Inclined Plane Hiking Trail
During the early part of the twentieth century, this trail led to a mine. One day, the mine exploded, killing over one hundred miners. Many have reported seeing miners walking along the path. They disappear quickly, however.

I have also lived in Johnstown, PA all my life. I’m “Jacks” friend. His name is really Stephen. lol. So yeah. We went on 2 hikes down the wolfe trail, yesterday and the day before that. I heard about this trail on some website, and always wanted to check it out myself. I honestly don’t believe anything paranormal is on that trail, the incline plane, or the mine. The only thing that might set off some people was the chill air coming from the mine, which is just because most mines, caverns, and caves are always up to 40 degrees cooler. Although I felt like we were being followed coming back up the trail(we didn’t have any money to take the incline plane back up) But I’ll bet the only reason for that was because we were talking about horror movies and stalkers. haha. I do have to say the mine had something creepy about it though. I haven’t been in it, but I’ve heard it’s very boring. But truefully, I believe the only thing evil was all the trash thrown to the side of the trail. I’m not saying I don’t believe there could be something paranormal. With all the floods and tradgedies in the area, you’d think it would be ghost city. I guess it doesn’t matter because I just read in the TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT that the city is going to completely seal off the entrance of the mine so nobody can ever get in. I suggest that if anyone wants to really prove to themselves that the place is haunted or not, they should go soon. If anybody has any questions or experiences on that trail, the mine, or the incline plane, I’d be happy to hear them.

I’ve lived in Johnstown fpr the last 20 years and have hiked the trail numerous times. The stories I read here are close, but not quite correct. If you’re ever walking the trail and you hear a deep raspy voice, like someone with a serious case of asthma, look out. You stumbled on one of the ghosts that hang out on the trail. This one is a Sleestak, who were used heavily by the mining company back then. Because of their large eyes, they required minimal lighting. Although they still used gas lamps, far fewer were needed, saving the company money. Plus they liked living in th emines in addition to working there, so the company got more money out of them. So why are they ghosts? Well the big mine explosion killed them all. The true story of what happened: a little boy named Will Marshall found some crystals outside the mine. He started twositing them randomly. For some reason this caused all Sleestaks to simultaneously flatulate, and that was enough gas release to blow the mine. It, unfortunately killed the little boy also. So, if you’re lucky, you get to see the Sleestaks roaming the hillside in search of beano, and the little boy, Will, seeking Cha-ka. Make sure you call out his name. If you tell him you have crystals, he’ll come twist them for you.

My father grew up in Brownstown and he lived in a haunted house there around 1930. One of the ghosts our family reported seeing was a coal miner. The house was so haunted, and the ghosts so unfriendly, they moved within 60 days.

I have been reading the comments about the mining disaster in Johnstown. I have even read a few that say there is no mine in the area of the Inclined Plane. I was born and raised in Johnstown and I can assure you there is a closed up mine. The stone slab that covers the mine shaft can be spotted on the hillside opposite the Point Stadium. It was called the Rolling Mill Mine and there was an explosion there on July 10, 1902. Most of the miners were foreigners of Polish, Slovic and Croatian decent. I cannot say that I ever saw a ghost there, but there is something about that area that gave me the creeps when I lived in Johnstown and still does when I think about it. So, this message is to all who think there is no mine shaft in that mountainside. There is, check out the stone slab if you are ever in Johnstown, or look up Rolling Mill Mine. Happy Haunting!

Ok first off you people are a bunch of ball bags. Becky’s grave is a load of ****. Tribune democrat did a story on it and truth be told the place were people believe “Becky” is buried isnt where she is buried. Becky is buried in the big cemetery across from the old suzie q ice cream place. As far as that kid seeing the ghosts of a dog sled team… seriously ur a *** that didnt happen. and for that chick that says shes sensitive to the spirit world… no ur not and never will be grow up skank

I have been a resident of the Johnstown area all of my life, and I can tell you that there are some very haunted places around here. I have been a paranormal researcher and investigator on an amateur level (not a part of any famous ghost hunting group) for 14 years. I have my own small group of ghost hunters and am looking for those that really have a solid interest in seeking out paranormal activity. I would love to hear and swap stories of anything paranormally related in the area.

I have lived in the area for a long time and have heard my share of ghost stories. I have gone to most of the eerie places mentioned in the posts above and have been creeped out and even chilled to the spine in some cases.
There is one story that is little known in the area but my dad has been visiting it for years. He has done a ton of research on the matter and even visits the murder sites every anniverary. I have been to the sites of the murders (on the anniversary) and have seen lots of creepy pictures with orbs and mists that my dad has taken over the years.
What I am referring to is the double murder of Polly Paul and Cassie Munday back in 1865. The link I posted details the entire story, from the brutal murders to the hanging of the convicted.
The basic jist of the story is that two drifters came threw the small settlement near New Germany/Summerhill (close to where the South Fork Damn that crushed Jtown stood) and brutally murdered two women.
I havent personnally seen anything when I was there (except what was in the pictures) but I always feel uneasy while I am there (like someone is wathcing us – possibly the little girl or something else) and I am sure to be in my car and on my way home well before the sun starts to set.

I live in johnstown currently, i deffinately believe it is haunted. however, i have never personally encountered any paranormal activity. my friends and i (being as were only 13) live about 10 minutes via bike away from the top of the incline plane. we sometimes follow the wolfe trail down into the city of johnstown from westmont. infact, today we traveled there and checked out the mine again. there is deffinately a mine, the rolling hill mine. looking at the mine today sparked our intrests and checked out some sites on the internet. july tenth is the 107th anneversary of the tragedy of the explosion. my friends and i plan on teveling the trail on that day and documenting the journey. the mine gate has a very cold draft, probably not because of spirits, but because the mine is isolated and recieves little light. you can easil climb through the bars on the gate, i highly suggest NOT going in. walking back up the hill, or taking the inclined plane ($2.25 fare) you seem to have some very eeriy feelings… maybe its just the adrenaline or something, i dont know. but you seem to walk just a bit faster back up the hill. johnstown MAY be haunted, I”m not sure, but i do believe in paranormal activity… there have been reports of miners wearing mining clothes, and a small 10 year old boy named donald ghellnet. believe what you want to… s
