Real Haunted House

Holiday Inn

Flint, Michigan

Built on a cemetery that was thought to be abandoned, corpses have turned up around the building. The building is now thought to be haunted, by the deceased still beneath the foundation. One phenomenon that is noticed is inexplicable loss of power.

NOT a Holiday Inn anymore. It was a Holiday Inn express near the main Flint Post office downtown. You folks need to read up on your Flint history. Soon after Auto World and Water Street Pavalion were contructed, they built this Holiday Inn Express. During the course of the basement excavation, they found human remains. They were believed to be Native American. They were moved to a nearby cemetary and that was that, or so everyone thought.

Why do people have to be so mean and rude? People on this site are just writing what they believe. If you don’t like what they are saying don’t read it or go somewhere else!!!!

spike101 says:

That has to be the best comment so far Angel, if you are not interested in the paranormal side of life, then you shouldn’t even be commenting on this site. leave the people who do believe to enjoy the site!
Besides it make you a very shallow person if you all you can do is take the mick out of other people…how childish!! you wont be going to heaven then! there are many chat rooms to be bitchy!!

This is my first time here, I was looking for haunted houses/hayrides for Halloween. Kid stuff compared to all this. I’ve had a few things happen in the past, but I have tried to put it out of my mind. But it seems I am not the only one. Pretty neat to read others’ stories and experiences. And I must comment, Big Bill is absolutely hilarious!!!!!!! I especially enjoy a laugh at anothers expense!!

Talking of haunted hotels. I stayed in a haunted motel once in Kalkaska MI. Although this event was ten yrs ago, I can remember it like it was yesterday and a movie could’ve been made about the experience I had.

Things turning on/off by themselves at all hrs of the night. Voices, banging, the ghost of a lady for a few seconds at the foot of the other bed, articles taken out of bags, etc. etc..

If you guys want more details let me know… it was one of the most freaky, scary and unusual experiences in my life.

Hey …

A few ppl have posted requests regarding info about my experience.

Firstly, I was NOT at the Holiday INN in question, my family and I were at a motel in Kalkaska, on our way out to Traverse City.

This experience occured in the mid-90’s however, it was so profound that my memory of it remains very clear.

Unusual things happened in this particual motel room at such a rate that within our stay, they nearly occured one after the other. To this day, I do not know how I/we stayed the night.

– Things taken out of our bags.
– Items moved around the bathroom, within entering/leaving.
– Banging from the Bathroom.
– Lights going on/off by themselves, The shower turning on/off.
– A brief vision of a women, at the foot of the bed
– Voices of a women.
– And more …

Perhaps because it has a lot of history, Michigan seems like a creepy state in some ways. Northen Michigan has always seemed somewhat haunted to me, on the few times I have visited. My motel exerpience was beyond words in terms of haunted!

My Dad grew up off of Hill and Torrey rd in Mundy twp.
There is a abandoned cemetery on hill rd near Ketzlers flowers. When they straightend Hill road years ago they only moved some bodies, but not all of them. And some bodies are still under hill road. You can find out more info at the flint public liabrary. Look for old Hill road Cemetery.(my dad and his friends also found arrowheads in that area which could turn out to be something really old.)

chances are the Holiday Inn talked about no longer exsist (the orginial one is the same one Keith Moon from the Who drove his car into the pool on his 21st birthday)…however, that building is long gone and has been moved to the present location on Longway Blvd…if anyone is looking for anymore history of Flint, i suggest getting the book “Through the Years in Genesee, an Illustrated History” by Alice Lethbridge…its a bit dated as far as current events go, but is a good educational book about the very begining of Flint

So….I’ve lived in Burton/Davison my whole life…and I never heard of this. But, the Russelville Ballroom is haunted. It’s on Irish, just before the bmx track/richfield park, in Richfield township, Michigan. My cousin lives across the street from there, and one night we went over there, and seen a whole bunch of crazy stuff….like we seen to old “ghosts” dancing, and when we peered into the door, a plate was thrown by something that wasn’t there…you should put this on this site!!!

Ok why would you build a hotel on a cematary. That is very rude. Would you want to have died 30yr ago and then a person is building something over you. I think they should never have built the holiday inn over the cematary respect the dead. I think that if the inn is haunted they deservi it because of building it on a cematary. I hope the dead people scare people out of the inn and have there land back and rest in peace.

To everyone who feels they can better themselves by bringing down others:

Honestly, all you are doing is making yourself sound stupid and anal. Everyone has their own beliefs and they do not need the opinion of some jerk that feels like bitching about nothing. There is no point in calling people retarted because they believe in spirits or apparitions.

To everyone else:

I honestly believe in ghosts and apparitions. I myself and friends of mine have had our own experiences. You just need to be open to the idea, I mean, what do you honestly think happens to you after you die? Your spirit has to go somewhere and do something.

I worked in a building last Halloween season for a haunted house called Motor City Massacre, it’s in Roseville on 11 mile and Frazho, I wasn’t aware of the history of the building until I started actually working there, there have been well over 30 deaths in that building alone. And you can definately tell. It’s hard to breath in certain rooms, there are burn marks on the floor where a little girl got caught in a house fire and her body was never found, etc… and if you don’t believe me, check it out later this year.

