Real Haunted House

Kreischer Mansion

Staten Island, New York

The Kreischer family once owned and operated a brick factory that supplied most the bricks for the Staten Island area in the 1800s. With their profits, they built two large mansions-one for the original family, and another for their son, and his wife. The second home, which was built far from the main road, suspiciously burned down, taking both the son’s and his wife’s lives. Prior to the burning of the home, a feud had erupted between the son and his father, for which there was no reconciliation. It is said that the home is now haunted by the son and wife, with apparitions appearing, banging noises, and doors slamming on their own. The house has since been converted into a restaurant.

this is definitely i worked at the restaurant for about two weeks. i was a busboy there, and one night i waas sent into the basement to get supplies for the owner. i heard a door shut in the back of the basement. wondering who it was i went to the back and found nothing. after hearing some more suspicious noises i went back upstairs without the supplies. what i heard sounded like argueing but i was sure there was no one there. i quit my job there shortly after.

My grandparents, father and myself all grew up in Charleston, Staten island. My grandfather once told my father a story of how when he was a little kid (early 1900s)on halloween they went running through the yard of the mansion. One kid ran into legs and somebody had hung themselve in the tree right near the house. Maybe that person has somethign to do with the encounters. I also think that the history is incorrect, I think there was 3 mansions built two next to eachother and one across the road. My aunt used to knwo the poepl whome lived there as a house right before it bacame a resturant. I would be scared sh*t to live there.

i attempted to see this mansion on aurthur kill road, but it was remodeled. it use to be white, now its a dark color. anyway, they sold the place. when i went there 3-4 months ago, there was only a porch light on, and a red light on the top of the house where there is a balcony. but there were no other lights on. i really wish i could get a tour of the place.

OMG! this place is freaky. 2 years ago a bunch of friends and I idled our car in front of the house. My friend (driver) started yelling at the house and siad that the guy dserved to bed dead and such… and some old guy in a pin-strip suit walked through the gate and made a swipe at the window. I screamed for my friend to hit the gas… turns out noone else saw the guy walk and the car and swip it…
Freaky part: after we were driving away finger marks streaked down the window on that side. My friend (driver again) goes “Oh yea… prove your here” “H-E-L-L-O” appeared backwards on the rear window so he could read it trhough his rearview mirror.
Needless to say I got outta that car ASAP.

What is it with the idiots who leave comments who don’t even know how to spell? Hey people!!!!! Why don’t you give a **** and show that you have half a friggin brain?

I grew up on Staten Island and know about all of these paranormal sites. I think even the ghosts who haunt these places have more common sense to show that they can spell. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if one of you nitwits become a ghost haunting a place after you are dead, and someone comes into the place you are haunting and you write “I am a gohst!!!” in the dust on a mirror to scare them? Yea, you know, you idiots who can’t spell. You will be just as dumb in death as you are in real life.

When I was a teen I used to hang out Feedback Studios which was right up the road from the Kreisher Mansion. This building intrigued me so much I did a day of research at the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences on the house. Balthazar Kreisher built the twin mansions for his sons, he did not inhabit any of the buildings. He had georgian style mansion that overlooked the brick factory. His mansion no longer exists.

Before the firs of the house, his son’s wife was having an affair with Dr. Washington who had his office and house on Main Street in Tottenville. In fact, his house still stands and a friend of mine’s parents still live there. The house is catty corner to the 123 precint. The last time I was there the house was yellow.(I now live in Savannah, Ga) Anyways, B’s son’s wife left her husband and then the house mysteriously burnt down. The fireplaces and some of the fixtures in the Dr. Washington house were actually salvaged from the Kreisher Mansion fire.

Now I have no doubt that the standing Kreisher Mansion is haunted. An ex friend of mine has pictures that prove to me that there are people still there. The last thing I have heard about the mansion is that the property was sold to a property developer that is making an old folks living community. With these changes there have been a ton of changes to the house, which saddens me. It’s a beautiful piece of architecture.

