Real Haunted House

Mary’s House

San Jose, California

This house, is haunted by two apparitions–Mary and her son. Sometimes Mary has been reported to be very nice; she teaches children nursery rhymes and reads them bed time stories. Other times, however, Mary is said to be very evil; she has set the house on fire at least four times. Once, she ripped a cat from a little girl’s arms and threw it down the hallway. Also in this house is one room that is freezing cold all the time. There have been reports of doors opening and closing by themselves, objects moving around, and television and radio stations changing alone.

I did not read that the house was actually burnt down, that she had just set fires. I use to live in a house in L.A. in the 70’s that was definately haunted. Me and my family saw ghosts at diffrent times, and heard things. I saw a ghost wearing a morse the cat t-shirt walk through my bedroom wall. One time me and my 3 sisters saw a ghostly figure of a lady dressed like a queen standing over my one sister with a knife. Another time there was a lady in black leather standing over one of my other sisters with a gun pointed at her. I often had a ghost of a cat we had that was killed curl up by my face and start purring. Where we lived there was an appartment complex on one side of us and then houses from ours down the street. I had a friend that lived in the appartments tell me that she say someone burring a baby in our backyard. We always heard strange noises, and weird things happend. My brother went back years later and said the house was no longer there. I can’t remember the exact address, I think it was 2461 N Jackson St., Rosemead, CA. I heard many strage explainations for the house being haunted. Everything from it was over an old Indian graveyard, to the fact that our neighbor was a witch. All I know is that house scared the **** out of me. I was glad when we moved.

I have just recently heard about Marys house, but didnt know where in San jose.I do live in the Alum Rock community where Dorothy C. says its at.But i do know that there is alot of haunted houses in San jose, especially in and around the Alum Rock area, like around capitol ave next to the calvery cemetary, story road, up along Alum Rock area and down-town San jose like 8th street, 24th st, julian, and around 16th st etc… I wouldnt disturb the family that lives at Marys house but im just curiouse about where its at. As sor Tina wanting to know about the haunted house at Hellyer st and Senter rd it probably is, i wonder if its that very old house by Happy hollow park. To find out about the history about a particular place, go to the county building at the hall of records maybe you will find something about it there.

I went by that hellyer house. I even went up to the door, there was a note with some racial remarks on it and next thing I knew the alarm went off and I ran for it. A few weeks later there were some workers there building a fence around it. That was at least 3 years ago.

Man, people here are weird and confused about Mary’s house. Here is the facts about the house at first from hear say. Before San Jose being what it is today in the early 1900’s it was mostly farmland. There were a couple of farmland communities during those hay days and a small school. The story goes that she did had a son and was a teacher of some sort. Apperently she went emotionally and psychologically insane. She burnt the house several times but the house was never completely burned to the ground. There were several reconstruction of the house on the same land. I dont know what happened to her and her son but from what I heard both died that house and it still exist with several reconstructions and remodeling. The house from the outside is kept up and cleaned by the current owner. No one lives in the house until today and it has been in the market for some years now, never bought nor rented. The present owner currently lives not too far from the haunted house and I will not mention where they live but they are not too far away. How do I know about this? Well I have a brother whose fiance lived in the area all her life and I have passed that house numerous times. I also hear that when it comes to Holloween the kids who know the story of the house stay away and for their protection the owner has build a gate to prevent people from entering the premises.
