Hell’s Gate
The bridge has earned this name because it is said if one stops on the bridge and turns around, the road behind him looks like the fiery gates of Hell. Many years ago, a young couple lost their lives on this bridge. On a dark night, if one stops on the bridge and turns off all the lights, a member of the couple will get into the vehicle, leaving a wet spot on the seat.

I have lived in Oxford for over 20 years. I have driven and been on that bridge all hours of the day and night. Nothing ever happens. It is creepy looking, but is very old. You can’t get to it now because of the Oxford Exchange. When they built the new bypass they tore up the roads used to get to it. If you have been on I-20, you have driven past it and didn’t realize it. It is through the woods on your right going to Atlanta from Birmingham.

Ive grown up with the legend of hell’s gate. I visted it a few times as a teen….we drank a few beers, dangled our feet over the side….you can see fog in an area and the trees make it “look” like a “gate” but….its maily due to the spray from the water under the bridge….depending on how much water is there, how fast its moving will make your results better.
Our youth pastor at church had an annual hay ride over the bridge for years. We never found anything that couldnt be explained….and Ive got TONS of pictures if i can round them up…Im 33 and its been a long time.
I can validate the directions given are correct…..and the little old lady that used to have the christmas lights did pass on a few years back. The place has character…as for “true” activity? I would say no.

hey this is Destin i just wanted 2 say that hells gate is the sh** ive been there and the ghost car chased me and some buddies of mine and when we got back in the car our car acted like it wasnt going 2 crank and my other buddy asked why did we smell like fire and we replied the gates were just a little too close… there has been reports of some trying to practice witch craft on the other side of the bridge. there WAS a painted pentagram over there on the road. and if you look closely there is a little girl in the water she wants you to play ball with her.

OMG we went to Hells Gate and we got out of the car. Then we were pulled inside the gate and stripped by cloked people. They sodomized us and then shrank our penisis! Now I am in the cult with them as their *****!!! LOL

Ok heres the true story of this so called haunted place. I used to visit this “old lady” when i was a kid. She was a beautiful old lady and she was the nicest person ever. I used to help put up christmas lights. The bridge near her house is the crazy story. The bridge is where a girl was killed and put in a garbage bag and thrown over the rails. She was found down the stream in Chocollocco River, that is how the hells gates came about. It isnt haunted and thats bullshit, I used to play there as a kid and i always loved going over that old bridge. Save the manor, dont tear it down!

Okay. I have been to a bridge in Oxford, but I do not know what it is called. The brige was closed and both ends, and in order to get to it the way I was taken, you had to use gravel roads that had been layed out, I’m assuming, for construction workers and such. The bridge was wooden with a metal frame. Once you go past the bridge, there is what seems to be an old barn maybe and a shed, and then a house. I want to know if the bridge I was on is hell’s gate, and if the house is abandoned. If anyone knows these answers, email them to me at s_taylor1415@yahoo.com and I will tell you what I experienced on the bridge if you would like to know.

how many of you saw the movie Candy Man and how many of you went to your bathroom mirror and said candy man candy man and stoped because you were afraid to say it that third time. I am a grown woman and could not say it because I do believe in ghosts.

sorry, but this is not a truely haunted spot, though it did look pretty creepy when you turned around on the bridge. Heard this story when i was a teenager and tried it, sorry nothing happened the numerous times i was there to do that, it became one of my favorite spots to hang out around when i was partying, there was a really wide spot on the side of the road next to the creek past the bridge. even got arrested there once.