IVE PASSED THIS HOW MANY A TIME DRIVING BY JUST CRUISING THE ISLAND LATE AT NIGHT WITH MY FRIENDS. FROM THE ROAD AS WE DROVE BY WE ALWAYS SAW LIGHTS ON AND WHAT SEEMED TO BE FIGURES OF PEOPLE LOOKING DOWN AT US. SO ONE NIGHT WE ALL MADE A PLAN TO ACTUALLY GO UP THE HOUSE N LOOK IN THE WINDOWS TO SEE IF WE SAW ANYTHING UNUSUAL. MIND YOU I WENT WITH ABOUT 9 PEOPLE OR SO, SO WE WERE IN 3 CARS OUT OF THE NINE MYSELF AND TWO OTHERS WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO WAS BRAVE ENOUGH TO GO UP THERE AND LOOK. WE WALKED UP TO THE GATE WHICH AT THE TIME LOOKED LIKE A CAR HAD CRASHED INTO IT BUT FROM THE INSIDE NOT THE OUTSIDE LIKE SOMEONE WAS STUCK INSIDE AND TRYING TO GET OUT BUT ANYWAYS WE WALKED UP TO THE HOUSE THERE WAS A CAR PARKED ON THE FRONT LAWN THAT YOU COULD NOT SEE FROM THE ROAD. AS WE LOOKED IN THE WINDOWS WE SAW NOTHING THE HOUSE WAS TOTALLY EMPTY MY ONE CRAZY FRIEND WAS BRAVE ENOUGH TO GO UP ON THE PORCH N LOOK IN THE WINDOW WHILE ME AND MY OTHER FRIEND REMAINED ON THE LAWN I WASNT SCARED OF GETTING CAUGHT BY COPS OR ANYHTING LIKE THAT I JUST FELT A PRESENCE AND I DIDNT WANT TO BE TO CLOSE TO IT SO AFTER THAT WE HAD WALKED BACK DOWN AND LEFT. THERE IS ALSO A SIDE PATH IN THE WEEDS LIKE BEHUND THE HOUSE THAT LEADS TO A BARN OR SHED WE DID NOT GO THERE IT WAS WAY TO DARK BUT THAT WAS BY FAR THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE

I would love to see the home’s interior. Are there any groups that give tours in old mansions and historical homes on the island. We moved here two years ago and I love this stuff!!!! :)

On 2/04/09, me and a few friends went to go see the mansion. we went through the gates to get a closer look. There was a red light upstairs on, and a porch light on. Also, the top floor had a light on. As we got closer, about 5 deer ran out from in front of the house. It really scared me half to death. But as we got even closer, one of my friends slipped because it was snowing. When she fell, she dropped a few things including her house keys which we went back the next day and found them. But anyways, I would love to see the inside of the house. Even pictures if possible. Anyone? Thanks.

I am friends of the family of Robert Mc Kelvey, the last person to perish by the hands of the last caretaker, & psycho-path, Joseph Young. This family is distraught with answers as the Ct. date for the Monster, “Young”, shortly approaches. Being an “englighted” one, the name CHEECH or TEACH continually is summoning to me…This is my 1st experience of such place, event or details. Anyone with any, authentic & serious answers to either of these (2) names/words, please feel free to post & contact me at your earliest convenience. Peace, Light & Blessings~ Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern,

I caught this thread online and have been trying to find contact info for the Kreischer Mansion.

I work for Home Box Office and we are currently scouting locations for a new television series titled Boardwalk Empire.

Boardwalk Empire focuses on crime and prohibition in 1920รข??s Atlantic City and stars STEVE BUSCEMI (Armageddon, The Sopranos, The Big Lebowski.) The series will be produced and the pilot will be directed by MARTIN SCORSESE (Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed.)

If we shot at the Kreischer Mansion we would fully insure the owners, plus pay location fees based on how much time we would need to occupy the space.

If you have questions or know how I could get in touch with the owners please call me @ 917/270-2950 to make an appointment.

