It's distant headlights on Highway 67. A group of university students confirmed this, going so far as to specifically identify one of the lights as a vehicle from a chase vehicle that they were driving on the highway. The appearance of the lights corresponds to the distant highway when superimposed on a daylight shot.

We have been to Marfa several times (from Illinois) and although my husband readily sees the lights, red, green, dots, bars, etc. I cannot see them. I have heard that not everyone can see them, and sorry to say I am one. They sound great, my eyesight is perfect, but I just cannot see them. Is there anyone else with this problem?

I been at the Marfa lights several times and it is true we have followed the lights as far as we could but we never caught up with it. Close by We visited McDonald Observatory of Texas A&M these professors work at night bimming a strong light toward the stars and the sky they work at night. I have come to the conclusion that it could be the reflection of the bright light bimming from the Observatory (telescopes) directly to Marfa but that is my thought. Many say it was a man lost in the desert still search and trying to find his way out. But my belief it has something to do with the study of the sky reflection.

I've seen them several times. Always around Christmas time. I've seen one light split into two and those two split into two more each. For some of the skeptics (who've obviously never been to see them), Headlights don't act that way...not to mention Native Americans have stories about the lights that date back 300+ years...

I have seen them. I have heard the headlight theory but the lights appear out in the sagebrush below the horizon. they do look like headlights blinking on one at a time, then they disappear one at a time. Best time to see them is right at dusk. I'm sure there is a scientific explanation for them but people have been seeing them for over 100 years and nobody has figured it out yet. We drove south to the railroad and followed it west a mile or two. After a while we saw a light to the east along the tracks. it looked exactly like a train headlight, then we realized it was a Marfa light. Go see them yourself.

I absolutely love it when the egg heads from the science community come to our part of the country and come up with the "Scientific"reason(Answer?) to every thing. Then leave with egg on their face.Science can't answer all questions. I would venture to say that at least 90% of the nay sayers have never been to Marfa.

Umm, I lived in the Davis Resort about 10 miles from the mountains where people see these lights. The legend doesnt say anything about spirits, people think its alien activity. Hence why they have festivals and all that and sell blow up alien figures and little alien toys. At least get your story straight before posting nonsense on here.
