new by-pass till you get to the oxford exchange right across the street there is an old old road with the only thing you can see is a feild a big house and maybe some old chicken house things, you go down past the house, around the curve and there you go watch out for bunnies and deer though, you can’t park on the bridge now, but you can park beside and walk up!

I’ve lived and grew up in Oxford, when I had just turned sixteen, I had my first car accident on Boiling Springs RD, where the bridge is located, right after crossing over the bridge. I’ve always heard stories of that place when I was younger but that night, I thought I saw someone in the road, and hit an embankment on the other end of a sharp curve, and crawling out of my truck all I could think about was getting away from that area. There are lots of places like that in Calhoun County, there’s the bridge in Dearmanville, the old cobblestone mental institution in Anniston, the factory in Jacksonville, lots and lots of the plantation homes all over the county. I love Alabama!!!!!

It’s a load of bs, the bridge is not haunted. The plantation house isn’t haunted. The lady that live in that house died, and the only reason it was decorated for the Christmas holidays was because the city did it for her. Her husband used to do it, but he died and she couldn’t do it, that’s why the city did it for her. There’s nothing scary about the bridge, unless you’ve got another car waiting on the other side not paying attention to you coming over it and you have to back up.

Well that’s not the complete truth. I’ve lived in Oxford 37 years and the bridge is not haunted. Went over it more times than I could count and at all hours.—-Ms. Davis was not “allowed” to decorate her house for Christmas when her husband lived. I’ve known Ms. Davis for a long time and my sister-in-law helped decorate the inside of her house for her. Hired help and friends did the outside. The city didn’t do squat. When Mr. Davis died she added slowly to her house each Christmas, because it was a joy to her and she could. Her husband was an awful man.

well i went that so called ***** gate and turned me lights off. and nothing happened so i thought i werent true then i looked in the back seat and saw a wet spot and thought gosh, this thing really works then when i get to the house i was bout to pick my brother up out of the back seat, the reason for this is that he has palsy and cant move very well, and noticed he had a wet spot on the front of his pants he moved over in the seat in order not to sit in a puddle and that is what got my seat wet. The ***** gates in hunstville are not there. People are full of sh** I`ve looked up and down Green Mountian and found nothing. The closest thing I`ve found was and old set of small gates so I stoped and whent behind them and there is no mansion. So the story of the suposed gate is not real. The only way I would belive there real is if someone gave me directions to were there are so i can see this suposed mansion with my own eyes. I live in Anniston,AL just outside of Oxford. And I know where Boiling Springs Rd. is so where is the bridge and house at on this road? Or do you turn off Boiling Spings Rd., if so onto what road. I have lived here all my life and I just want to go check it out.The house and see if the buildings r there that someone said they played near the buildings/ saw a man with/dogs head etc. I love old abandoned houses. One day my husband was probably about 15 or 16 he was living with his grandmother…well he was in his bedroom all alone, and I guess the timing was right because he began to touch himself where he pees…you know what he was doing…well, then his grandmother knocks on the door just as he was finishing, you know one of those knock open moves people do…they knock as they open the door…well, he finished and didn’t know what to do so he ate his own juices!! Hell’s gate is on green mtn. go pass east grissom high school 2or3 mile look for green mtn. road go all the to the top of the mtn. The road will fork off go right. (there is a sign about a nature park ) the gate is one the right half way down the mtn. be cafeful the road has alot of curves

hii i’m marvic i’m not from USA i’m from Malta europe frist of all sory from my english i’m not that good. well may i say i beleave in these storyss it’s not the first time that i sow gosts well it’s in the family even my mum my older sister and my gradmother see or hear them. the last one that i saw was a women in a window. here in malta we have a small city called IMDINA it the most oldest city in malta it was biuld since the 14 century (you can imagine) well it was an old rich lady ( i understand it from her cloths) in one window from 25 maybe in one of most biggest houese that you can find in there. it wasn’t that scury i’m used to them well even my house was hunthed till the that day we know wath wanted from use and we did’t see him anymore only some times i hear some steps or things fall down from nothing. one last thing if you smile to them thay smile you back.

The directions to Hell’s Gate by Joceeghost are directions to Green Mountain in Huntsville. Green Mountain is easy to find if you can find Juniper Road. I grew up that way and we used to go up there. Strange Klan meetings and such are the danger up there.
Hell’s Gate is the Davis mansion, closer to Oxford, near Boiling Springs Road. I don’t know how to find it. Everybody needs to download Google Earth.