But I’m done, I know this was a little long, but I felt I had to say something. And I already know that some of you are going to feel differently than me, so don’t bother with your negative comments.

Let me clear up a few things that may help a few people out. The hotel in question is now a hoiday inn express. When it first opened it was a Hampton Inn. It sits on the corner of Robert T. boulevard and I475. If you are traveling on I 475 you can see the hotel. It was built on the former site of the Flint city cemetry. This was a cemetry where they sent the bodies of poor people who’s families could not pay for a funeral. I hope this help thoses of you who are seriously interested in this hotel.

Matt is right on the location of the Holiday Inn Express, and it was built over an old cemetery, only the state was to move all the bodies poor or not, they only moved the head stones. I was still in junior high when they were building the hotel; they had to call a halt to the construction of the hotel when they found the bones. At first they thought it was Am. Indians, if it had been they would have abandoned all construction and marked it as “holy ground.” When the bones were discoved to be Anglo American they continued with the construction. Last year it was decoved that the hotel was not the only place to be a part of the cemetery; they dug up remains of other bones approx. 1/2 mile from this area. I am unsure if the house that set on the particular piece of land had been abandoned and tore down, or if the place was burned out then tore down. I also know that the hotel is haunted, it is not in every facet of the building though or it could be that some areas are more active than others. I know that one of my friends worked there at one time and when asked he would say that there were places he hated going into and if he did have to go where he did not want he made sure someone was with him. If he was asked questions about what happened there, he would clam up. If you go to the hotel, ask for the most active rooms or area, I am sure that they would accommodate you, since the slow with draw of GM the whole area is hurting for money, management will be more the willing to have their guest happy. My feelings on building over or relocation of any cemetery not just Native American, is pure disgust. That is the final resting place of a personĂ¢??s body, no matter if their dead and their sprit are no longer there visually to object. What it really comes down to is how much money is waved in front of the governments faces to get them to agree and over look common morals…..opps; I forgot I was speaking of politicians.

About the Russellville Ball room: that has been torn down last year. The building suffered several fires and the last one they decided not to repair the damage or it was to great of damage to fix; which was a great disappointment to me I loved the band that used to play there Grand Funk was the band, for those who have never heard of them Google them they made it big in the 1970’s and decided to stay here. The location is in Richfield Twp. on Irish Rd, just past Coldwater Rd., if memory serves me correct, the location was on the top of the hill (coming from Coldwater) on the right hand side. It is privet owned so I would research the ownership and ask permission before going.

MB says:

October 1, 2008, 10:15 pm

When I typed the innitial comment, i didn’t notice the statement from corbin. The site where they found the Am. Natives is approx. five miles away from where they built the hotel, the hotel is less then a 1/4 mile away from the cemetery is between Country Fresh Milk co. formally McDonald’s Dairy, and Flint Armory.
Another place to visit is Diane’s Pawn Shop on Dort Hwy, the owner does not like being there at night alone. He use to tell my husband about things that happened in the shop, (My husband was friends with him).
For all the haters out there, until you experiance a haunting then you will alway doubt it………then you may deny it still. My nephew doubted until he moved in with me and had the toilet flush while brushing his teeth. Then that night and every night sence he has had someone waking him up asking his name at first, then it must have learned his name because it started saying his name. Now he sleeps with his dog and the dog starts to growl at what ever it is. One night the dog even barked (he never barks unless someone who does not belong in the family is there). Also; If you do not believe in what people say why do you even visit these type of web sites????? That is kinda childish don’t you think? But then again maybe you were not taught better manners by your parents.

I would like to set a few comments straight if I might. First the Holiday Inn Keith Moon destroyed a room and drove his car into the pool and was banded forever was on Bristol Rd Currently the Days Inn across from the truck plant. The building was never moved to Robert T. Longway. The construction of the Hampton Inn did discover remains that No one knew where there. The Hampton Inn was sold and the new owner renamed it the Holiday Inn Express. The stories are legends and I know someone who has worked there over 12 years and No one has ever come to the front desk claiming to have seen or heard anything. As written here on 01/08/06 a Perry Stephenson says he stayed there. No record at the hotel that his story is true. They have records of every guest. Unexplained power outages happen all the time. But this hotel is on the same line as the Post Office across the street. When one goes down they both go. Housekeepers there never report and thing unusual of sounds or figures. No maintenance person ever noted to management about being afraid of going to some place at the hotel. But the staff invites you to come and see for yourself.

Another thing, My father said that he helped dig the place up and actually held the bones of dead. He and many people refuse to stay there because of it. I am going to have a few friends stay with me there to see what we can come up with. My father also told me that before it was a cemetary, it was infact an indian burial ground

I am currently working on a book about paranormal experiences with my co-author and editor, Susan Kronner. We are currently investigating the Avondale Cemetery that has been mentioned on this page and also the Holiday Inn Express. We are very interested in authentic stories or experiences that you are willing to share and possibly have included in our book. To the man whose father helped do the construction on the Holiday Inn Express Hotel, we would very much like to hear from you to help us with our research. For non-believers out there, we realize that 95 percent of what is posted on the Interet (pictures, videos, stories) is a hoax, which is one reason that we were compelled to write this book. Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you.
