Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Maud Hughes Road

Westchester, Ohio

It is said that many years ago, a young couple was driving across the bridge. Amid a heated argument, the girl became so angry that she opened the door and jumped out of the car. Falling to her death, it is said that she let out a primal scream. Allegedly, if one drives across the bridge, the girl may still be heard screaming.

Back in the late 80’s early 90’s my husband and some friends of ours and myself decided to check out the screaming bridge. My husband and myself decided once we got there to stay in the car because of all the no trespass signs, but our friends went for it.Sitting in the car we could hear them say they were going down over the hill towards the tracks. All at once my husband and I saw head lights coming from a distancts,he got out of the car and ran towards our friends voices to let them know we saw head lights. They ran back to the car ,by then the head lights were very close…my best friend went to start her car,it wouldn’t start!!!!! A brand new car!!! The head lights belonged to a police car.He stopped to see what we were doing. We told him we were having car problems(at that moment we weren’t lieing). He told us we must have p^&*@d someone off, to give it a few minuets and try to start the car again!!! Then we all knew why the car wouldn’t start.Once the car started he followed us out to a main road….I’ll never go back!!!!!

when your dead you have no body nothing to scream with. The bridge has a “natural howl” due to the car / truck tires going over the specific road construction.

Hey I live about 20 min. away from the bridge. My great uncle told me this story when I was about 10. Im now 16.

A couple was driving along the road arguing. As they pulled up to the bridge a car was allready stopped on it and the man got out to ask them if they needed help. It was a gang. The gang murdered the man and the went for the girl. They took the girl and wrapped a nuse around her neck and threw her ove the bridge as a rain passed. So before the roped reached the end the train hit her. I have neve heard it called “The Screaming Bridge” bef ore I was allways told “Bloody Bridge”.

I am also filming a documentary on it for a school project. If anyone has extra Information for me or any advise I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey Lazer-

Yes, spirits do have the ability to make noise, it happens all the time! You shouldn’t be so skeptical of something that is way beyond your comprehension. To all of the other non-believers out there, do you really believe that this life is it? Come on now, that would be a little disapointing, don’t you think?

this stuff is real. i used to live off of carson and yankee rd. some friends of mine and i went out to check for some 4-wheeling places for my buddies ATV on maud hughes rd. there were a bunch of trees torn down due to a new subdivision being built. me and my buddy scott were walkin around lookin for places, while my other 3 buddies went muddin in his blazer, (which is now built over new houses) they came back and said they were having so much fun, so i hopped in and went with them. unfortunatly we were goin a little too fast and hydroplained and flipped the blazer. after we all got out and saw that we were fine, we go in my buddy scotts truck and he went to take us home. while going home, he asked if we wanted to stop at the bridge, (since we were already filled with adrenaline after flipping a blazer doin 70 MPH) we did the whole light thing and shut the car off. just the sound of cricketts in the background. then we heard brush rustling, thinkin it was a deer or raccoon, then something hit the front of the truck, it made it move about 4 inches from where the tires were, we were like WTF!!!!!! then the screams came. the truck wouldnt start for a few minutes…i mean, the truck wasnt even a year old! then it finally started and we headed home. (then had to get ahold of the liberty Township Sheriff for the blazer insodent) just a weird night.

The bridges referring to babies people keep speaking of are known as Cry Baby Bridge stories. These stories are numerous in their amount and contain the key points of every fabricated story. There are 19 reputed accounts in Ohio alone.
How many unwanted babies and mistresses decided to jump off of bridges in Victorian times(1800’s)? Any baby story regarding a bridge I myself ignore.

Screaming bridges are another similar story that is talked about in paranormal investigative circles across the world.

Supernatural car troubles are also a frequent of all of these stories and hand print representations on person or car windows are also quite frequent.

I’m sorry, but don’t get me going about the boyfriend leaving the car to find him hanging with appendages bumping the car then the girl being murdered. This is a lovers lane tale that has been told about escaped murderers from prisons with hooks for hands and all sorts of other strange killers.

I’m not denying anyones claims and I’m not denying the validity of this story. I think though the many “telephone” style morphed versions about this though show that there isn’t much support to it historically. Historical research is imperative in paranormal investigation. You have to know if there are death reports, police reports, news paper articles, or first person accounts before putting the whole story together.

I have not been there myself but live not far from there.
I have been to most every place south of Columbus, Ohio and north of Lexington, Kentucky with a few visits to Cleveland. I have experienced things myself.
I plan to visit this place and spend many hours if possible there to figure out just what is there.

I personally think that all of this ghost story stuff is ridiculous but I want to investigate some claims for myself and some of my believing friends just to show that everything we experience in our lives is completely natural and has a logical explanation. Read a couple of books on evolutionary psychology and you can gain a slight understanding, or should I say idea, as to why people believe in things that when tested experimentally(read: objectively) don’t stand up to what people think and sometimes “know” what they saw(read:subjectively). Powers of persuasion is also at work in instances like this. Vague example: E: “John, did you hear that?” J: “No Eric I didn’t, what do you mean? What do you hear?” E: “It sounds like someone yelling or maybe screaming in the distance….can you hear it now?” J: “Yeah, you’re right. That is someone screaming!” That is how evp and and pictures of “ghosts” work. We convince each other more than anything. And to the comment posted by Maggie a LONG time ago. What if this life is all there is? I’m not claiming to have knowledge that it is but how can you prove that theres something more? And I dont think that us being disappointed by only having one life changes the fact or even gives support to the argument for an afterlife. It actually just sounds pretty self centered to think that of all the species that have ever existed that we have this “right” to not be disappointed by having only a physical life. Just because our brains evolved to the point that we have been able to ponder these questions and think about death doesnt mean that an afterlife all of a sudden comes into existence. Ridiculous. Cherish this life as if its the only one you’re going to have because it probably will be.

We drove out to this bridge last night… It is a one lane bridge. How do you stop in the middle of this when either side of the road is TWO LANES??? we did stop on it for a minute…not long because there was alot of traffic. it sounded like someone was walking up from underneath the bridge…you could hear what sounded like a twig break??? Could it have been an animal?

We want to go and find a good place to park and get out and walk around. Anyone have any ideas? I know it was after 10 when we went out there but I did not see any train tracks either?? We also heard a train, it sounded like it was on the right side of the road behind some houses. (We turned on Maud Hughs off of Princeton Rd)

I am intrigued by ghost stories and myself and a group of friends went to the “screaming bridge” about 20 yrs. ago in high school. Everyone was amped and ready for a ghostly experience. We got out of our cars and walked over the brigde and under and heard nothing until…..there was a very loud screech, or yell. We about wet ourselves! Much to our dismay it was only an owl. So….if you have never heard an owl screech you just might misinterpret this for a scream. BTW, the rumor back then was that there was some sort of demonic cult called the “Children of the Night” that had meetings under the bridge.

I ran across this site about Maud-Hughes Road because I was actually looking for anything at all about the Mason Light phenomenon. Anyone ever heard of that one? It’s out in the same area, between Hamilton and Mason, near Maud-Hughes. And, by the way, the stories about the ghost train are true. I saw it myself, more than 30 years ago. I used to live in Hamilton years ago, but have been away a long time. I was just thinking about the Mason Light and went searching. Found nothing. The Mason light was incredible and way too scary. The last time we tried to go out there (more than 30 yrs. ago) a bulldozer had scooped up the pavement where you turned onto the road off Rte. 4 and there were barricades so you couldn’t drive around. Thought that was very strange.
