Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Metz Elementary School

Austin, Texas

When this school was demolished in 1990 there were numerous reports of strange occurrences. It is said the bulldozers would stop working just as they reached the century old building. Constantly, workers fell from ladders and tools disappeared. Workers also began reporting children’s writings on the blackboards and ghosts in the restrooms. Things got so bad that an exorcism was performed. Shortly afterwards, a wall inexplicably fell and killed a worker. Today there are still reports of restless child-ghosts at the site.

Actually Metz is a real school. Im 26 years old and I have lived in austin texas all of my life. Its in the east side of austin, Its on robert t martinez jr street. I have heard all of the stories and my friend went there when she was younger and also said that same things that alot of these people say on their comments. I do believe in that and it was demolished but rebuilt. I pass by there everyday on my way to drop my daughter off at school. I believe there are ghosts and as long as they dont bother me then I have no problems with them. Well all be there one day….

Thanks

I grew up in austin and moved away at 32,both my parents grew up in east austin and it seems my aunts and uncles all agree that there was definitly something there. I only drove by it once before demolition and I got the same uneasy felling in the pit on my stomach. I found out about the school only after this happen to me.

This Crystal chick is ignorant because Metz is not fake…if you don’t know the facts then shut up and keep your 2 cents to your self… oh yeah and learn how to spell correctly. I live right down the street from METZ..The old one was torn down and they remodeled it and made a brand new one. The bricks that fell down for no apparent reason happened to fall on a family friend. It was all over the news for a good while about all the sightings and what was being heard. It’s true, so like I said before shut the hell up youngsta!

I just happend to find this site when I done a search on the web to read about Metz elementary school.People this school does exsist and I know for sure something went on during reconstuction in that school in the early 90″S AT the time I worked in a convenience store and started talking to some workers that went to my store in the morning before going
to work at that location They said work was slow as workers constantly quit the jobbecause of strange goings
on.By the way the wall never fell down it EXPLODED for no reason at all after a worker took his hammer to a wall to tear down sheet rock.Due to his death a investigation could not determine ANY CAUSE.It was said at first it was natural gas methane gas so on. This was an attempt to cover it up with an explanation for insurance purposes WHY? well because they couldnt find any reason for it This people is the real story.

Ed Goodwin says:

July 21, 2006, 2:39 am

By the way I noticed all the comments by little Crystal I cant spell better than her but Crystal get your facts straight before you post on the web Metz does exsist It is part of austin school district If you dont believe me go to the web site get the phone number that is listed call the school to find out. Better yet if you live in Austin you can find it on 84 Robert T Martinez street.Even better you might get to speak to one of the workers first hand like I did.

Okay I live on the east side of Austin, Metz is a real school and it is still standing. Its located at 84 Robert T Martinez Jr St/Austin, TX 78702. Now for all of you who are guessing its haunted for this or that reason. Back in the 80’s unsolved mysteries and 48hrs did a series on hauntings and good ol’ATX made the cut. The history behind it has nothing to do with a kid killing themselves the episode was about how you can hear native indians chanting or walking down this long corridor that leads from one side of the school to the other. I am sure you can google it. Now I have never been to the school because I decided not to tempt whatever is there, if there is something. who knows?!

My name is Judy Torres ( Torres Trucking & Excavating & Demolition) Our family was responsible for the excavation and demolition of Metz Elemantary. It is very hard to read comments that state the events that happened are not true. During the time of the demolition, we encountered children laughing and writing on the chalkboard and yes, their was an exorcisim performed on site. We also lost an employee because of the events.
We did demolish the entire school. Since then it has been rebulit and is once again operating as Metz Elementary. Their are reports that the hauntings are still happening at the new school. I would like to respond to all the comments. I have notified my siblings so that they can help me in responding to the comments. Our Father, Joe Torres recently passed away but since this is a family business most of us were their when the events happened and would be glad to answer as many questions as possible.

Hello, Judy Torres again. I found a site called, whatwasthen, it has information about the school including history and the story about the demolition. Go check it out before you decide on whether or not the hauntings exist.

