Real Haunted House

Mental Institution for Children

Meadow Vista, California

This site, which now lies deep in the woods, was once a mental institution for many “crazy” children in the 1930s. There is also a hospital associated with the abandoned cabins that lies 10 miles away. The children, who were violent or depressed, were sent here for treatment. Children who misbehaved were strapped to the beds with belts and beaten until they were unconscious. Many the children were killed and due to this cruelty, the facility was closed and the gate around the hospital’s perimeter was chained closed. Many have seen not only lights in the windows, but shadows of children as well.

Hello fellow haunt seekers, my name’s Kaelin and I’ve recently been studying the paranormal and related such sunjects. Currently I’m looking for some haunted locations throughout California where myself and a small company of about 3-5 people would be able to stay the night to do some investigations. If anyone has some suggestions for places we should visit, let us know. You can contact me at the following email address, which is also my msn messenger contact.

kaelinem@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance,
Kaelin

It’s not snobbish to say what I’m about to say. It’s nothing anyone should have any cause to get upset about. And you’re not proving anything by getting angry and doing the opposite. Please. People, please. For the love of Jehovah, please. Retards. Re-read what you’ve just written in this three by five inch box before posting. Once that’s done–and should it prove necessary–make corrections! I know grammar is boring. I know spelling is sometimes confusing. Nevertheless, it’s something that must be dealt with. You’re excused, of course, if English is a (i.e. your) second language. The rest of you numbnuts, though, are on my list. You will be killed and turned into ghosts to haunt libraries for ever and ever and ever more.

I used to work at Our Lady of the Oaks. It is a Catholic Retreat. It is located off Boole Road in Applegate. You really shouldn’t be looking in the cabins. I know that someone lives in one. Someone lives in the house by the “lake”. From the history I was told by the man who runs the place, it was a hunting lodge in the early 1900’s. I have seen the pictures that back that story up. The retreat is about 300 acres. I never heard anything about it being a mental hospital for children or adults. I have been in every building on the property and have never seen nor felt anything. I have been there late at night and early in the morning. I think you guys have the wrong place.

Hey everyone, I live in Meadow Vista, and in fact I just two nights ago went to this place. My friends and I were driving around hoping to find a badass place to Egg, or TP. We were thinking of Winchester, but we decided it felt really wierd (odd). So we drove around for a while, then we decided to get someones house apposed to houses in Winchester. So we went back into town (Meadow Vista) and we were thinking to go somewhere, and the driver (18 years of age) decided we should go check out this so called “Haunted House”, at the time I wasn’t that bothered by it. But, I did not know what this place was. As things continued to be odd through the night (Winchester has no security for some reason, everyone has their indoor lights off when it’s only midnight, Meadow Vista is completely ******* empty… a COMPLETE ghost town.. for the firt time I have ever seen)So we drove to Applegate and made way to our destination. the next wierd scary and odd thing, was the fact that the first closed and locked gate/fence was completey wide open. So we drove down that terribly scary *** dirt road (ignoring the fact that it was opened) and eerie chills struck everyone in the car, and we had been scared shitless. Continually driving towards the Asylum, we arrived no much longer after that happened. as we slowly turned the corner I looked to my left and we had arrived. The Brick structure gave a gothic brutal gruesome feeling just by the stare. We decided to stay infront of the building because there was no way in hell I would go in there, or attempt at the time of day. We sat in the car facing the building; Fear crowded in the car, as we stared into the windows. Not less then 2 minutes later we heard a buch of movement, almost clattering coming from the inside of this place. I kid you not, we heard some really wierd disturbing noises. Knowing that whatever we had come to see was iside that building we continued on and sat there waiting for something to happen again. We waited about 5 minutes until we heard ambient and very odd noises coming from out of the huge hills of brush surrounding that place, so we decided to get the hell out of there. so we drove away reletivley slow (I dont know what was with my friend that had been driving). But we made it out…..scared shitless. We wanted to go back home. More odd **** kept happening. We checked our phones, 3 of 5 phones had died. Mine thankfully did not. Battery had been completely drained. And that is no freak coincidence all phones were fully operable before arriving at that place.
The highway was empty as we crossed the overpass, and drove the side roads along the highway (we had view of the highway for at least 7 minutes) very very odd. And once we met an intersection (haven’t seen a person, and or car for the last 20 minutes) all the lights were RED. A four way intersection, no one at any of them. All RED! Everything, even the turnings (which usually arent more than anything). Everything was RED. The freaky **** is that they didnt change we just had to drive through them. (You can say its a technical difficulty all you want, no way it was, my feeling was too strong). After the intersection we drove back into town, and back to my friends house. The next day (around 1 in the afternoon), we decided to go there to further more inspect it. The gate was locked this time. We went on foot and hopped the fence. One of my close friends decided to go into the house! He was being crazy! He hoped the second fence (The bobwire fence surrounding the building) he stayed on the bottom floor. We talked to him from outside the building. Not less then fifty feet in was a ******* COFFIN! He yelled it to us, and we told him to get the hell out of there and that we were leaving. Instead of listening, he picked up a led pipe near the ground next to him. He used all his courage and insanity to open it up. He used the pipe to almost pry open the coffin. He must have been pale white, until he noticed nothing was in there. He booked it out of there, he couldnt take it anymore. We left back home.