Diamond, Indiana which is North of Brazil, Indiana.
These Directions Are Starting From Brazil, Indiana. It Is Way Worth Your Time If You Are In The Area. I Guess It Only Works For Some, But It Had My Boyfriends Cats Name On The Wall Its Scary Cause His Cats Name Is Cole And Its Not A Common Name Yet It Was The Only One In Sight We Also Got Tapping And It Sounded Like Walking In The Woods. We Got Scared After The Tapping Though Cause My Dad Said KKK Was Known To Go Their So Be Careful If You Do Go. It Apperently Only Works For Some, But Is Guarenteed To Scare You.Also We Turned On The Car Quick And No One Was Around And Theirs No Way They Could Have Ran As Quick As We Got Scared. We Didnt See The Tree But We Did See No Opening to The Tunnel. Honestly It Looked Like A Long Ledge Of Tan Like Stone To Me Like A Castle Wall I Dont No It Sounds Unreal But I Am Sure It Was Real Im A Little Scepticle About Cults But It Couldnt Have Been One That Night. Also I No Tons Of Them But Thats Only The First Tunnel I Am Now Looking For ALl 7 If Anyone Knows Where The Rest Are Let Me Know.Directions To The First Gate Below Scroll Kids Scroll……
Complete Directions:
North on Hwy. 59 out of Brazil, In. Turn West on County Road 1350. Keep going, there will be two or three stop signs, straight ahead until you reach Rock Run Rd. Turn onto it and follow the road and around a turn ahead there is the first of Hell’s Gates.

I can’t believe I’m reading about, and seeing pictures of, Hell’s Gates on the net after all this time. My friends and I used to ride out there once or twice a weekend in the early and mid 1990’s. We had heard most or all of the stories mentioned above and tried it, i.e. killed the lights and sat there waiting for ghosts, but nothing like that happened… EXCEPT once when we were all sitting there in the middle of the bridge, ignition off, all lights off, on a starless and moonless night and we (at least 3 of us) saw many little lights on, or in, the water. It looked like the water was reflecting rows of straight, parallel stars, but there WERE no stars visible that night and stars wouldn’t show up in parallel rows like that even if ther HAD been any. Plus, the lights weren’t moving at all, as they would have been if they were a reflection in the water. We could think of no explanation for those lights–it was an absolutely pitch-black night. It was cold out so there were no lightning bugs (fireflies). In retrospect, the only possible explanation I can think of under the circumstances is some sort of weird aquatic life–algae, perhaps–that emitted its own light.
I also went out there with a date one night in spring ‘93 and was, shall we say, “interrupted” by an Oxford cop who told us the cops had recently found a headless, dead female body in the water next to the bridge and that the person(s) who dumped it had parked exactly where we were parked. I suspect he was just trying to discourage us from being there, but he stated it as fact and it was creepy at the time.
It sucks that you can’t go over the bridge anymore and that those trees are no longer there–those trees that arched over the road were the spookiest and coolest part about that whole area. That reminds me: One other creepy thing happened out there back then–one night me and my buddy were driving along the road leading to the bridge (Boiling Springs Rd, I think) back when the trees were still there and, somewhere before the bridge, we came upon a vehicle parked on the side of the road with the passenger side facing straight toward my car. In the passenger seat was what appeared to be an elderly woman who was sort of slumped forward with her eyes staring hugely and blankly toward us; she didn’t look right–she looked sort of bluish-purplish-white and the look on her face was EXTREMELY creepy, as if she were dead or undead or something. In retrospect, someone was probably just driving their sick elderly relative around and had to pull over for a second–but it didn’t look or feel right at the time and we briefly considered reporting it, because that woman did NOT look OK. But we never heard anything about it in the papers and I eventually forgot about it until just now.
It sucks to think that I’ll never cross that bridge again…

HELP! PLEASE ANYONE… I HAVE A BLUE BUG (2000). IT HAS BEEN TO HELL’S GATE. NOTICE THE APOSTROPHE ON HELL’S; BECAUSE IT IS THE ONE AND ONLY GATE TO HELL. EVER SINCE THE CAR WAS THERE; STRANGE THINGS HAVE OCCURRED. MY LIGHTS HAVE FLASHED AND FLICKERED. THE CAR STALLS WHEN PASSING GRAVE YARDS. WORST OF ALL THERE WAS A DENT IN THE BOTTOM OF MY OIL PAN, WHERE THE DEVIL (SATAN) TRIED TO GRAB HOLD OF THE CAR…I RAN OVER THE *******. I DON’T WANT THE CAR ANYMORE. I CAN’T AFFORD TO GIVE IT AWAY; BUT I WILL SELL IT FOR $4000. UNLESS, SOMEONE CAN MAKE IT GO AWAY.
