Real Haunted House

Jerome Cemetery Dog

This cemetery is haunted by a phantom dog with eyes of glowing fire. If one walks around the cemetery after dark, he will be chased by the dog. The dog will continue chasing its prey until the person reaches his vehicle or exits the cemetery.

That cemetary is no joke! I do not even like to drive by it, i have been to it and there is something unnatural there, it is a very scary place that gives me bad vibes.

My group has been to this cemetery at least 6 times in the past 3 years and we have yet to see the dog with the glowing red eyes or his robed master. The worst thing that we have experienced is massive mosquito bites.

The dog and his robed master, you say?

Interesting…..can any of you tell me more
about this robed master?

Animal hauntings are very rare, you see,
and usually there is also a human ghost involved.
That, or the dog is a manifestation of a non-human
demonic entity.

The fiery red eyes would support that last theory.
And graveyards are known to attract paranormal activity,
and it appears that malignat entities relish in
the presence of grief, sorrow and decaying bodies.

As for running from that dog; that’s propably a good
idea, because especially agressively behaving entities can bring harm to a living person.
Especially if its an entity of demonic origin.

By the way, does anyone of you know wether this
graveyard has ever been guarded by dog or a man
with a dog? – that way, we could perhaps find
out the nature of this apperition.

maria says:

September 24, 2006, 3:02 am

why do ghosts of a man and dog have to haunt anyone near a graveyard?

Shangy says:

September 24, 2006, 4:32 pm

Maria – Like Dae said, they are of demonic origin. If this is true that is.

Demons and those of the devil like you to think the dead are alive now instead of the truth that the dead are asleep waiting for the return of Jesus Christ for the resurrection. They don’t want you to think about
Judgment Day. Besides, if people think people who die go straight to heaven, hell, or some limbo place then they are not believing the Word Of God and there is more chances of people committing suicide to be with
God sooner. After all, the devil and his host hate people and would prefer there were no people walking this earth. They want you to believe their lies instead of God’s truth.

tanya says:

September 24, 2006, 8:28 pm

I think this an interesting haunting if it true.
The fact that this might be a demonic haunting is alone of interest. The question is, are they just guarding the dead or trying to vanquish the living?
That is a good question to think about on this matter.

Dae Rolf says:

September 26, 2006, 5:22 pm

Well, Maria, that’s exactly what I’ve been asking myself.
If it would be a human haunting, then the only explanation would be that at some point in history, this graveyard has been guarded by a man with a dog.

But the sheer nature of this case doesn’t make that theory sound very plausible.

And thrust me, as soon as anything starts showing up with fiery red eyes, it is pretty sure that it is some demonic entity, something that can only be a creature from hell.

As for your interesting question, Tanya,
if there’s indeed some hellish/demonic activity involved here, then it is unlikely that they are at that cemetary to guard the dead.

Like I said before, for some reason these entities are attracted to the presence of grief, sorrow, wrath, fury, hatred, malice as well as decaying corpses and such.

And many of those things can be found at a graveyard…

The intentions of these demonic entities are always
hard to determine, save for the fact that they are
always out to cause harm in whatever way they can.

And if they are not actively haunting the living,
then it is hard to say what exactly they are up to.

It could be that they are just lying in wait.
If they are up to something, they can be very patient.

…come to think of it, it could also be that they
are not so much after haunting the living…

Out of all the cases that I have seen and studied so far, I actually came across a few cases in which there was an interaction between a demonic entity and a number of human ghosts.

In that particular case, the demonic entity somehow controlled the far less powerful human entities, and through a medium, the people involved found out that those human spirits wanted to be set free from that demon. (though I strongly disadvise ANYONE from attempting to contact spirits in a place that may be
demonically haunted!)

Setting free these human souls was eventually accomplished through an exorcism,
which had appearantly succeeded, since no demonic activity had taken place there ever since.

Yet the strange thing is, no matter how agressive or malignat they may be, they always are bound in some manner.

No matter how powerful a manifestation may be,
both human ghosts and especially demons appear to be
firmly bound by some unseen barrier or law of nature,
which would also explain why the apperition at the graveyard doesn’t actually leave that terrain.

…which reminds me: although I don’t remember exactly where, the Bible does mention that “..the fallen angels were sealed/bound in hell until the day of judgement.”

