Real Haunted House

Metz Elementary School

Austin, Texas

When this school was demolished in 1990 there were numerous reports of strange occurrences. It is said the bulldozers would stop working just as they reached the century old building. Constantly, workers fell from ladders and tools disappeared. Workers also began reporting children’s writings on the blackboards and ghosts in the restrooms. Things got so bad that an exorcism was performed. Shortly afterwards, a wall inexplicably fell and killed a worker. Today there are still reports of restless child-ghosts at the site.

Anyone that says that Metz Elementary doesn’t exist or that it was never torn down is a f**king moron. I have lived in Austin almost all my life and I remember when this happened. The death of the worker was on the local news as well as in the Austin American Statesman (newspaper).

The original Metz Elementary was demolished in 1990 and the new Metz Elementary was constructed in 1991-1992 on the same site where the original buildings stood. If still need proof of this, You can find the new schools listing on the Austin Independent School District’s website:

The is a ton of BS stories on the internet but I can assure you that this one is very real.

What’s really scarey about this story are the comments. It appears that proper English and grammar are the real victims of the Austin school system. What a nightmare to see such illiteracy.

Well, I went to the old school before it was torn down and played on the old fire shoot. I never knew about it being haunted but I do have a very wierd memory in about the 2nd grade a little girl that I never saw again was motioning for me to go up into a storage closet that was never open. I still remember how awkward it was that she was telling me to come into that room she was dressed in a plaid dress and seemed nice but I did not know her. Well I did not follow her and told some of my other cousins who went to metz about it. We never saw her again but I can tell you that it is still with me till today how eerie it was. Yes it is true about the person dying when the place was being demolished and the people who were telling the story are well known and are not the type to play around like that. They are a family owned business anyways if you look up the news in the early 90’s you will get true testimonies of news reports of the incidents and work delays. Real place, I am not sure about all the hype and some people may add things but I know that a lot of my family have strange stories from the old building and there was generations and generations of my family who attended this school even now our younger generation still attends the new metz. Anyways just wanted to share a bit of my experience. My kids have attended this school and my daughter had the bathroom doors locked on her and the sink turn on she is still spooked out by that memory. Well I don’t belive in ghost but have seen some things that I do not understand. Thanks for reading my comment.

I also attended Metz first in kinder…and then 5th and 6th grade….I lived 2 blocks west of the school…I was very upset to hear that they were bulldozing it…Its funny cause i can still smell the school…i can still picture its layout in my head….and to be honest i have never loved any other place as i did Metz.. It holds countless of cherished memories for me…and im sure for many others…the whole haunted story is true…i wont get into it..but i know if you lived around that area..most of the elders would speak of it aswell….nonetheless the old Metz holds a very special place in my heart….
i would love to find a old picture of it…that is one reason i stumbled onto this site…if anyone has any info as to where i can obtain one it would be most appreciated…..and for anyone reading this i am 31 years old…my name is Rosalinda Rodriguez…..my kinder teacher was Mrs.Kilmain….and my 5th grade teather was Mr.Kirk…..i forget the rest…anyways…

I attended metz school in the 1960s.
I lived at 2203 willow street
I had many tramatic episodes as a child.
One occassion My sister saw a girl dressed in a long dress and she disappeared before our eyes.
Swings on the playground would swing see saws were going up and down, The merry go round would swing all for no reason no breeze.
I could hear children laughing and even see them playing on the playgrounds and as i approached them They would disappear.
errie things happened on our street, Wreaks and break ins. Nights were so evil.
It wasnt just the school that was haunted it was the entire block.
Onced As i slept I saw a man in a red suite run at me and i closed my eyes and said jesus and as he picked me up he flung me across the floor the next day thier were huge hoof prints in our yard.
Another time I saw a latern around midnight swinging back and forth in the middle of Willow street and a man was chanting ” Now hear this Texas John Slaughter is now dead”. I dont know whim he was but he must have lived on Willow street.
i am sixtie years old and I could talk all night about the errieness of Willow street, im glad dad sold the house, and the Ghosts in 1969.

My mother has owned the house that sits right across the street from Metz Elementary School ( 2201 Willow St. )since the late 50’s. I attended the school and expereinced some paranormal events back then and Now. I remember when the construction worker got killed and hearing little kids laughing and playing across the street in the middle of the night as the school laid in rubble. The whole neighborhood used to play behind the school on the old fire escape ( slide ), the basketball courts ,on the football field, and the infamous playground. On the weekends when the school was closed we used to see children looking out the windows, of coarse this did’nt happen all the time but when it did that was enough to keep us from hanging out at the school when the sun went down. We also used to see the crazy events that happened at the playground. I also believe that my mother’s house is haunted. I recently moved back in with my mother to help care for her in her elderly age and once again started seeing ( and hearing ) some crazy #@%!. For example seeing shadows moving across the dining room floor and hearing children playing ( in the middle of the night ). I know I live in the Eastside ( and proud of it ) but hearing kids playing at 3 am? Believe it or not I really don’t care but this area seems to have a few souls still roaming around, weather it be the kids who attended Metz or the Native Indians who once camped here next to the Colorado River. Metz Elementary is located Less than Half a mile north of Lady bird lake, aka Town lake, aka The Colorado River

Hello,

I went to Metz Elementary as a child and never experienced any paranormal activities at the school. I loved the school dearly. Rosalinda, I would have been in the same classes as you – in Mrs. Kilmain’s class – I am wearing the purple shirt that says “I Love My Mommy” in the school year photo of 82/83. I have only half a picture of the auditorium/cafeteria side of the school. Please let me know, if you would like a copy, I have spoken with many of my former classmates from Metz and none of them have any photo’s.

Hey Jaime, this is your cousin, hope you are well. All my love, B

I used to go to school there in the late 1980s.I lived 4 houses down from the school. I never experienced anything but I found that this old school gave me the creeps. There was rumors that a kid died falling from the 2nd story stairway. the downstair restrooms and audtorum were very creepy and the classrooms had these creepy backrooms that they used for storage. I visited the school 3 years ago was sad to see that it was replaced with a new one. Anyways no experiences but I think it was haunted.

The lady who went to Metz in the 60’s is right the whole neighborhood was creepy. I lived on Willow st 4 houses down from the school. Me and my mom used to hear foot steps on the hardwood floors in the middle of the night. One time I was playing kick the can with the neighbor kids at night and they had a driveway that went all the way to the back alley and my friend said that when she went to hide in the back that she say a little boy dressed in a suit. If that is true idk but thats what she said. And there was a fireshoot that was located in the back of the school the gym was also the cafateria the library was located upstairs, those restrooms downstairs were the creepiest I hated going in there. I was also upset to see that the pool and park that was down the street are no longer up and running. The neighborhood is a bad place then and now lots of crime and and break in. This shcool is real my father also attended it in the 1940’s. Go Metz Cobras
