Home Sweet Home

07.23.2005 | 9:53 pm | Minot, North Dakota, United States

Now an antique shop, this old four story building is haunted by two ghosts. The first ghost is that of a man who hanged himself in the attic. Now blocked off by a door, the attic constantly has a frigid draft. Also the candy in the room is moved from dusty jar to dusty jar; there are never any fingerprints, however. The other phantom is that of a man that drowned in the river behind the house. At 4:39 AM, the time of the man’s death, it is said that the accident may be witnessed again.

  18. I investigated this site on a couple of different occasions. Also, I was able to visit with the proprietor of the business. She told me that yes an old man drown in the river out back as he was senile and fell down the bank, but never ever have there been any ghostly sightings…no ghosts or ghostly activity. I opened the “locked closet” with her permission and there was no extreme difference in temperature. Also i staked out the parking lot and watched the river one evening to no avail.

  20. I had heard about this one once, and because of that, was skeptical to the veracity of the story. However, there is a ghost that haunts UND campus and another one that haunts the Altru Hostpital Staff elevator, both in Grand Forks. The one on UND campus lives in the tunnels under the dorms and in the skywalk. She has no legs, and wears a nightgown. Creepy stuff. The one in Altru just kind of moans…more of a spirit than a ghost.

  25. If you don’t believe anything in ND is haunted, just take a trip up to Tagus,ND on Halloween night. Charles Manson said that if he ever gets out of prison he is going there as it’s supposed to be the epicenter of demonic activity. There have been ritualistic sacrifices of animals, a man was propped on the train tracks and murdered, sightings of god knows what in the cemetary. Me and some buddies put 10 clips of ammo into something in there and it never died, just kept on going. Even during the day, you get a very strange feeling just driving thru the place. There is a staircase somewhere either in the town or in a pasture nearby that is said to keep going down and down. Just check it out.

As for Tagus, my friends and I took a trip there in the middle of the night. That was the scariest place I have ever been. There is an old church there and it has a light on inside but it was closed up and locked. We went into the cemetary as you just get the weirdest feelings in there. I just about s**t my pants!!!

And the strangest place was the storage room, where the hair on your neck would stand up, something was wrong there.

My sister was out with one of her friends North of the village in a field and she saw about twenty or thirty litlle shadow THINGS that were running around. She said it made her and her friend so terrified they didn’t want to move. After ahile they decided to start leaving,a good distance from where they were they could see those things climbing on the truck they had taken to get there. 51. I was just at Tagus North Dakota and drove by the few houses there. The house looked like no one was there and by the time we got to the cemetary we could see glows in the windows. Once we walked to the cemetary we heard some voices and what looked like strange movements comming from one of the grave stones. We then went back to the car and started it and headed back into town. When we started to go through the town again the glows went down from the houses. As we passed the church (what was the church just a brick thing now) there was faint images of people standing around in a circle. Not sure if it was people or not, it was pretty dark and pretty scary. We high tailed it out of there and won’t be going back.

  52. Yeah, Tagus is very haunted. I drove through there with 3 of my friends one nite, and no matter how much I tried to slow my car down from going around that curve…..It kept speeding up and speeding up. I swear to the Lord that is a very very haunted place.
When I finally got the car stopped right outside of Tagus, my friend Morgan swears that he saw the face of the devil coming at his window.
If you are into that sort of thing….scarings and such….Check it out!!!

As for the town or Tagus or Noonan, I had a friend who went thru Tagus and said that once they got over the rail road tracks, their car died andcouldn’t get it started. She said that every building was dark like no one lived there. It was believe to be a Satanic Cults hide out.

I am not sure about Home Sweet Home, but I have experienced things at the House Next Door, Charles and the little antique store on main street under the hair school. Paranormal activity is out there whether you believe or not.

  56. Hi there I have lived in Minot all my life. There is a lot of unexplainable things in this town. Now for Home Sweet Home I have been there several times. It is an errie place. When i was there the only candy was in a room right on the main floor. The attic had that door blocked off i looked through the crack and it was not a good feeling i had and there is rafters where a short person could have hung them self. As for Minot there is a lot of history with “satanic” people. The River of life assembely of God church was once a Masonic temple. A friend Cory Withers told me storys how when the masons moved out there was a lot of caskets and so forth, he claimed it was haunted but with the presence of a church there i highly doubt it. Now Then what about son of Sam? There was a murder on Highway 83 a few miles north of minot in the 1970’s it looked as a tank or some other large machine had ran a car over, rumor had it it was sos. Also what about the underground tunnels that are hidden under the town? Ive also heard of an air shaft under town and county mall that has tunnels that satanic people have rituials in. In oak park during the 70’s there was also alot of satanic rituals practiced. I have seen a tape of a “ghost” My friends parents redid there attic they claimed there was a ghost hanging from the rafters. Ive seen the tape talked to the family and even slept in that room. Nothing that out of the ordenary unless you are scared to begin with. So yes ive been to Tagus as well. With a Ojuia Board, there was a man that approaced us in a pickup told us to get lost and when he drove away the tires on the pickup were off the ground and he vanised. It seemed as it took forever to get out of there like a time warp so to speak. Now them i was also told there is an alter of human sacrafice there but i never saw it. So anyone knowing anything please e-mail me. opareo@yahoo.com

