Maud Hughes Road
It is said that many years ago, a young couple was driving across the bridge. Amid a heated argument, the girl became so angry that she opened the door and jumped out of the car. Falling to her death, it is said that she let out a primal scream. Allegedly, if one drives across the bridge, the girl may still be heard screaming.

I lived in Hamilton all my teenage years, My friends and I went to the bridge often, We heard the stories also. But in the many years we went never heard or seen anything. I know this imagination takes you pretty far, and also everything else we did. Between the alcohol and whatever we could get our hands on we tried the experience maybe we was just to happy. But some have heard and some have seen. In that i guess its what you beleive.

I grew up about 2 miles (away graduated in ‘96). The ’scream’ is the tires going over the bridge…the road has ridges. Been there, done that. As for the guy who was pushed in the bushes…don’t forget that area is near gregory creek which was once used by Native Americans…follow it up past the trailor park and you’ll come to where they uncovered some burial mounds in the 1990’s.

This used to be a fun one to go to about 10 years ago but thanks to the many new keep up with the jonses subdivisions it just is’nt the same when the whole ride out there is lit up with porch lights and entrances to new neighborhoods. The ride out there used to be half the fun.

This sounds really interesting, and not to far from home. I have been looking for somewhere to go for a “ghost hunt” for my graduation project for Junior year. I live in Pittsburgh, PA, but can probably get a ride to Ohio. If anyone has REALLY had a real experience here, please feel free to email me at Kenneth.Lippert@cityhigh.org. Also if anyone knows of a good haunting closer to me, e-mail me as well.

My co-worker and I were on our way to this bridge when we decided to stop at the Speedway instead. There we were looking over the snack cakes, debating on which delicious snacky treat to purchase. When all of a sudden we heard a girl screaming. It was the same girl from the bridge, she was screaming because she lost her speedy rewards card. I guess she had like 8 gallons of free gas on it, and bam! she was screwed. We’ll never go back to that speedway ever again!!!!

i am only 12 but have had alot of experence with ghosts. just yesterday i had a light on right next to me and it turned of by itself, so i reached over and i felt a cold spot.So i started using a emf detecter that i got for my bday because i love ghost hunting. ond the emf spike was high.so i checked the temperature in that spot and it was 40 degrees and the rest of the room was 60 degrees. So u can tell that any ghost story i can debunk but not this one. look for more of my comments on the other storys on this website. So i say this story is real.

After hearing about jack’s experience me and a few buddies from work went to check this place out. They had all been there before, but even though I live around the corner I had not. We did the whole stoping the car and whatnot but after about a minute we heard nothing. Decided to go walking on the tracks below and once again, nothing happened. Not saying it never happens. Just not to us. Although one explaination for the screams could be this: other people like myself under the bridge trying to get spooked. When another car was coming up to the bridge we had decided to let out a scream if they stopped their car. So, the other experiences could just be from jerks like myself

I have visited this bridge about 50 times. The only thing that is close to truth, is the bridge is very close to the train. Not much clearance. You can sit on the bridge, and the train looks like it’s going to hit the bridge when it passes. From what I remember, the train seemed to pass just before midnight. We typically sat on top of the bridge, and drank ourselves to a drunken stuper. We also used to light up fire-crackers. The funnest, was dropping glass beer bottles over the bridge onto the tracks. As the glass bottles shattered, they would release a glow (kinetic energy). The funnest we ever did…. my buddy was taking a leak near the edge of the woods by the bridge, he stumbled across a scare crow. We cut it down, and place it on top the bridge. We waited under the bridge to see what would happen when others came. A couple of cars came. I remember a Trans-Am with 2 girls in it, come across the scare crow. They stopped on the bridge, and literally freaked out. They were screaming as they were squealing the tires to get away. They backed up, and left. Another truck came just after. The truck stopped, all of sudden the driver started laughing, stomped the gas, and drove over the scarecrow. He kind of gave it a “yee-haw” as he drove over the thing. Finally, “Johnny Law” showed up. There we were, under the bridge, cop on top, literally we were 10 feet from his car. The cop shined his spot light on the scare crow figure. He then backed up, and left the seen. We quickly gathered up the scare crow, threw it into the trunk for another fiasco the following weekend. On our way out, we passed an ambulance heading in that direction. For whom the ambulance was heading too is not known, but we like to think it was all part of our gag. NOTE, I never saw a darn thing in my 10 year reign going to this place. Both on top the bridge, or below the bridge. However, I met a few other groups partying there, just hanging out. It was kind of a hang out. Lastly, we finally met our demise. Years after torturing those that lived around these parts. We were doing our typical drinking, busting bottles, and lighting off fire works. We were confronted by a near-by resident. Ole’ Mr Russel McClure…. We tried to out run him, my buddy made off in his Mustang 5.0. Me, I was saving gas driving my Dad’s VW Rabbit. Well we couldn’t out run Russell’s truck, he finally got the best of us, and ran us off the road. A little scuffle ensued, and the police came to the scene. That night, Russell was a mad man, the scariest thing I ever saw at Screaming Bridge. You could tell, he was at his wits end, to punks like us hanging out on this bridge making his life heck for years. Well Russell took my buddy and I to court. After lawyer fees, we got 40 hours of community service for our actions. I only went back a couple of times after that to show others this place. However, the bridge used to be much scarier, it was all painted up in graffiti at one time. Kind of set the mood/scene. Since, the good neighbor police renovated the area to clean it up, and removed the graffiti. It was much less appealing after the clean up. This bridge is a staple of fun, and good teenage frolic. Everyone should pay their right of passage to visit this place…. Have fun, GP
