Hemphill Road
This property was owned by Robert Hemp and it is said that he is buried beneath the front porch. Every person that has lived in the house has reported many strange noises and figures of a man in a top hat. One family said that while they always kept the heater on eighty, one room in the basement would be freezing cold. Another family kept a Bible open in the living room to a certain verse. Allegedly, each time they left home and returned, they would find the Bible on another verse–the verse which was read at Hemp’s funeral.

What is the closest town and what is the closest nespaper?
I am manly concerned about when it was a funeral home. The Hemphills last owned the home in 1931. That’s when it was transferred to an insurance company or something. It sounds like the “porch” was built after that at some point. We can look at the 1900, 1910 and 1920 and 1930 Census records and see what the various Hemphill owners did for a living. But maybe it was an owner before them, who built the home and was the funeral director.

I KNOW and work with one of the Koogler ladies that lived at this house! She said the kids one day tried knocking a hole in an upstairs closet wall with hammers so a man could get through. She asked them to draw the man for her. She said she made them do it separately if I remember correctly and they drew the same thing, a stick man with a top hat! She also said one of her children, a baby at the time, would hold its arms out and reach like it was begging something to pick it up, but there was nothing there. Crazy stuff like that. Said her dog would also get angry and would growl and snarl at the air as well. And she also told me her and one of her kids were working in the garden one day when the child pointed out a ghost in the attic window. She said “oh that’s just a cloud” and when she looked again moments later it was gone. The Kooglers were the family that experienced the stuff getting thrown around from the closet. She said this was the first violent act that was committed toward them, and didn’t occur until they were packing to move. In her frustration she then told them that these entities could NOT follow them to their new house. Fortunately for her they didn’t. I will try and have her email you guys so you can confirm it from her. Freaky stuff!

The two tombstones were there up until Mr. D. moved gosh thats probably been 30 years or so maybe longer. I saw MR. Hemphill when I was 16 and new group of people had moved in and I was baby sitting, Mr. D lived there for years and his children saw man in top hat, Mr. D saw him alot. He never was afraid he just went about his buisness as if the man in the top hat was not there. I never believed it till I saw him, I heard the footsteps everytime I spent the night but always thought it was the boys trying to scare me, but Mr. D. said no it was Mr. Hempill going to the basement. We knew the family before Mr. D. lived there too, mom said they would find things moved around, she doesnt recall them ever saying anything about man in top hat, but those days you didn’t talk about things like that your were crazy if you did. I know Tom Fetter owned the house for years and rented it, he passed away I think his son got the house and sold it, may be to the people who are there now. There from Waynesfield area. They might have some info that may help you.
