Real Haunted House

Hell’s Gate

Oxford, Alabama

The bridge has earned this name because it is said if one stops on the bridge and turns around, the road behind him looks like the fiery gates of Hell. Many years ago, a young couple lost their lives on this bridge. On a dark night, if one stops on the bridge and turns off all the lights, a member of the couple will get into the vehicle, leaving a wet spot on the seat.

Ok to anyone who is still wondering where hells gate is…. I live a couple blocks away, been there for 24 years. The bridge is on the old boiling springs rd, yes the one that is now closed due to the construction of the new bypass (Leon Smith pkwy) and the new construction of public’s. The road behind the public’s construction is actually one side of the old boiling springs road. The other is under the one of the bridges that cross choccolocco creek. I went out there on a four Wheeler a couple weeks ago, the bridge is closed with two concrete pillars on each side, making it impossible to get a vehicle on it. The effect of Hells Gate has not worked since they clear cut the side of the road back in the 90s. Hope this helps…