WELL I KNOW THIS STORY IS VERY REAL THE REASON THAT I KNOW THAT FOR ONE IS BECAUSE I USE TO GO TO THAT SCHOOL AND FOR TWO MY LATE GRANDFATHER JOE TORRES WHO OWNED TORRES TRUCKING IS THE ONE WHO TORE DOWN THE SCHOOL.THEY HAD MANY EXPERIENCE’S THERE.MY GRANDFATHER LOST NOT ONLY WAS HE A CO-WORKER BUT A GOOD FRIEND WHILE DOING THE JOB THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION TO HOW OR WHY IT HAPPEN.MY UNCLES WERE ALSO WORKING WITH HIM AND THEY ALL HAD THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE’S.THIS JOB FOR MY GRAND FATHER WAS A VERY SCARY JOB BUT HE ALWAYS SAID THAT NO MATTER WHAT THERE WAS NOT A JOB HE COULDNT FINISH.IT IS TRUE ABOUT THE MACHINES AND ALL THE TRUCKS TURNING OFF AND THE LATTER SKAKE-N AND THE MESSAGES ON THE SHALK BOARDS AND THE KIDS THEY SAW.THERE WERE SO MANY THINGS THAT HAPPEN. I REALLY DONT RECALL THE EXORCISM BUT I KNOW THEY HAD A EXPERT GO THERE AND SHE SAID THAT THOSE WERE NOT EVIL SPIRITS THEY JUST WANTED TO BE LEFT ALONE HER NAME WAS ELAINE IRELAND (PARAPSYCHOLOGY).I KNOW THERE IS A NEW SCHOOL WICH WAS REBUILT OVER THE OLD ONE IS STILL NAMED METZ AND I HEAR THERE IS STILL A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON THERE WHICH REALY DOES NOT SUPRISE ME.BUT FOR ALL OF YOU WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IT I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY. I GUESS YOU WOULDN’T UNLESS YOU WERE THERE OR WENT TO THAT SCHOOL.

Anyone that says that Metz Elementary doesn’t exist or that it was never torn down is a f**king moron. I have lived in Austin almost all my life and I remember when this happened. The death of the worker was on the local news as well as in the Austin American Statesman (newspaper).

The original Metz Elementary was demolished in 1990 and the new Metz Elementary was constructed in 1991-1992 on the same site where the original buildings stood. If still need proof of this, You can find the new schools listing on the Austin Independent School District’s website:

Well, I went to the old school before it was torn down and played on the old fire shoot. I never knew about it being haunted but I do have a very wierd memory in about the 2nd grade a little girl that I never saw again was motioning for me to go up into a storage closet that was never open. I still remember how awkward it was that she was telling me to come into that room she was dressed in a plaid dress and seemed nice but I did not know her. Well I did not follow her and told some of my other cousins who went to metz about it. We never saw her again but I can tell you that it is still with me till today how eerie it was. Yes it is true about the person dying when the place was being demolished and the people who were telling the story are well known and are not the type to play around like that. They are a family owned business anyways if you look up the news in the early 90’s you will get true testimonies of news reports of the incidents and work delays. Real place, I am not sure about all the hype and some people may add things but I know that a lot of my family have strange stories from the old building and there was generations and generations of my family who attended this school even now our younger generation still attends the new metz. Anyways just wanted to share a bit of my experience. My kids have attended this school and my daughter had the bathroom doors locked on her and the sink turn on she is still spooked out by that memory. Well I don’t belive in ghost but have seen some things that I do not understand. Thanks for reading my comment.