If that indeed is the case, as it could very well be,
then there are only some very few circumstances in which a demonic entity could make its way into our reality.

Most of those among you who have studied these phenomenon, will have heard of ‘portals’ or ‘gateways’ that allow spirit beings to come into the material world.

According to what I have discovered so far, these portals must be places where the barrier has for some reason be weakened. And even if an entity makes it through such a portal, it still is pretty much confined to the surroundings of that portal…

As far as I have seen, the only things that can create such a link between realities, is either human beings calling to spirit entities (summoning), and through the death of living humans…

Especially violent and otherwise troubled deaths seem to attract demonic presences… It also seems to be the case that evil deeds and intentions in general can attract the attention of demons, although it appears to take the death of a person or
somebody inviting them into this reality to actually enable them to cross the barrier.

..
But in the end, what this entity at the graveyard really want, is unclear to me. It may be lying in wait for living victims, it may just as well be focussed on the souls of the deceased at the graveyard. But like I said; demons love death and negative emotions, and there are plenty of those to go around on a graveyard…

For you people who dont think ghosts are real, your wrong. I lived most my life out side of Jerome and that place is truly hanted. Not only the cemetery but so is the brige. There is a dog that cases you through the cemetery with gloing red eyes. there use to be a saintesst church in Jerome and the christians killed them all. Becouse the saintensst’s use to have human sacrefices under neath the brige. so the christians killed them and burnt down the saintesst church. Where the church use to be is a perfect outline of trees.A few years ago there was some kids who went under the brige to call upon the ghosts and they were never seen again. i goto Jerome as much as possible. it is the biggest thrill i have ever had.

I had lived in Cottonwood which is ten miles from jerome, my whole life and the most I have heard about this hellhound is from my personal research. I don’t think that it is fake, but I do think that alot of what people are saying about it is. However, in terms of hauntings in the area where people throw coins on the main road by the spirit room there is a block room called “The Bank Vault” and behind the bank vault on the wall angling away to for the corner of the courtyard there is roughly a three foot gap and one night I spent in Jerome I walked past and was disturbed to see a man hanging from a rope with blood dripping from the side of his mouth as though he had been hit. I dont know what correlation with the time I witnessed this and what state of mind I was in at the time is but I know that it was there. The only thing that didn’t look as though the man was really hanging there was the fact that the scene appeared in black and white like an old movie.

I’ve heard this dog story several times. My friends and I lived in Tipton County when we were younger, which is just south of Howard county, where Jerome is (eastern Howard County in Indiana). We visited the town a few times. From what we had heard, the paranormal activity in this town’s general area goes beyond just the cemetery. We have all heard stories of past Occult/Witchcraft related activity within the woods outside of Jerome, which might support one posters theory of this dog being summoned. We’ve been to the said cemetery more than once. I’ll admit that I haven’t seen anything with my own eyes except one POSSIBLE clue to support the rumor, but there is certainly a very unsettling feeling about the place. The uneasy feelings could be caused by knowledge of the rumors, but I consider myself to be quite the skeptic and that keeps my mind clear of enchantment brought on by wild thoughts. Not to mention, I’ve been to other cemeteries after dark and did not experience this sinking sensation.

During one of my visits to the town, a few of my friends were entering the woods that border the outskirts of the cemetary because there a few stray headstones and they had decided to try and decipher the markings upon them using a lighter for illumination. After a few minutes, they came running, panting out some choice words all the while, and ordered everyone to get into their vehicles. I was walking in the vicinity of my truck with a couple of friends just chatting and didn’t question their demands. They sounded genuinely terrified. One of the spooked explorers was riding with me and as we drove away he was looking out the rearview mirror and screaming “Holy Sh*t!”. After I inquired what he was talking about he informed me he was seeing two glowing red eyes behind us. I looked in my rearview mirror and did indeed see two red dots next to eachother, but I have always written it off as the reflection of the brake lights on a headstone. My friends constantly tell me that none of the headstones were shiny or smooth enough to project a glare, but I haven’t been back since to confirm that claim. After we got back on the road he told me they had heard a growl and then the sound of something running toward them, which is why they fled back to the vehicles. This was the once incident I MAY have had concerning this dog rumor. One thing of note, there is a house right in front of this graveyard. The cemetery is virtually this house’s backyard. My wife was friends with one of the inhabitants of this house. The girl who lived there in childhood said she had never heard or seen a dog, but she AND her family had seen the vision of a little girl running towards the house. This was in the morning during daylight.

