Regarding the comment by “noneedforname,” who claimed “rosehill [sp.] cemetary stories ARE true, especila [sp.] aroud [sp.]the old circle of trees and where the water fountian [sp.] used to sit…”: 1) Hey, learn how to spell or use Spell Check!; 2) I walked through Rose Hill Cemetery tonight and my friend and I did not see, hear or sense any ghosts, supernatural beings or paranormal activity whatsoever; and 3) I walked through the circle of trees by the location of the old fountain and I did not notice anything unusual or supernatural there; 4)I agree with “loco”’s comment about the allegedly haunted Underground Railroad station: “What a load of ****! Support your story by some documentation and some real facts!”

portico’s is on walnut a couple of blocks north of the square, it’ a yellowish victorian style house across the street from square donuts. if you walk up the alley behind sometimes you’ll see a kid’s face in the upstairs window.(do this when you know there is noone there working just so you know it’s not an employee.

I haven’t heard of this particular story, but I am curious who wrote that book on urban folklore Norma was reading? My grandpa was a professor at IU and the head of the folklore institute. He supposedly been sighted at least twice there that I know of since his death in 1981. I don’t live in Bloomington, so if someone has more information on this I would love to know.

I have never heard about the Underground Railroad story. However, many places around campus are said to be haunted. Where is the old Portico Restaurant? I would love to check it out. The Irish Lion is also said to be haunted. The story is that it was originally a brothel, and the upstairs was divided into the rooms. You can actually see how this would be if you go up there and look at how the wall is sectioned. Apparently, some of the ladies were hung out the windows in the alley, and they are said to haunt the place. Having been up there with only one or two people many times, I can vouch for the oftentimes odd ambiance, although I have never seen or heard anything specific. Could just be the power of suggestion.

Well, I have heard that the University’s Main Library is a little haunted. Mostly up in the “stacks” (i.e. the highest floors of the building). It IS very creepy up there b/c it’s so quiet, but I’ve only been up there during the daylight…haven’t mustered up the courage to go up there in the middle of the night. I’ve also heard that the building sinks a little bit each year, too. Don’t know where I heard it and have no proof to back it up either.

ive lived in bloomington for many years, ive never heard of any stories of IU being haunted, i do however know that at night before the union building closes, if your on the comons level (basment), and walk the stairs up to mezzinine level (lobby)(set of staird that lead to the brian room and the small balcony area that overlooks the mezzinine) it isnt hard to tell somethings goin on there. i dont get into paranormal stuff, im not even superstitious, but when you hear footsteps behind you and your in an area no one can hide behind anythign, then its kind of hard not to think so. and im sure that HAUNTED INDIANA didnt help matters anyway …. oh and rosehill cemetary stories ARE true, especila aroud the old circle of trees and where the water fountian used to sit, before they moved it to 3rd street park….

I also lived in Bloomington, while growing up, and then there dozens of storys going about, what gives ?

Ha Ha ! let me remind you of the typical lovers lane
murderer ( you know the fella that pops out with the hook ? ) anyways it’s the traditional story boyfriend
gets slaughtered and his girl friend runs to the Holiday inn by highway 37( my mother worked there for years ) if anybody would like more info let me know
