Real Haunted House

Lillian Collins Hospital

Turlock, California
By Robin Wright

Originally the Sierra Building

In the 1920′s, this was a small town hospital that cared for the citizens of Turlock, California. According to a recent ghost hunting expedition done by American Paranormal Investigations, it seems that the building still cares for their spirits, though both their bodies and the hospital are long gone.

Built in 1918, The Lillian Collins Hospital was located in what is now the Sierra Building and currently contains Coldwell Banker Endsley & Associates. The hospital was best known for the doctor who created the MedicAlert bracelet when his daughter (who also happened to be the granddaughter of the hospital’s founder) had an allergic reaction to a drug while there in 1953. The hospital, which only had 40 rooms in the two-story building, eventually became too small for the city and was abandoned. In 1994, it was purchased by Bob Endsley and the downstairs was completely remodeled. The upstairs was left the way it was, and local charities used the space to host a haunted house fundraiser. It was during these fundraisers that the odd goings on in the building were first noticed.

While preparing for a haunted house event items would go missing when left alone for only a few moments. Cold breezes, footsteps, unexplained noises, and even unpleasant physical feelings have been reported. The owner of the building has had the motion detectors go off when no one was there. The events coinciding with the annual haunted house fundraisers ceased earlier this decade, but the strange happenings did not. That was when Endsley contacted API.

The investigation, which included video, photography, psychics, Electronic Voice Phenomena recordings, as well as a group whose purpose was to find logical causes for some of the stranger things discovered, came away with plenty of evidence that the hospital was still up and running on the second floor.

On video, they asked a spirit to come closer to their electro-magnetic field device. The EMF device recorded a dramatic spike in its levels. Geiger counter readings flared and diminished within moments and without the investigator moving.

Each and every photo captured orbs, or balls of light, somewhere on the photograph. But the truly amazing piece of evidence is the 11 second recording of a beautiful voice singing a French lullaby. The investigator was alone at the time. This recording is one of the longest pieces of EVP ever to be captured.

Other EVPs recorded were of female and male voices talking to each other, as well as male voices communicating with the investigators. One of the investigators said that the sounds on the tape remind him of what he’d expect from a 1920′s hospital.

Dark, human shaped masses were seen floating throughout the building and some investigators felt nauseated while on the second floor, feeling better when they returned downstairs.

The investigators sent to unmask the ghosts were only able to explain away the cold breezes as drafts from windows. The rest seem to be of truly supernatural origins.

I live in Turlock less than a block from where this hospital used to be. I’ll never forget getting woken up one early May morning to fire truck sirens as I came outside and looked down the street at the blazing flames I realized it was the old collins hospital in burning to a crisp.. At that time there had been only homeless living in the vacant hospital for several years and it was always said to have been haunted. Now stands a new building housing retired elderly. If you want to see a picture of the old hospital

I know I believe for I have seen more than one person can believe. I have always lived in a haunted house one place or another. As now I still live in one. I can remember when I was 8 years old. We moved into this one house, I could just feel something was wrong. The first night we slept there I started to hear this noise. A woman was screaming. The screams got closer and closer, It scared the **** out of me just hearing this Then I noticed it was coming to my bedroom. I looked up and I seen this man chasing this woman and as he caught her at my window he cut her throat. This happened everynight at 12:05. We didn’t live there very long about a month. When we moved it was as before a haunted house but just something different this time. Each house has been different each place. Some weren’t as bad as others

My Aunt And Great Grandmother Live Out In Anza Here In CA , Every House They Have Ever Lived In Has Had Unexplained Things Happen. My Little Cousin Who Was Three Had Been Pushed Off The Bed, My Grandmothers Dolls Have Been Pushed Off Her Dresser. My Aunt Sometimes Would Wake Up And She Would Be Face To Face With Something. I Don’t Know If Any Of you Know Where Anza Is But There Is Not Much Out There At all And Every House Is Far From Each other. Pretty Spooky Stuff , But They Seem To Have Ignore It Now. My Great Grandmother Thinks Its Her Daughter Who Passed Away When She Was Only A Baby. We Think She Is Jealous Of Kids. We Call Her The Little Girl In The Dress

Well,i think that ghost are humans in another dimension, like when your playing an online game and you have to choose a server, when you see a ghostly figure it might be because you where looking at the right place,at the right time and you captured a little blend between a dimension,so you think its a ghost but in fact, its a human, and they might think of us as a ghost, think about it,why don’t ghost have faces, you cant see them so you don’t know if its a dead friend or something

Would love to have the owners invite certain individuals that are real non-believers to experience the abnormal overnight and then decide whether something deserves truth or not. Start with the skeptics of testimonials of all the comments seen here. It definitely would be interesting to compare initial response to aftermath.

As one who has not seen but heard “spirits”, I do believe. However, some of the shows on t.v. are not convincing enough, nor are their EVP recordings. I would gladly be willing to investigate some of these places if money and job allowed it.
As to ObiWanKaNobi and his “SOUL to SOUL” b.s.-take it down the road scammer-send me a check n we can talk…LOL

My son, 23, is living in his fathers house, Minerva, Ohio, which I know to be haunted because I used to live there also when the kids were little. I had never actually saw anything but heard light switches go on and off quite often, feelings of being watched things like that. But my son has heard this ghost many times talking, moving things , walking , etc. he affectionally named him Henry, and my daughter has actually seen a young man in her fathers bedroom that seemed as startled to see her as she was him. My son would love to have this house investigated if possible. Also almost everytime a picture is taken of my son, there are always orbs floating around. This happens whether pictures are they are taken at his house or mine, 2 miles away. And at my property both of my kids have claimed to see an Indian woman up in our field, They had found an old cemetary not far from our property line. Would your team be interested in looking into this as the house im Minerva will be put on the market in the spring then we may never know. Is it possible for my son to attract spirits. Orbs seem to follow him.

I believe it. I’ve had tons of experiences with “spirits”, although I believe they are all demons disguising themselves…

I have had many of what I think to be encounters with ghosts or spirits. My friends and I like to joke around with each other about being pycich, and when we do, I always have a strange feeling like I’m being watched. Last year, my dog died and I cried a lot. the next morning, I saw a black dog that looked simalar to mine walk up to me, walk away, and then a car would pass by and the dog would be gone. I have told my mom about this several times, but she thinks it’s just my imajination, being I’m only 12 I understand why she thnks that, and she’s sending me to counciling for it. I also have many dreams of me walking in a graveyard looking for something, but I still have no idea what. And when I would wake up I would see what looks like my grandmother sitting in the desk chair I have in my room, then I would rub my eyes and she would dissapear. My dad is the manager of Burger King, and he says It’s haunted, I believe him. I was closing with him for the night and he went outside to get something from his truck. I was sitting in his office beside the kitchen, and out of no where I would here the toilets flush, and they’re sencored. It was as if the ghost or whatever it was, was walking down the bathroom. When my dad got back I told him about this and he went into the bathroom to see what it could have been, but nothing and no one was there. The managers of Burger King have encountered the ghost, they have also named him and be-friended him. (I call it “him” because it only haunts the mens’ bathroom)