  57. I used to live in North Dakota many years ago and while I cannot say I have ever been to “Home Sweet Home” in Minot, I can attest to some odd experiences I had at the Burtness Theater at UND in Grand Forks. I was supposed to open the theater for a show and was given a set of keys and told to unlock the building around 7 or 8 pm. Upon entering the building, I had the most horrible feeling and felt as though I would be in mortal danger if I stayed inside. I quickly exited the theater and later told others of my experience. They told me the place was haunted and some had even witnessed paranormal activity there. I find it amusing that some don’t believe in these kinds of things. Obviously they have never experienced the unexplainable. At any rate, I would never enter that building alone again.

  58. I live within walking distance from Home Sweet Home here in Minot, ND. I’ve been in there numerous times and can say Yes; there is an eerie feeling on the upper level of the house. With the way that house was built, my thoughts were the person who designed and built it had to have been disturbed in some sort of emotional possibly mental way. There are many stairs in that house. And I’m not talking just a normal staircase with a lot of stairs; I’m talking stairs that go in all different directions from one room to the next. I found it to be uniquely fascinating but very unethical floor plan for a family to live in before it became an antique and craft store. It’s very beautiful to look at on the outside. There is a staircase leading to a round room on the third level of the house. I’d say it was just big enough for a baby room at one time but other than that not much use for the room. My mother use to sell her wood works there and she too felt strange every time she went into this house to check up on her inventory. I don’t know much about the history of the house, but I do know a rich railroad engineer built it back in 1899. But if you’re ever in town, it is a neat house to see.

  61. I lived in Minot, ND for 17 years before moving to a little town west of Minot and my mom and I love to go to Home Sweet Home and the attic isn’t locked. I recently had a baby and I can tell you my mom and I went to Home Sweet Home and checked out all the baby stuff in the attic. I love that place and I have never EVER heard of anything like that. Now as for Tagus, ND….I’ll let you know that is completely true! My senior year of High School 4 friends and I traveled to Tagus because we had heard all the hype about how it was haunted and how you hear dogs barking when you go inside the church and that when you open the door to go upstairs you hear a train but don’t see one. Well we went in the church and it was creepy feeling just being in there but we never did hear any dogs but when we did and I’m not lying because s*** like this freaks me out, we did hear a train go by and the guards were down and flashing and we didn’t see a train anywhere. It was probably the creepiest thing I have ever expeirenced and we quickly got together and went out the basement door and I personally shut the lights off and when we were driving away the switched on!! I’m not lying and I have never believed in that stuff but I was totally freaked out after that and I still get goosebumps thinking about it. 1 week after we had went there the church had burned down. I believe the stories about Tagus, ND.

Anyway, I don’t believe there are ghosts. I think they are demons who are mimicking the people they see in hell; trying to torment us because they hate us and have no hope. Jesus has ultimate power and if you want to have ultimate power over these supernatural terrorists, freedom from the fear, guilt, and shame that they seem to revel in and feed off of, then I encourage you to read about him in the Gospels.

Well, Listen to this…I’ve been born and raised in Minot, ND and I have been in Home Sweet Home before, it did seem a little spooky, even before I knew what had happened…narrow, winding staircases and stuff..but, nothing too bad..there is a temp change when you go upstairs…However, there is a house on Central Ave, that I lived in as a teenager, a boy (I wont say his name)also a teenager used to live there, was brutally stabbed to death, shortly after that happened out basement door would open and close all the time, with many witnesses, after awhile, we were like “Come on in and Sit down”.

  69. I live in Minot and would welcome the opportunity to see and experience some of the wierd things that people describe happening to them. I have been to Tagus (since the church burned) and stopped at the cemetary. nothing happened. my truck slowed down at the corner, didnt stop after the tracks, hell i even turned around and went back through. Drove up the hill going to the cemetary and looked around in the cemetary, once again nothing happened. But at any rate whether anything happens or not i still love seeing old towns. any yall around here want a hunting partner i am always looking for something like that to happen to me so i would not be such a skeptic.