I also attended Metz first in kinder…and then 5th and 6th grade….I lived 2 blocks west of the school…I was very upset to hear that they were bulldozing it…Its funny cause i can still smell the school…i can still picture its layout in my head….and to be honest i have never loved any other place as i did Metz.. It holds countless of cherished memories for me…and im sure for many others…the whole haunted story is true…i wont get into it..but i know if you lived around that area..most of the elders would speak of it aswell….nonetheless the old Metz holds a very special place in my heart….
i would love to find a old picture of it…that is one reason i stumbled onto this site…if anyone has any info as to where i can obtain one it would be most appreciated…..and for anyone reading this i am 31 years old…my name is Rosalinda Rodriguez…..my kinder teacher was Mrs.Kilmain….and my 5th grade teather was Mr.Kirk…..i forget the rest…anyways…

I attended metz school in the 1960s.
I lived at 2203 willow street
I had many tramatic episodes as a child.
One occassion My sister saw a girl dressed in a long dress and she disappeared before our eyes.
Swings on the playground would swing see saws were going up and down, The merry go round would swing all for no reason no breeze.
I could hear children laughing and even see them playing on the playgrounds and as i approached them They would disappear.
errie things happened on our street, Wreaks and break ins. Nights were so evil.
It wasnt just the school that was haunted it was the entire block.
Onced As i slept I saw a man in a red suite run at me and i closed my eyes and said jesus and as he picked me up he flung me across the floor the next day thier were huge hoof prints in our yard.
Another time I saw a latern around midnight swinging back and forth in the middle of Willow street and a man was chanting ” Now hear this Texas John Slaughter is now dead”. I dont know whim he was but he must have lived on Willow street.
i am sixtie years old and I could talk all night about the errieness of Willow street, im glad dad sold the house, and the Ghosts in 1969.

My mother has owned the house that sits right across the street from Metz Elementary School ( 2201 Willow St. )since the late 50’s. I attended the school and expereinced some paranormal events back then and Now. I remember when the construction worker got killed and hearing little kids laughing and playing across the street in the middle of the night as the school laid in rubble. The whole neighborhood used to play behind the school on the old fire escape ( slide ), the basketball courts ,on the football field, and the infamous playground. On the weekends when the school was closed we used to see children looking out the windows, of coarse this did’nt happen all the time but when it did that was enough to keep us from hanging out at the school when the sun went down. We also used to see the crazy events that happened at the playground. I also believe that my mother’s house is haunted. I recently moved back in with my mother to help care for her in her elderly age and once again started seeing ( and hearing ) some crazy #@%!. For example seeing shadows moving across the dining room floor and hearing children playing ( in the middle of the night ). I know I live in the Eastside ( and proud of it ) but hearing kids playing at 3 am? Believe it or not I really don’t care but this area seems to have a few souls still roaming around, weather it be the kids who attended Metz or the Native Indians who once camped here next to the Colorado River. Metz Elementary is located Less than Half a mile north of Lady bird lake, aka Town lake, aka The Colorado River

Hello,

I went to Metz Elementary as a child and never experienced any paranormal activities at the school. I loved the school dearly. Rosalinda, I would have been in the same classes as you – in Mrs. Kilmain’s class – I am wearing the purple shirt that says “I Love My Mommy” in the school year photo of 82/83. I have only half a picture of the auditorium/cafeteria side of the school. Please let me know, if you would like a copy, I have spoken with many of my former classmates from Metz and none of them have any photo’s.

Hey Jaime, this is your cousin, hope you are well. All my love, B

I used to go to school there in the late 1980s.I lived 4 houses down from the school. I never experienced anything but I found that this old school gave me the creeps. There was rumors that a kid died falling from the 2nd story stairway. the downstair restrooms and audtorum were very creepy and the classrooms had these creepy backrooms that they used for storage. I visited the school 3 years ago was sad to see that it was replaced with a new one. Anyways no experiences but I think it was haunted.

The lady who went to Metz in the 60’s is right the whole neighborhood was creepy. I lived on Willow st 4 houses down from the school. Me and my mom used to hear foot steps on the hardwood floors in the middle of the night. One time I was playing kick the can with the neighbor kids at night and they had a driveway that went all the way to the back alley and my friend said that when she went to hide in the back that she say a little boy dressed in a suit. If that is true idk but thats what she said. And there was a fireshoot that was located in the back of the school the gym was also the cafateria the library was located upstairs, those restrooms downstairs were the creepiest I hated going in there. I was also upset to see that the pool and park that was down the street are no longer up and running. The neighborhood is a bad place then and now lots of crime and and break in. This shcool is real my father also attended it in the 1940’s. Go Metz Cobras

I live on the east side and have heard all the stories about Metz. My daughter told me a couple of years ago she took my granddaughter trick or treating they were walking past Metz she decided to stop and take pitcure with her digital camera. She told me that when took a look at it, there was a bright orb like light. I told her mabe it was a car light, she told me no there were no cars around when she took the pitcure. She got scared at left real fast.