One thing I will say is that there are certain roads within the town that twist and turn and are surrounded by forest, which can be pretty creepy at night. It almost seems as if the roads are carrying you into the town rather than you driving on them. There is a very sharp curve in the road at some point that is indicated by a sign. At the time of our visit, someone had spraypainted the sign’s arrow to point in both directions, which is a very tasteless prank. We have also heard stories of deaths by automobile accident at this spot. This spot is supposedly heavily populated by spirits.

My friends repeatedly claimed to see things in between the trees as we drove along. My friends in the vehicle behind me claimed they all simultaneously saw something that resembled a man jumping from tree. They told me it looked to be jumping into the bed of my truck.

I have know idea if this town, the cemetery, or the area is haunted, but there continues to be story after story. As I said, I never actually saw anything aside from two “red dots” in my rearview mirror, but the feeling was there… and it was a disturbing one at that. I may go back again at some point and investigate those stones.

I have been to this cemetery a few months back we ended up going there during the day because we were on a ghost hunting trip and trying to visit quite a few places in one weekend.I must say of all the places that we have been this one was even spooky during the day.I have pictures of smoke going across the graves and it was a clear sunny day.I also have a picture of my boyfriend down by the creek behind it and when we looked at the picture afterwards there was this facelike creature above his head, there was also one set of graves that were in a circle of rocks that everytime he would go by it he would get goose bumps all over but as soon as he would walk away from them he was fine and we also took pictures of them and everytime we would they would be distorted but we took several of other ones before and after and they came out fine.So you tell me is it something there or just my imagination? I believe.

I think it is really funny to read all these post, I have lived in Greentown my whole life and attended Eastern. My friends and I have been checkin out haunted places for a few years now. Jerome cemetetery is nothing to be scared of. My friend Ryan lives in that huge house right next to it. His dog is the dog everyone says is the ” ghost dog” yes he is a large Rotweiler but that dog is the sweetest thing ever. He has another dog but it rarely goes out there. Ryan and some other boys used to go out there with his black cape on and close the gate on people and stuff like that. One halloween we all were out there and were runnin around messin with people. The only thing I can say that REALLY has happened that was scary, my friends Matt and Austin were towards the back and walking up and something grabbed Matt’s keys from his pocket and pulled on his shirt, and both of the guys heard a lil girl laugh.. But that was it…

Annaleesha is full of ****. I don’t know if I believe all this, but I read every single comment and it’s funny how she took what she read and tried to lie to make people believe this ****. If a her “friend’s” rotweiler was really chasing people, #1-no one would get away, rotweilers are way too fast and #2-it would look way too realistic to confuse it with a ghost and #3- someone would have done something about the dog by this point, police, animal control, etc., it would not be allowed to just chase people. Annalesha is just trying to get everyone who reads this to belive that she is right and that ghosts don’t exist.I’m not saying anyone on here is right or wrong about the ghost dog, I kinda believe it, I’d go myself to check it out if I wasn’t too scared, but I am, but Analesha is lying. Plain and Simple.

Levi,

You’ve confused Jerome Arizona with Jerome Indiana. As far as I can remember, Jerome’s graveyard dog isn’t demonic, he’s the ghost of a miner’s pet who pined himself to death when his owner died in a bar fight. He’s not vicious, just lonely. Poor dog doesn’t seem to understand what happened. He will approach people, and whine and paw at them, like a stressed or confused dog will. I just tell him what a good dog he is and pray that St. Francis will come collect him soon.

ashley says:

Have you never heard of a Black Dog? A Church Grim is one type of a Black Dog. They protect the spirits of the graveyard. People used to believe that the first person buried in a cemetary would have this job, so they buried an animal first to relieve a person from this duty. They only go after those who they think are a threat to the graveyard.

