James A. Garfield acquired this home in 1876 to accommodate his large family. Named Lawnfield by reporters it was the site of the first successful front porch campaign which saw Garfield elected as 20th President of the United States in 1880. Following Garfield's assassination, the Memorial Library wing was added by Mrs. Garfield and her family - setting the precedent for presidential libraries.

Wow Hettie, I don't know how to read jibberish but if I understand correctly you think you have a haunting? I suggest contacting your local paranormal society to see if they can verify it for you and possibly help you with your problem.

This is my first time on this site and reading some of these comments here the jury is still out. Though its always interesting to read about a haunted house, I would like to see more history behind the discovery of paranormal phenomena. Simply receiving an email and throwing it up on your page shouldn't be enough. This is simply a suggestion not a criticism. I'm not sure what to expect from a website hosted by "The Dumb Network", though I hope that there is no correlation of the name to those operating the site.

Well just so I can say I made a topical post, I will share that I lived for 2 years in the Little Italy portion of Cleveland which was settled by those who built Lakewood Cemetary and the monument of President James Garfield located within it. Though the home I lived in was built around the turn of the century I do not believe it was haunted, even though the cemetary was little more than 40 yards from my home.