Thank you very much for your time and interest.
Sincerely,

Jason Minter

I was in the Mansion twice. First time was about three weeks ago and second time was last week. Nice old house, original interior. Not scary at all. Actualy it was around 5-6pm, pretty dark. Walked in every room including the basement. Reason for second time is it was too dark to take a good look at the interior. It is very cool, a lot of wood moldings and very detailed. The owner must spent a fortune to build this house. What I liked about this house is it doesn’t have that old house stinky smell. By the way, I went inside the sheds in the back of the house too. A couple of old bicycles and ****. There is a shooting range/paintball area not far from the mansion, so people do not get scared when you hear noises:).

I am an associate producer with a new documentary television series considering doing an episode on the Kreischer Mansion. We’re looking for anyone who has ever personally witnessed or knows someone who has witnessed strange activity connected with the mansion. We’re most interested in speaking with those who actually lived or worked there and had some frightening experiences there (former owners, employees, contractors). We are also interested in any stories involving animals. The unique spin of this series is that animals are also affected by paranormal activity and can even see/hear things before their human owners. I don’t know if there are any stories of living animals acting strange in Kreischer, but if we can find one it could be on TV!
My e-mail address is paranormalcast@gmail.com. Feel free to contact me if you have a personal story to share.

I used to live in SI and once spent the night at the mansion before it was supposed to be converted to a restaurant. A friend of mine was living there with his wife as a sort of caretaker. The place was a mess, with the large mirror on the first floor smashed by vandals.
He invited two of my co-workers to live there with them. They had a pretty neat setup, with cable internet hooked up, with all 3 computers near each other in the same room. They hooked up another PC so that I could join them in a round of Starcraft. Before bedtime that night, someone had mentioned that the place was haunted, and pointed me toward a stairway leading to the attic, or the next floor up, whatever it was. I graciously declined, having seen way too many horror movies in my time. This was early 2000’s, so I don’t remember if I heard any strange noises, but that could be because I didn’t want to hear any noises.
The only thing eerie I can remember is the dark stairway to the next floor up, one that I refused to climb. Call me chicken, but I don’t recall any of my companions volunteering to escort me up the stairs either.
The 3 guys initials that were there that night are JY, AA, and HMB. If you guys happen to see this post, please respond. Would be good to hear from you guys.

I worked at this resturant over the summer as a hobo. I went downstairs to get some ingrediants for some soup and heard a bump inside the storeroom. I opened it and found an apple and an orange on the ground. I was so freaked out that i turned around and ran into a metal pole. The apple and the orange rolled around me and i slipped on them. I quit the job the next day because of a broken wrist and a black eye.

We went last night to Kreischer Mansion….and its not abandoned. Lights were on in every room on the second floor and on the very top floor…also lights were on in the first floor also in a back room. A car was parked in the yard. We did not see anyone. Also when we looked in the windows there wasnt anything on the walls ….but if it was abandoned…hmmm I dont think every light would be on. We went to quite a few places last night …wolf’s pond….didnt see anything…we went to Billop house and Conference House….that was spooky we did catch some things on camera. Also beside Conference house 3 of us saw a figure walking towards us ….then we didnt see him….we looked all over for him.
If you go to Billop House go down the path next to the house towards the woods….you will come to where the path T’s ….at the T do not turn left or right……Just write me back and let me know what you saw and felt. I am not going to say what we experienced…..I want to see if anyone else experiences it.

Kreischer mansion may be haunted but it is also private residence. Given its recent history you are unlikely to get any response to investigation or interview request from the current owners. However it is currently for sale so if you have 11 million dollars you can find out for yourself.

My Nanny used to cook for the Greenfields in this home. My mom tells me they were very nice people. They used to rent rooms out to long shoremen and seamen. Not haunted at that time back in the 50’s. I love to look at this home every time I pass it. So beautiful. It seem they are always ripping down the old beautiful homes instead of fixing them up.