Megan says:

September 13, 2007, 12:01 am

Well everyone else tells stories and such… I dont really know how many of these I believe…. I Live in Kokomo. and I honestly LOVE gravyards and cemetaries! They are peacful places. I use to think they were bad when i was little and watching silly movies like Pet Cemetary. But after the death of my dad i find it almost comforting to be in a cemetary sometimes.

Anyway I dont have some really scary story or anything to tell but I have been to Jerome. Its a very little town! I think I basically know the whole lay out because we drove everywhere trying to find the graveyard. It was last fall I went before it was very cold or anything. My friend olivia and I thought it would be fun to visit! We rode on that swirly road and really its a beautiful scene! but I wouldn’t drive it on a winter day thats for sure. Anyway back to my story! We FINALLY arrived at the cemetary and drove in. Olivia is a this amazing like hardcore christian lol So she wasnt even about to believe or even listen to any rumors I was wanting to tell her. But there is this house almost like right in front of the graveyard. We thought for a minute that it was the persons driveway lol. Then we entered and there was a dog, but it belonged to the person that owned the house. I dont think the one I saw was a rot. it looked more like a great big black lab maybe it was a pure black rot. I wouldnt know. It did go to the enterence of the graveyard and stare at us. I tried to call it over cuz I love animals but it just turned away and troted off… thats the most we experienced with a dog involved. We both walked to the back and entered the forest and to me it was an odd feeling like theres this barbed wire you have to step over (which I almost tripped over everytime haha) but then if u go further there is like a little trail so we went back there and it was like this feeling of happyness and freedom and we took pictures of the trees blocking the sun and both of us in the forest. and then as we were walking back to the cemetary once we got back we started to look at the old stones and look at the years the pepole lived but there was these 2 stones in the back corner that just really drew us in we both just stared at them I dont remember what was written on the stones but it was like this sad feeling overwhelmed me. So I took a picture and yea we basiaclly took a bunch of digital pics and I looked at them and there was nothing that we cought like orbs or spirits. Then as u come in the cemetary there are these two headstones side by side and they looked newer then any others but the dates are old on them but when we read them and took pictures its like we had the urge to put roses on that grave lol it was odd we didnt though cuz well we didnt randomly have roses but we both thought it. We didnt have anymore time cuz we had a local show to get ready for. But i wouldnt mind going back again! It was a wierd experience but fun none the less!!

Honestly here is how I look at huantings like this one…. Its a rumor. Like thats all it has to start as. Then negative energy will feed off the rumor cuz people always say places like these are haunted and have some sad story to go with it. But the mind is a powerful thing and when so much sad or any negative energy is focussed on a single place its like it comes into play. So Im not saying that its not haunted cuz it very well could be! But I just think people should listen to the rumors and take them as simple stories until they have their own story from a place cuz if you enter a place like this with a negative mind then its like it becomes a reality and you then have a negative experience. Thats just my opinion though. ttfn!

I have heard a lot of stories and i dont know which one to believe……. I am going to check it out on my own. personally i believe it….. i dont know why some one would make it up………amd a story i heard is that a little boy killed his parents amd every body elsse in Jerome….. they are all buried in the cemetery….. they are buried in the shape of pentagram “devils shape” in the middle of the place………… now you are suppose to drive in, circle the middle three times so it makes 66 and another six and then you stop the car….. then it is down hill from here…………. that is my comment…

"Molly" says:

September 22, 2007, 4:17 pm

Me and a few friends went to the Jerome Cemetry as we called it the “666″ Cemetry, because the drive way is in the shape of “6″ so we drove around the circle three time to make “666″. We stop the car and got out. We heard a dog start barking from a distance in the direction of the creek. The barking starting getting louder as if it was getting closer. Then the barking got to a point that it sounded like it was right in front of us. Then the barking moved from us to the direction of the road. Then stopped there and the dog would not stop barking until we got back in the car. This happened during the day at 2:30 in the afternoon on a quiet sunny day. I explained it as a neighborhood dog. I found out later of the dog that haunts that graveyard. The story was told to me that a man that lived in the town years and years ago went crazy one Sunday morning and borded up the church. Then burned the towns people alive inside. When he was caught him and his faithful dog had been killed and buried together in that cemetry. I did not know if they are buried under a grave stone or even which one to could be. The dog barks to let his master know if someone is there.

