I attended K-State in the early ’70s and had a number of music classes in the east side of Memorial Stadium. Most of the profs who taught there heard strange noises, especially later in the day and on weekends. The stories have been around for quite some time. Personally, I never heard or saw anything strange, but did often feel like I was being watched while I waited for a class in the structure.

I’ve been going to Kansas State University for two years now and I’m a theater major. I’ve worked in the Purple Mask theater. And I myself have experienced odd activity. Things go missing, props get moved around, lights flicker on and off. I think that whatever haunts the Purple Mask is just a spirit that likes to mess with the living. A friendly poltergeist if you will. It is believed by the majority of students that the spirit is a ghost from a football player that died during a game. Whatever he or it is… it’s there.

I work at KSU at the old stadium, the “Gated” hallways are the telecom dept’s area and the place is alarmed. I’ve been here at ksu for a year and a half and have not seen anything that would be counted as paranormal.

I also went to school at ksu for 5 years graduated in dec 07, so here is my part to the story. My great aunt when she went to school there in the 50s actually lived in the west side of the stadium! thats cool huh! i actually heard that the man who haunts the east side is a man who died from injuries he sustained while moving props. Evidently a large prop fell on him and crushed the poor guy. There was also a paranormal expert who went there and said that in fact he did sence the presence of a being there. Anyways just watch Ghost Hunters every Wednesday night at 8 on sci-fi and check out http://www.paranormal.about.com! ALSO last bit, my friend who also lives in manhattan, originally from Paraguay, recorded the best ghost video i have ever seen when he was talking to his friend in paraguay over the internet. go to you tube and type in sophie freire ve un fantasma….im telling you peeps….seriously the best video ever…short but as real as it gets!
CHAU!!

I know this one is true–Nick flicked a light off and on 5 times when I went through the entry tunnel once. I watched for a bit once I was on the other side–solid light!

When I went back out after watching the band rehearsal, he did it again :)

He’s a playful fellow :D

Afew years ago my husband took an acting class at K State and their final scenes were in the Purple Masque. During the show the stage lights went off for about an hour and then came back on. Meanwhile nobody could get into the control room as the door was locked. Also the props kept falling down, sometimes in the middle of a scene. I think Nick is real!!!

I’m a K-State Student and grew up in Manhattan. When I was a kid, I was in the purple masque for a show and Nick (the ghost) tugged on my shirt.
I’ve heard lots of other stories, too. Some folks think he wasn’t a football player but an old farmer.

Hey i do believe in Nick the ghost but see, some of the things that are told i dont believe, i was reading through the comments earlier and the one about that girl and her boyfriend walking around and seeing the player, kreepy. I do believe the Purple Masque is haunted, I have been to K- State before and in there is a really eerie feeling. Nick is a playful football player that likes to mess with the living. Tell more stories please!!! This is so fascenating!!!! :D

I am an employee at K-State and work at the old stadium. The area is gated off because thats were our vans/equipment is kept for the Telecommunications department. I enter the old theater area regularly to get supplies and have never heard or seen anything out of the ordinary, and I have been there late at night from working basketball games. I wouldnt recommend hanging around there in the tunnel though because the police patrol it regularly and the buildings do have alarm systems.

Okay. I used to live in Kansas and I went to my brothers and sisters graduation at KSU, but there is nothing haunted about KSU. I mean nothing.

One of the colleges most famous haunted spots is the Purple Masque Theater, which is located on the main floor of the East Stadium on campus. The theater is alleged to be haunted by a mischievous spirit named Nick, who has never been seen, although his voice has been recorded on tape. It is believed that the ghost is that of an ex-football player who died in the building in the 1950’s, when it was still used as an athletic center. He was injured one day during a practice and brought into the building, where he died soon after. His playful spirit has been here ever since, stomping up and down hallways, on staircases and on the theater stage. He also moves chairs and hides theater props at night but he is most famous for the levitation’s! Wooden boxes that have been stacked in the dressing room have jumped to the floor and then re-stacked themselves… before the startled eyes of several witnesses. There is also a report of a fire extinguisher that was seen spinning around in mid-air, spraying white foam as it traveled.