I do believe that cu metz elem does exsist and on of my uncles use to work there years ago. he was one of te construction workers and he said he will never forget what happened. He also said that kids got killed in or by the walls . He would never go by the street were metz is . some people say they would see the merry go round thing would be turning and the kids would be playing . I heard that they had to have a tree blessed and removed from the grounds of metz elem cuz that is were the remains or the spirits would all gather,

Trust me folks, everything haunted about Metz Elementary is true. I am alma mater to this institution and I experienced several incidents there that will never be explained. The main reason is because the original structure was demolished and that’s where the “attic” existed. For those of you who also attended Metz, you know the attic that I’m writing about. Voices and movement in the attic was a common occurance but no one ever dared to walk up the stairs to darkness to find out what the cause was, not even janitorial staff. The attic was elevated very high into the “third floor” that didn’t even exist. It was a stairwell to nowhere. Looking at the building from the outside there were only two stories. No where in the architecture of this facility existed a third floor, but yet there was a stairwell that extened upwards into darkness. Several of us tried climbing up those steps, even the bravest(the cool fonz type guys) and no one could make it past 3 or 4 steps, because you got enveloped by darkness and cold and you would immediately turn and run back down. Take it from me people, this once grand old school, was and still maybe, home to a legacy of frieght and the unexplained. -Tony, class of 1975.

I was born and raised in Austin and lived there for 25 yrs and remember my dad telling me about Metz. He even took us there to see it when it was only half way demolished because of the phenomenons happening there. But I will not dare to go back there again unless it’s during the day and I am distant from it. You can believe it or not but I know what I saw when i was younger.

Greetings from a fellow Metz Elementary student. M-E-T-Z metz is the best…I too, grew up in East Austin and went to old Metz Elementary before the new one was built. I never experienced anything out of the ordinary but I did hear stories about Metz by those who lived in homes surrounding the school and I remember the episode of Unsolved Mysteries too. I was one of those “brave” kids who attempted to walk up to the “third” floor, but didn’t make it that far. I never understood where that staircase led to because from the outside it only looked as if the old Metz only had two stories. We were the neighborhood kids who used the fire escape as a super slide or the field to play baseball or kickball on the weekends. Was the old Metz school haunted? I guess it is yet to be determined. Thanks Barbara for the link.

Wow, I volunteer at this school two times a week and had no idea it is haunted. I’m going to ask the teachers if they have seen any things in the new building, and I think next time, I’m going to go to the bathroom to see if its as creepy as everyone says it is.

MelissaQ says:

The teachers there told me that there are definitely ghost but its not scary cause they are just children.
They told me that if they stay late, they can hear children playing in the hall. Also, the cleaning lady told me about a trail of footprints of a baby (or at least very tiny) that led to a staircase but the weird part was that it was only one foot and not both feet making the trail. And another teacher also told me about a footprint from a baby (also just one foot) in her classroom.
And the cleaning lady also told me that one time when she was vacuuming after school, a little girl walked into the room wearing a bonnet and a white dress. She told the little girl, “Mija, what are you doing here. You missed your bus” but the girl just stood by her. Then the girl ran under a teacher’s desk and disappeared.
I don’t care what you believe but I definitely believe it coming from the teachers that work there everyday. And they said that the ghost activities happen more around Halloween, I guess because of the day of the dead.

Hello,
I went to the “old” Metz but honestly was only in pre-k-1st grade. I do remember all my teachers Mrs. Castanon, Mrs. Ramirez, and Mrs. Hart. I don’t remember the old Metz much I can only remember the hallways of the classrooms I needed to go to. And honestly don’t ever having a weird experience. While the new Metz was being built we went to some school called Webb. Anyway I returned back to Metz, and that’s when weird things started happening…Yvonne I think I know u (torrez?)…anyway I had the same experience of the water turning on and the toilet flushing on its own. But that just happened once. But there was several times when I would walk down the hallways by myself and I would get chills or a feeling like someone was watching me. I never saw an actual figure but did see things move. Its weird I never experienced anything at the old Metz…just at the new Metz.