I just went there tonight. I heard something that sounding like tree branches being snapped. I couldn’t get out of my car though, as the caretaker let his dogs out.
If you go at night, douse your headlights and drive very slowly as you do have to drive right by the caretakers house. If you hear dogs, DO NOT assume it is a ghost, as it might be a real dog. We went at 1 AM and the caretaker was still awake.

I have heard it is a Satanic graveyard though.

Everyone I know for a fact that this place is fake! When I was about 17 some friends and I would go there and were fooled, probably like many others, by the group of teenagers that lives to the North of the cemetery. They have two very large dogs and sometime they will camp in the woods just outside the back part of Jerome. We met them there one night when they were trying to scare us. They also told us that their fathers before them had been doing the same thing. The place isn’t really haunted and the only reason it has a legend to it is because of this family that has been scaring people for the fun of it for the past 30 years.

Amber says:

October 29, 2007, 12:59 pm

Ok, This is infact very fake. I grew up with the family that lives to the north. I camped in the woods and I helped scare people. We did it all the time. They do have 2 enormous black labs and a large rotweiler. The dogs have free run of the woods and property. They more than likely would chase because they are friendly. It is a cool cemetary, but dont waste you time if you are hoping for a true haunting. Sorry to disapoint.

I am from Jerome. In fact, I live less than a quarter mile from the bridge as well as a quarter mile from the graveyard. If anyone knows the lay out of Jerome you will know what house is mine. I have heard an unbelievable amount of stories associated with both. I will be the first to tell you that I grew up with the so called “care taker” of the cemetery. I have been to the cemetery an uncountable number of times, you can see it from my kitchen window. I will also tell you that I have been on many trips with him to scare people looking for a good time. I myself have never seen or heard anything unusual at the cemetery. The bridge on the other hand is another story.

I noticed in a post above someone said that the bridge was haunted because of Christians making human sacrifices under the bridge. This is not true. The story behind the bridge is that a girl was once raped and killed under the bridge. If you go down there you are suppose to hear the girl scream. I have been down there many times and heard nothing. But the last time I went was different. I went with a few friends who did not believe in ghosts or spirits. We got to the bridge and nothing happened. Then, a drunk friend of mine decided to walk to the edge of the bridge and yell, “you better scream you ***** or ill come rape you myself”. No sooner than he got the words out of his mouth did we hear a horrible scream. One friend is 6′7 another a boxer and I was a wrestler for many years. When we heard this we ran like a bunch of girls the entire way back to my house. The friend who yelled was so scared he puked in my driveway. I have not been back to the bridge since.

As for the church that use to be there, the were no sacrifices done there. My uncle now owns the property that the church use to sit on. The story behind the church is a bit freaky though. When Jerome Christian church moved to another building, the building that was in Jerome sat empty. There are stories of neighbors seeing lights coming from the basement windows late at night. Apparently, people we breaking into the church and performing witch craft in the basement. The church was then torn down and the basement covered with dirt. That is how it stands today. My dad mows it all summer.

I hope this puts some of the bullshit stories to rest about Jerome in general. All I can say is that I believe with everything i have that both places have some weird stuff going on. You just have to be there on the right night. Im sure there will be people who think this is bulshit, but its 100% fact.

I have been there back in about 1994. Me and 4 friends went to the graveyard. It was rather dark out. We circled the Graveyard. By the way it is shaped in a a circle. As we left i had a thud against my car looked out the window and the “hellhound” was there actually we had 2. Both had the glowing red eyes and the bit. We burned rubber out of there. At the time it was a hidden dirt path but from google satellite view it looks as if they paved it. But I have tested just about every haunting in Howard County. It’s the only one that proved truthful. Bridge in Jerome was a dud. I did hear the story about the satanic church that used to be there. But no documentation on it so it might be just a hyped up part of the story.

My Grandmother lived in the house to the north of the cemetery. (My cousin now lives in a new house built there) I grew up spending a great deal of time at my grandma’s including the cemetery and never experienced anything mentioned here. And yes, I do believe in such things..I have experienced them but never there. Further I have never heard anything about Satanic cults in the area or anything of the sort. There is no way my parents or grandparents (or aunts and uncles who also live in the area) would have allowed my cousins and myself to wander around the area as we did as kids if there was anything to be concerned about. And my family has lived there all my life (40 yrs). My father (Died in 2002 in his 70’s) was born in the house to the North. In other words my family has been there a LONG LONG time. My grandmother was born in Greentown, married and moved into that house in her teens. (She died in her 90’s in 1992). Now I don’t recall ever being in the cemetery at night, but in all my days spent in that area, including the bridge…I have never had any ghostly or even scary experiences there.

