Real Haunted House

Marshall University

Huntington, West Virginia
By Lisa

Marshall University in Huntington, WV is not only home to academias and co-eds, but also to some spirits.  There are several places around campus that are haunted.

Old Main, the oldest five building structure at Marshall University, has a male ghost who sits backstage at the auditorium.  He is a large man and well dressed, and believed to be the ghost of an old theater director from the 1920s.

Morrow Library now houses special collections and is mostly off limits due to the new library opening up.  However, several past students have reported hearing loud disagreements in the building, when no one else was present, and have even witnessed books falling off the shelves.

One student claims to have seen an apparition of a young man who committed suicide in the room he was residing in, Room 1218 of the Twin Towers East dormitory.

Tales of Greek life hauntings at Marshall University are abundant too. At the Sigma Phi Epsilon House a friendly female ghost named Gail takes care of the house.  Rumor has it that back in the late 1960s to early 1970s a fire broke out in the home and Gail and her twin sons died.  Fraternity brothers have reported hearing sobbing noises and seeing other out of the ordinary things.

The Alpha Chi Omega House too has a ghost present.  This one is of a little boy who also died in a fire several years back.  Strange occurrences noted in this house include gusts of cool air, flickering lights and objects that randomly disappear and then reappear.

I live in Twin Towers East (12th floor, not the haunted room) and I frequently hear creepy sounds, such as panicked breathing, in my room at night. It’s super weird.
