Margaritis Mexican Restaurant
Though it was once the Concord police department, the building was renovated and tables now sit in what used to be jail cells. There have been reports of a ghost that has been affectionately named George. It is said that George moves people’s chairs, drinks their beverages, and even throws food.

I have been to this resteraunt several times. It is a great place to eat. I have not had any experiences there, but it is always so packed with people. It may be just too busy durring hours of operation. If you check out a book by Norm Gauthier he did an over night in the resteraunt. The story goes a prisoner hung himself. On the overnight watch Mr. Gauthier got some recordings of sounds they later figured out to be the sounds of someone stepping onto a cot and then stepping off ie.. hanging himself. And about a hour before that the got an evp saying “in an hour” The guards used to check the prisoners every hour. Was this the prisnor making plans to hang himself before the next bed check??? This is all to the best of my memory, it has been a while since I read the book. There is rumored to be another ghost as well. check out the book, it is good reading. The title is something like Ghost of New Hampshire by Norm Gauthier. Have fun. Kathy

P.S. I have lived in NH all my life and never heard of the ghost in this place throwing food or consuming it or drinks..I believe in the ghosts,see my above comment, but the food and drink, well, maybe the customers had one too many moss tequilas!!!!!!! Kathy

I think this is mixing up several different stories that I’ve heard in my times in NH. In Keene, NH, right on main street, there is a Margaritas that sits on what used to be the jail. It is the jail Henry David Thoreau spent time in for not paying his taxes. What are the chances of 2 different Margaritas in NH being where jail cells once stood?

well I can tell you that I once had a strange experience, I was only twenty one and had just gotten over serious case of the flu. My best friend wanted to take me out to eat, so off we went to margaritas. the old holding cells are actually were people can eat, away from the bar. towards the end of our meal my friend got up to use the mens room, leaving me by myself.Well as I was sitting there I suddenly became unbelievably cold!!!! but I thought nothing of it, chalking it off to the high fever I had the last 6 days and pulled on my jacket well the waitress walking our table stopped and looked at me. She asks”Is it cold in here or is just me?” NO I replied it is freezing in here. here I am with my back to the table facing the waitress when all of the sudden her eyes became huge as saucers, and at that second I heard from behind me the waterglasses tipping over!! spilling my water and my friends drink as well… From that time on (12 years to be exact I refuse to sit down stairs) I would rather deal with the obnoxious drunks and smoke.

This is definitly true. I live right down the street from the one in Concord and I always hear different stories about crazy things happening in this restraunt.

oh my gosh my friends in new hampshire used to tell me about that place! i think it would be so amazing to see a ghost, but im not entirely sure i believe in them just yet. oh yeah, the ghost story in old town, maine is incorrect, that never happened. but i still love the web site !

well this whole thing about george just happens to be true i went there with my friend and we went to go to the bathroom and when we got back half our food was thrown against the wall bahind the table and our drinks were spilt all over so if u dont believe me go there for your self

It sounds cool and i will more than likely go there after i get out of iraq. I live in Nashua. The thing is its more likely a hoax. The waiters and waitresses are messing with you to atract more people. The cold probaly ac turned up high in that area. Spilt food/drinks. Waiter sees you leave to goto the bathroom. More than likely if they thought they had a real ghost they would have a video cammera so they could publicaly show they are haunted and have lots of customers and sense they havent. eh not really believable. Im sure they do out of the norm things to atract customers by doing the waiter bit and also maybe paying people to go eat there and act like somthings happening to them.

Mmmm, before Manchester got its own Magaritas my wife and I frequented the one in Concord for about five years. I always requested one of the cells and never had a problem with this supposed ghost..oh wait that is because there are no ghosts, just peoples overactive imaginations.

I lived in NH several years ago. This was a great place to eat. We never had any strange occurances, even though we would occasionally eat in the “cells”. Still fun to think about the history of the building itself.