I’m a photographer and enjoy doing edgy and surreal pieces and was looking for inspiration. After a recommendation from a friend, I just visited the “infamous” Jerome Cemetery earlier tonight. It’s the wee morning hours now, just took my friend home after reviewing and enhancing the visibility in the photos.

From what I can gather, much of the young adult and teenage crowd of Kokomo are familiar with and quite uneasy about visiting Jerome Cemetery after dark. I’d heard many of the rumors just from the small group of people I know from Kokomo (I’m from Cicero). Mostly 3 different rumors were circulated the most.

Rumor 1- demon dog(s) and caretaker haunt the cemetery and will chase you until you leave.

Rumor 2- a girl was raped and killed down by the bridge and her ghost will sometimes wander into the woods along the edge of the cemetery. (from “eye witness” accounts- apparently she resembles the chick in the well from The Ring)

Rumor 3- the drive for the graveyard is “shaped like a 6″ so going around it three times (making a 6 6 6) will stir up the evil spirits.

Naturally, my curiosity was piqued.

I’d been there once before during the day, but never at night and was anxious to see what i could find. Unfortunately the individual I brought with me was so spooked by the place i only took 7 shots before her pleas of “get back in the car” and “we need to leave now” were more than i could handle. So I reluctantly agreed and we sped out of their as fast as was needed to appease her.

She kept telling me she felt like we were being watched and that something was all around her getting closer and closer the longer we stayed. I was disappointed thinking “surely with only 7 photos I didn’t catch squat…”

I’m glad to say- I was wrong. :)

First before I divulge my photo info though, let me touch back on the rumors.

#3- the “6″ shaped drive.
Anyone with a little patience can find the tiny town of Jerome with one of the various satellite image map websites out there. The graveyard is an almost perfect circle with a straight line coming out of the north east quadrant of it. Kinda looks like a ping pong paddle… Some how the thought of table tennis does NOT strike the fear of the devil in me.
VERDICT: False.

#2- Freaky female ghost reminiscent of Japanese horror flicks haunting bridge and woods near cemetery.
The number of times I hear this rumor come up, it almost always has about the same details. This tends to make me think there might be a bit of validity to this one. I’ll have to research further, see if I can find actual documented accounts of rape and murder there. My photos however did not have any apparitions resembling The Ring or The Grudge rejects… but with only 5 minutes and 7 photos to go off of…
VERDICT: Inconclusive

#1- Demon dogs and cranky watchmen don’t like visitors after dark.
In the graveyard I saw no signs of red glowing eyes, demonic hounds, nor hooded spirits. On my way OUT however, I saw a dog following my car. All I could make out was his black silhouette against the lighter colored gravel and the occasional glisten of his eyes when they caught the light. By his casual pace and wagging tail, I highly doubt this was a nether-beast looking to rip my throat out- just a wandering neighborhood dog looking to chase a car.
VERDICT- True that people saw a dog. False that he comes from hell.

Finally, let me talk about what I DID find….

Not being able to venture far from the car without my friend freaking- I stepped a few feet into the cemetery, took a photo, rotated a few degrees, took another photo… wash rinse repeat… you get the idea.

When I first looked at Photo 1, it seemed pretty boring. Too dark to see very far in the photo and what WAS there was nothing out of the ordinary. Gravestones, grass, and gravel. I tweaked the contrast and brightness a bit and then I was surprised at what I saw… There appeared to be about 6 very small white orbs scattered about the cemetery. Granted not real exciting as they were barely visible until I upped the brightness.

On to the next photo (#2), again I tweaked the brightness. This time there were about 8 orbs scattered about the graveyard some were a bit larger than before, but the most interesting part of this photo was that there appeared to be 5 more small orbs hovering over one specific stone. I was starting to get excited.