I attended school at metz around 1962. My brother Charles and sisters all attended thier too.
I hold fond memories of that school sometimes I awaken from a nightmare
That Im there at that cold school and cant get out.
Many paranormal activities happend. My first grade teacher was Ms. Dingler
I also had a student teacher named Ms zigler.
I had blonde hair and green eyes, and didnt know much spanish but I made many friends.
I learned to speak spanish at Metz school.
At night our big house located across the street on the next block was eerie.
I hated nighttime to come.
Iv seen anyone from confederate soldiers to children laughing, and disapearing.
My other teachers names were Ms. Mole, Ms granthym and Ms. allen for six grade I had Mr Ybarra. Ms Giles worked in the library. Coach Cannel was our Pe instructor.
I remember all of them like yesterday.
But every night nearly we were awakened from freight, Many times people were trying to break in or we would be awakened to horror Like someone pulling up the window where I slept and no one being there.
Today I will not sleep by a window at night.
Im glad We sold that house after the sixth grade, and moved to North Austin.
Here is a peem I would like to share with you that was written by our sixth grade class with Mr Ybarra as teacher.

well I was tired of being a fool so one day I joined Metz school
Where girls and boys they, work and play from September through May
Uhuh they do we work and play all day
uh huh we do from Sept through May
teachers of grades one two and three they work with you and me
When they cant teach us anymore they send us to grade four
uh huh they do so we can learn some more
Uh huh they do they send us to grade four
After grade four than comes five and if you still survive
we learn more English, Science and Math or else they send us back
uh huh they will, we have to learn our math
uh huh we will or else they send us back
after grade five sixth grade remains and if we still have brains
we will wonder why we started Metz school and call ourselves a fool.

Ok, so my friends and I were talking about some things that have happened to us in the course of time, and they came up with something to happened to them regarding this school. This is what they told me, and I would like to find out more about this school. They were telling me that they had heard that this school was haunted, so they decided to go to this school, which they clearly stated the intersecting streets. They told me that the windows seemed a little fogged up, and they were going around it in their car. They soon came up to what it seemed to be a dimmed blue light inside this room. They looked around from the outside of course, since they are a bunch of girls, (scared) and one of them saw this arm, like it was holding something. She screamed, and they left. They talked about it for a while, and decided to go back. Don’t ask me why or how they came up with going back, but they did. So again, they saw the dim blue light, and the four of them, which were 3 girls and a guy, saw the arm in the room. Looked like a construction workers arm, like he has holding something, or pushing something back. So they left, and got on the internet, trying to figure out what was going on with that school. They found out, that there was a worker that had died in that school, where a wall had fallen on top of him. So looks like that day, they saw that worker. I’ve been trying to go there, but not alone, reason being that i’ve had things happen to me as well. But of course, you always have that adrenaline pumping in you, bringing you back to those things. Looks like everytime people see ghost, it’s pretty much they are re-living what was once before.

I was just swapping ghost stories with my girlfriend and wanted to prove to her that Metz was a real place , and stumbled on to your site . To start I was a security guard for a company called ” Longhorn ” in 1990 . We were rsponsible for the overnite security of the site . Let me tell you that I was not a true believer in the paranormal before I was stationed at this school . Let me point out this school was not in the greatest of neighborhoods , so I took my gun , which I did not need because no one in the neighborhood would even walk on the same side of the street as the school . Also , the whole time I was there I could here these kids laughing and playing . This would have seemed appropriate and normal , had it not been pitch black dark out , and if I had accually seen some kids . Even so it wasn’ t until I was relaying this story to someone else that I realized that the whole time I was looking for proof of ghost , I had already been exposed to them . Metz is a place that made the hair stand on my neck.

