Real Haunted House

Home Sweet Home

Minot, North Dakota

Now an antique shop, this old four story building is haunted by two ghosts. The first ghost is that of a man who hanged himself in the attic. Now blocked off by a door, the attic constantly has a frigid draft. Also the candy in the room is moved from dusty jar to dusty jar; there are never any fingerprints, however. The other phantom is that of a man that drowned in the river behind the house. At 4:39 AM, the time of the man’s death, it is said that the accident may be witnessed again.

Wow, I’d say that this is a really creepy house!

The “Mike Myers” house no longer exists. It was north of Minot, west of 83 before you get to the base. Sadly, it was burned to the ground six or seven years ago.
The house looked creepy from the outside, but inside the house was where everything was a little crazy. Garbage lined the floors in every room. Whomever once lived there had been a little anal about every single thing they did. You could pick up a piece of garbage, let’s say a cereal box, and written on it would be the date it was purchased, where it was purchased, who purchased it, the date they ate it, what bowl they used, etc. Also many old tattered editions of the Minot Daily News were strewn about the rooms, most of which had headlines dealing with murders or tragedies of some kind.
The other thing that was REALLY creepy was the “diary” that they kept by writing on the walls. Again, every single part of their lives was detailed in full. Most of them were dated from the 1970′s and early 1980′s. In one spot in what must have been the living room, in letters bigger and bolder than any others, was written, “HANDS OFF THE LIVES OF OTHERS!” This may have been an act of vandalism after the house had become abandoned, but it fit nicely with the rest of the house.

Just a few side notes:

* In the 1950′s and 1960′s, the Berthold area (including Tagus) was a hotspot for UFO sightings.

* Charles Manson has never spoken about Tagus, North Dakota in any interview or any recorded capacity whatsoever.

* The abandoned facility in Dunseith was never a ‘mental asylum,’ but rather a tuberculosis sanitorium.

p.s. The notion that Home Sweet Home or the bar in Noonan are haunted seems ridiculous to me. Tagus is another story altogether.