Photo 3 is where it really started to get interesting. I didn’t even have to tweak this photo before I noticed anything. Two distinctly shaped orbs were perfectly captured in the shot. From the perspective, the one toward center must have been only a few feet in front of the camera and about the size of a softball. Keep in mind, it is really dark in the cemetery and you can’t see far at all, every photo was done with a flash, and it surprised me to have it so close but not see it with my own eyes as I was standing there. Makes me really wish I had taken my time with each shot and looked before I pressed the button. My friend that was with me said that she thought she kept seeing lights near her and they seemed to be getting closer while we were there. After tweaking the brightness I noticed there were 5 more orbs as well, but seeing 2 of them so vividly was pretty exciting.

Next shot (#4) had 16 orbs! 4 of which were orbiting one brighter and bigger one just above a grave stone. Seeing this in the photos starts to give you an eerie feeling. Seeing random lights is one thing, but when they start clustering with almost a sense of intelligence you begin to wonder what else is there to experience.

Photo 5 only had 4 orbs and only after I tweaked the brightness so I could see them.

The 6th photo had 10 orbs, all of which I could see without any brightness adjustments. 2 of them were really big and bright compared to the others.

The last photo (#7) seemed about the same as the one before. I apparently didn’t move the shot very far from the previous one because I was rushing to get one more shot before I hopped in the car. However, I caught the same 2 bigger and brighter orbs, that were in the previous shot, once more. What made this exciting was that they had moved! The one toward the center had moved to the right and down a couple feet, while the one to the left in the photo had moved up and to the left about 2 feet. The fact that I caught their movement in the photos added to the validity that it wasn’t just random camera malfunction.

In conclusion, I can’t with 100% certainty say that Jerome Cemetary is haunted, however, I am willing to say without a doubt that it has paranormal activity, and I for one will be investigating further. And I HIGHLY recommend you do the same.

Hogan…Quest Researcher.

In 1847, Hampton Brown migrated to this area from Grant County, in what is now the Jonesboro area. He and many Quakers established this area and opened it up to westward migration after the land was a Miami Indian Reserve. Brown established a mill on the banks of the Wildcat and the town blossomed to compete with the nearby town of Greentown. The town was named after Brown’s son Jerome. When the railroad bypassed Jerome in the early 1880s, and instead went through Greentown, it sealed its fate and the town began to slowly die. The mill was the last one to operate in the county in 1898. The cemetery was established in 1857 and is classified as a pioneer cemetery. The bridge was the first concrete bridge built in the county.

Jerome is a place that gives off a strange vibe for a few reasons. The first notable fact is that it is a very hard place to find unless you know how to get there. There is no direct road you can drive to reach the town, all three roads that lead into the small town dead end to other roads. The town is surrounded by two creeks and woods and is easily missed if you don’t know where your going. Google Earth views shows what Im saying better than trying to describe it. When you do finally find the place , you have a sense of mis-direction or even being lost.

The second obvious fact is that there is a lot of Lore about this place. This goes back many Generations. I was told by my father and he was told by his father from the fifties as a kid. The stories about the cemetery and the bridge seem to change from generation to generation, but the one thing that stays the same is that the town of Jerome will probably aways have its believers that its the place to go for a good scare.

When I was a kid the two houses next to the cemetery wasn’t there and the place was more secluded. The cemetery gets older the farther you go back towards the wildcat creek.

You can see video footage of Quest’s investigation of the cemetery in 2007 on ghost diaries on the web and youtube.

Happy and safe hunting.

Me and my friends are the ones responsible for the scaring of people. We used to camp out there in the woods and drink and scare everyone who drove by. Those were the days. I used to live in the house next door and those were my dogs, not any ghostly creatures. But I do enjoy hearing your stories!

I had never heard anything about this hell hound until today. I have been to jerome several times in the mid to late 90’s. Everytime something was just strange about the place. For instance all the road signs were removed for all the curvy roads, when we drove through the town once it was completely dark, then 1\2 hour later every light was on in the whole town. Whenever we drove by in the daytime people would stop what they were doing and stare. The same day we saw a guy on a flat black girls bike stopped at a road and his eyes were not human(undescribable). One time I think in 1996 I went ther and on the sign at the church said “meet people from the 1860’s this sunday” Yeah, I may have not been completely sober at the time but, I been alot of other places and never had any expereinces like this. And I have been with 4 people probably 4 times and another couple people 3 times.