I lived in that are for most of my life. When I was young in elementary Metz was a small school all the stories that you hear of the machines and a man dying and the children being heard are true. They were remodeling the old school so that it was nicer and larger. When I did attend the school never had we heard such things but when they decided to knock it all down thats when everything started happening. I watched the progress because I lived right down the steet from the school. Everything that happened there was real but as for what goes on now I couldn’t tell you although I do vouch for the construction having to be put on hold because the workers were scared and that the machines were not working, and of course the man who died when a wall fell on him.

Pre-K in 1977 to 2nd grade at METZ then bused to Barrington. M-E-T-Z Metz is the best!Metz Cobra’s BLue and Gold, LOL. I remember going there like it was yesterday. That stairwell to the 3rd floor was SCARY. It was always so dark and COLD as HECK and I would always hear kids playing up there.I would always run by those stairs and not look up the stairwell because the one time I did I swore I saw something.OMGoodness and the girls bathrooms on the first floor was always super scary. I remember getting to school early to rehearse for the play and had to use the bathroom and freaked out because I could hear other kids in there but when I went in, no one was in there but me. My mom recently moved back to take care of my grandfather on Garden St and Anthony. Now that I think of it. My mom, dad, aunts, uncles, and brothers all went to Metz.

This happened at night time and at the front of the school is a tree that looks like a man is hugging a tree but his head is twisted as though he is the watchout. Drive by the school at anytime and chills go through you while sadness overcomes.Go on the play ground at night to be scared or just look at windows to see a boy just stare at you…their souls are stuck but they haunt even the grounds.MapQuest for directions but remember YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! i always find it insulting that people cannot type in proper grammer and english, sure if they’re eleven or 13 i can see that but older, good god people, go back to school, my grammer isn’t perfect, i’ll admit that, but atleast i try.

And Metz Elementary is real, i can believe that, why would it be on this website or on unsolved mysteries? Anyways! to those who got back together from school by visiting this sight, that’s awesome!

The school is located on Robert Martinez and willow st in east Austin Tx.I went there from kinder to 6th grade .I remember having an uneasy feeling all the time like if being watched, like someone was always there.I remember seeing those computers on like someone was using them .We could see right into those class room windows from my friends grandparents house on Canterberry St.Other than that it was fun mwt alot of good childhood friends most I STILL keep intouch with.

I attended Metz Elementary in 2001-2002..5th and 6 th grade . Instead of being in band class like I was supposed to I asked to help as office aid, so everyday from 2 to 3 I would be in the office with the principle and the other ppl well a couple of times I heard 2 secretarys talk about how they would leave stuff in one place and then latter find it somewhere else I never payd attention until I day after school I was helping on the cafeteria for a teachers talent show and I decided to use the restroom and the one next to the cafeteria was lockt so I had to go to the closest one wiych was like 2hallways down ,as I was walking I heard a wisper , I didn’t exactly hear what it sead .. so I keept on walking butt I was scared butt I also had to use the potty room when I turned around I felt someone or somenthing pull on my shirt . I was so scared I started running , I ran into one of the teachers and I told her and she sead oh Anna people are just used to it now .. so yup I believe and know there’s someone or somenthing in there I still live here in Austin butt when I drive by there I still remember and I get ghostbumps like I’m feeling it again …

Hi, it’s me again, after reading everyone’s comments I realize no one knows, that there was a fire in the auditorium in the 30’s that killed alot of kids… It was then that my mother told me it became haunted.. If you would like more information about that story please feel free to contact..

Bernadine says:

January 27, 2011, 4:38 am

Oh, I forgot to mention that the kids and teachers, that did not escape the fire… Was because, my mom said back when the school was first build, it was build with poor exiting… Apparently everyone was trying to escape through, two front doors only… Soo sad!!! I still remember the auditorium, beautiful but creepy, and having only two front doors, and no back door… Dose anyone else remember the auditorium, and if they ever put a back door???