The place is haunted, no doubt.

I am from Half Moon Bay and my sister worked as a waitress at the Distillery for 2 weeks and says she will NEVER go back. Not even for dinner. She doesn’t really talk about what happened except for 1 story:
The wine cellar is located downstairs and the door opens inward. One night she went down to retrieve a second bottle of wine for her table and couldn’t get the door to open. It took 3 strong guys to finally pushed the door open, when they managed to peak inside they saw that all the cases of wine had been pushed up against the door, all the way to the ceiling. She hates it there. Even when we drive by she gets creeped out.

Here’s the real story o and location of this site. Yes its 100+ years old and was/is a treatment facility. The cabins are still there and the lodge (not a hospital) is still there.

Our Lady of the Oaks Applegate, CA

Siegel & Strain recently completed a masterplan for the California Province of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) for their retreat facility in the Sierra Foothills just east of Auburn. The project encompasses approximately 300 contiguous acres of meadow and densely forested hillsides above the American River. The original 100 year old lodge and cabins, and the more recent structures were evaluated for their architectural and structural integrity and their environmental performance. The master plan includes recommendations for new structures and modifications to existing ones. Additionally, it addresses the Jesuits’ environmental concerns and is designed with the intent that the facility be a rentable mountain retreat when not in use by the Jesuits.

After reading some all of your accounts and experiences of this place i did not know what to believe I had to check it out myself. Last night six friends and I drove up there. When you get to the locked gate by the Catholic Resort there is a sign or more of a memorial to a fraternity of some kind that was at that spot there is also information about a publishing company on that spot also. I assumed this “asylum” was not there. However my friends and I hiked up the dirt path and if you stay to the right you come upon an old brick building about a half a mile in. This building is very eerie, it is completely boarded up and has some sort of alarm system according to the seals on the doors and windows. It is most definitely 1800s built. Now I could not tell you if this was is or more preferable was an insane aylum for children, that is beyond me. The only evidence that maybe suggested that was the small and strangly well kept flower gardens by the door way. There was little benches that suggest they were for children. Now we had no recording equipment that some howslipped my mind. There was definite movement in the surrounding bushes and trees, this is frightening but hardly evidence of a haunting. I assume a rabbit or coyote. However, three of our group heard what they called knocking or maybe even hammering coming from the inside of this building. From this trip there is no conclusive evidence of a haunting at this site, but you do never know maybe we just didn’t get as lucky as some of these other persons.

TO ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS, PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MINDS OPEN. IF YOU ARE IN THIS JUST TO GET A SCARE YOU’LL NEVER REALLY FIND THE TRUTH BECAUSE YOU’LL BE WAITING ON THAT MOMENT FOR SOMETHING TO JUMP OUT AND SCREAM “BOO”. IN ANY INVESTIGATION YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE GOOD WITH THE BAD. IT’S LIKE GAMBLING AND FISHING, HOUR NOT GAURANTEED TO WIN ALL THE TIME, OR CATCH ANYTHING ALL THE TIME. THAT’S A TRUE INVESTIGATOR. TO THOSE OF YOU WHO DON’T BELIEVE THAT IS CLEARLY YOUR RIGHT BUT DON’T TRY TO BRING DOWN ANYONE ELSE WHO DOES AND ARE WANTING TO FIND OUT IF THESE HAUNTINGS TRULY EXISTS OR NOT. I FIND THAT IT’S THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS NEGATIVE AND ALWAYS FINDING SOMETHING STUPID TO SAY WHO ARE THE FIRST ONES TO RUN LIKE A ***** IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO POP OFF. TO THOSE I SAY “STAY YOUR *** AT HOME AND WATCH RE-RUNS OF GILLIGAN’S ISLAND”. SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY MORE SUITED FOR YOU.LEAVE THE INVESTIGATIONS TO THE GROWN FOLKS, FOR THOSE WHO ARE SERIOUS AND TRUE TO THE CAUSE, I SAY MOUNT UP AND LETS DO THE DAMN THING!! UNTIL THEN PEACE OUT AND DEUCES!!

Your story is true because I watched a movie that was based on the same story and the producer himself died at after the production of the film.
He was 21 years old and was not ill…