I have really enjoyed reading all these comments. I grew up in Jerome. I lived there for 15 years. Well, in the house at the end of the winding road going out of Jerome south. I walked that winding road, all of Jerome, and the cemetery for years. Nothing unusual. I always love going to cemeteries, just in case it gets exciting. And the bridge, well, I sat at that bridge, and under the bridge more times than I can count. Nothing. The old bridge had a lot of character. Then when I was 14 or 15, they built the new one. I didn’t like it as well. I used to could lay in bed on a quiet night and hear a car drive over the old bridge. It was awesome. Then I watched everyday as they built the new one. It was quite interesting. Seeing a big gaping hole when they took the old bridge out, then the new modern one. It lost it’s allure. Anyway, thanks to all of you for making my day. I would love to go back and run those roads and hte cemetery again. However, it’s more fun if you can do it with someone else. There are so many stories about that town. I love it!

Been at this location twice conducting host hunts at or near the witching hour, have all of the equipment to do it and I’m an experience ghost hunter. Really didnt see much out there, especially no hell dog. My team did get funny feelings when we were out there but that was about it. Picked up a few orbs on digital camera, nothing on infrared, EMP or EVP. Worth going out for the creep factor but nothing else.

I have been out there..it’s been about a year now but I don’t really want to go back..My husband and I were on a motorcycle during the day and once I started walking towards the back part(seems like the older part of it) the hair on my arms stood straight up. I never felt this in my 36 years of life! I wanted to get out of there so I headed back to the bike and once I got on the road (the infamous 6), my uneasy feeling of being watched went away and no more chills!!! Explain that & all the orbs in pictures. My husband wants to go back with his camera but I don’t know if I can. My stepson said he saw a “fuzzy” boy in the cemetery and we didn’t even say ANYTHING to him about all the “spirits”!! Will let you know if I go back but I really doubt it!!!!

Do all of you realize you are talking about two separate Jeromes? Is this one mostly about the one in Arizona?

I recently visited the jerome cemetary along with my son and good friend we drove around and my son spotted it we arrived at 840 pm the sun was setting and believe it or not the temp did drop we all three walked down to the edge towards the back of the cememtary I noticed it really does fall back on the hill I told my friend that it was sad that people would have to go down a hill at some point to bury their loved ones why would it fall to the edge …. Anyhow coming up from the edge my right side of my arm had goose bumps visble to my son and and so did his we compared these to my friend I thought this is weird but my other arm had nothing as his did not either we went to get in the jeep and my son son said did you hear that I thought hear what and he said it said “don’t leave” I heard nothing The strange thing is that we never heard of this place we were driving and my son saw it and said Mom do you see that graveyard we backed up and went in I looked on the internet for this cemetary being old never heard the rumors until the page displayed one thing my son is 9 years old he wasnt afraid to enter and i do believe he heard someone ask him not to leave!

I was out there last night, in a blacked out police car. The only thing you will find out there if you go around Halloween is me and some of my friends waiting to chase you off. By the way, there is nothing out there.

I lived beside the graveyard for 19 years, literally share a property line with it ( house on the right as you drive in). Ill admit ive messed with people out there but that place still scares the **** out of me sometime. ive seen way too many things out there to say its not haunted. Look for the little girl during the winter thats when she was raped and murdered her scream with chill you to the bone. (every member of my family has had experiences with her)

I was there around 11:30pm with my friend. He has a voice recorder on his cell phone and he walked toward the far right back corner and asked if there was anyone there, then asked if it was the spirit of the little girl that had been murdered there. When we played back the voice recording a voice had answered yes in a demonic tone to whether there was someone there and said no when asked if it was the little girl. My friend felt someone tug on his jacket and said he saw eyes in the trees and heard laughing as he got closer to the grave of the little girls father. We believe the demonic voice and the laughing was that of the father. We were there once before that and he asked if the spirit of the little girl was there and when the recording was played back a little voice that sounded to be about 6 which was how old the girl was when she was killed said yeah.

There is a house RIGHT next to this place though.. so I’d advise people to be quiet, they could call the police and have you escorted out. NOT FUN.. haha Might try going back though, still a fun place!