All the hype about Hell’s Gates on Green Mountain near Huntsville is strictly a myth. That property is simply vacant land presently surrounded by other properties that are occupied, and the residents are really tired of trespassers coming there. Not long ago trespassers started a fire in the hunting cabin on a property adjoining that property and it burned to the ground. If firefighters had not shown up, a colossal wildfire would have threatened surrounding houses. The iron gates (not so tall at all) are broken down (by trespassers) and many trees had to be cut to contain the fire. There are no ghosts, no mansion, not even a house on the property, and nearby residents usually know when trespassers are poking around up there. There are bluffs and poisonous snakes in abundance on and near the property, and if an accident or a bite occurred, it would be difficult to get one out for help. Law enforcement officers are well aware of any activity going on because they are immediately informed when residents are aware of it.

It is located right off of I-20 near the new Home Depot and Old Navy shopping plaza. It is behind the big house across the street from that plaza. It is a public bridge and not on private property. The only truth to this story is that it looks like the gates of hell. I have taking people to that bridge since 1990; scaring the **** out of them! Good luck if you visit and have a great time.

I still haven’t found this Hell’s Gates. Me and a couple of my friends went up too 7 gates of hell late last night. We walked down the trail for a bit but however my cousin had called me today saying that about a month and half ago some people had got lost up there and freaked out. So they decided to catch the M Fer on fire. So the 7 gates don’t exist anymore. If any of you guys happen to have the directions too Hell’s Gates. Please tell me how to get they. I went 3 nights ago, it is a freaky place to hang out though. Nothing happened to any of the 5 seats but we did hit 60 degree cold spots in 75 degree weather near and on the bridge. The person who did the graffiti on the road is very talented and did a great job. That is weird because I am from Birmingham, Alabama and they claim there is a bayview bridge (by where I live) that you go to the end of it and turn around and you are suppose to see the ghost of a woman looking for her child (her and child went off bridge in car and died) and when you go back across the bridge there is suppose to be a wet spot in your backseat where SUPPOSEDLY she rode in the car with you back across….
This is why I dont believe in Ghost is because every ghost stories seems to have the same plot.

Wow I went there last night, with about 8 of my friends, We all got so scared, we didnt even make it down the trail to the old mansion. 6 of us went back to the car and locked all the doors. The other 2 kept going, and got so lost and scared I actually saw 2 17 year old boys almost in tears.
We are going to go back more prepared and with more time.
The rocks with all the graphiti and the old tractor were enough to scare me, haha.

I have crossed this bridge many times, it is located rigt off I-20, at the Oxford Exchange exit, just a little ways past there on the right is the road you used to turn on, but I think construction has blocked that road, now. I have always felt that it was just plain out scary at night. I have also heard that if you stop, right before you get on the bridge, at midnight, on Halloween night, you will see a school bus full of kids start across it, and then the bus plunges over the side of the bridge, and you can hear the kids screaming, as it does so.i have never witnessed this but i had a friend that says they did.

It’s great to see there are still places in this world that don’t have cookie-cutter neighborhoods, home depots, buger kings, targets and applebee’s choking the culture and identity out them. That is exactly why “small town florida” didn’t have similar stories growing up….too busy eating at Macaroni Grill and shopping at the newest Costco.

Hell’s Gate no longer exist they tore it down ,, i went there when i was a teenager and never had anything happen ,i’ve lived in alabama all my life ,,, it was off where they put the oxford exchange an old iron bridge you use to be able to turn off a rd the was to the right when you were getting off the interstate coming from oxford and take a short cut to friendship from there and go past an old 2 story plantation house ,,but i guess for reasons unknown they decided to tear it down because it was abut to fall in …

the bridge has not been torn down,i was there april 24,08.the bridge has been blocked off but you can walk across it.didn’t see anything that would lead me to think it was haunted.the old house is beautifull,but it and the land are in the middle of a gigantic court fight.it seems the mean old mr. davis had another family in florida that was found out about when he died.after mrs. davis died the other family tied the whole estate up in court,thats wher it stands now…

Been fishing in the creek under the bridge several times recently with my boys. And I used to go there as a teenager… it was pretty scary at night as a teenager, but doesn’t seem to produce the same affect as an adult. Just local lore i guess. It is blocked off now. You can still drive up to it but you have to park your car and walk if you want to be on the bridge. Although I would suggest it… it’s old and if you were to have an accident, there is definately NO ONE around to help.