P.S. (Correction) In my first comment I miss spelled happenings…
I hit send before I caught it. God Bless

Ok so how does anyone know that ghosts are real unless they came face to face with one SERIOUSLY??? Stop pretending unless u have actually witnessed it…. I havent so idk what to believe unless someday i do.. All of these stories can be real in some way or ABSOLUTELY FAKE bc all of these stories can have explanations yeah possibly they could have tried to hide this to the public or could have made this a big story for Fame and Fortune…. Think about that.. Unless u have witnessed it… Then thats different….. Jus saying

Excuse My Late Arrival Into The Deiscussion — Sorry To Say This, But For You None Believers, Metz Elementary In Austin, Tx Does Exist! I’ve Lived In Texas All My Life(28 yrs) And I’d Passed By There Several Times As A Child Due To The Fact That My Grandfather Lived Nearby. It Really Did Make YOu Have This Eerie Feeling About It. Me, My Cousins and My siblings Used To Play At The PlayGround Together. Very, Very, Creepy Place.

This story is very true. It was my grandfather who died there while attempting demolish the school when the brick wall collapsed and crushed him. His name was Otto Gutierrez and the accident happened not to long ago around 1991-93. We still have the original newspaper article and pictures of him. We even sued the media for making false statements in a film they made about the accident. The school is still there in East Austin and is still a public school. I went to school at Metz as a child in the original building. One day I asked my teacher to go to the restroom suing class. I was looking into the mirror and behind me towards the door way a boy my age was standing their. He was wearing a brown hat and blue clothing. He smiled and turned and disappeared. I would always hear laughing in the halls when I graduated from Metz I felt a sorrow from my leaving. I often think of them.

When was the original Metz school built? The one before when it was demolished in 1990? And, I’m curious, Why exactly would this school be haunted, how many kids actually died there?

ronnie says:

December 16, 2011, 9:25 pm

The school was real and so were the hauntings. My uncle was a janitor there and would work the late shift when somebody called in sick and I would go with him. I was 8 or 9 at the time and would here kids running around, talking in the classrooms or writing on the chalkboards. And everytime I would hear something I tried to run to see where it was coming from but never found anything. Bear in mind this was after school hours, between 8 and 10pm. I hear that even now you can hear kids playing on the tree the planted there in place of the demolished school.

I went there in kindergarten in the old Building to third grade I think .I remember we had to go to Webb Middle school while the new one was getting built .I never heard of a fire in the 30’s .This obviously was long before I was Born cause I am 28 and a 80’s Baby .But maybe this is why it is Haunted ? I am very intrested in Reaserching this claim…

Yes, this school is haunted. anyone who’s gone there knows this school is one that generations of families go to, i went and so did some of my aunts n cousins, and we each have had our own or collective experiences there. The neighborhood isnt bad and actually much of the neghborhood has had paranormal activity. i think it has something to do with the long line of families that have lived there, the spirits just dont want to leave something they love.

I went to that school from Kindergarten through fifth grade. 1970-76. There was a lot of creepy stuff. The Picture of the schools namesake eyes would follow you no matter where you stood. The Third floor was off limits becfause they said bats were in there. It was left dark and we often heard noises up there but we were told no one was up there and to ignore it. I knew that several of our teachers were shaken with the thought of having to go up there. One thing though. Everybody in that neighborhood loved that school! acroos the street on willow and anthony stood a house that stayed vacnt for more than 30 years. people would move in but then move out right away. They say that the house was haunted. I believe it! Growing up in that neighborhood i know of many strange things of the paranormal kind.

Hey Keisha you wanted to know more well the building was opened in 1916 and was open for about 8 decades and according to another website I visited it was decided that the building should be demolished in 1989 because it was too small to meet the needs of the surrounding area! And according to the book I’m reading that has this story in it the exorcism was performed by Elias Limon.

I went there with some friends one night during the demolition phase after hearing about people being pushed and books flying off the shelves. we did not hear any voices or kids running around but we did sit n one of the class rooms and tried to make ct. with any spirits using a quija board, in less that three seconds a small white ball of light shot into the room and my friends and I ran out of the school, jumped the perimeter fence and drove out of that place. im 44 years old and that was the strangest experience I have ever had. That property has active spirits and they are no joke. I do not recommend messing with spirit boards or going to that location.. was just trying to have fun but several days after that I heard a wall exploded on a worker, im so glad we were not injured.. I thought I would share.
