Metz Elementary School
When this school was demolished in 1990 there were numerous reports of strange occurrences. It is said the bulldozers would stop working just as they reached the century old building. Constantly, workers fell from ladders and tools disappeared. Workers also began reporting children’s writings on the blackboards and ghosts in the restrooms. Things got so bad that an exorcism was performed. Shortly afterwards, a wall inexplicably fell and killed a worker. Today there are still reports of restless child-ghosts at the site.

I do believe that cu metz elem does exsist and on of my uncles use to work there years ago. he was one of te construction workers and he said he will never forget what happened. He also said that kids got killed in or by the walls . He would never go by the street were metz is . some people say they would see the merry go round thing would be turning and the kids would be playing . I heard that they had to have a tree blessed and removed from the grounds of metz elem cuz that is were the remains or the spirits would all gather,

Trust me folks, everything haunted about Metz Elementary is true. I am alma mater to this institution and I experienced several incidents there that will never be explained. The main reason is because the original structure was demolished and that’s where the “attic” existed. For those of you who also attended Metz, you know the attic that I’m writing about. Voices and movement in the attic was a common occurance but no one ever dared to walk up the stairs to darkness to find out what the cause was, not even janitorial staff. The attic was elevated very high into the “third floor” that didn’t even exist. It was a stairwell to nowhere. Looking at the building from the outside there were only two stories. No where in the architecture of this facility existed a third floor, but yet there was a stairwell that extened upwards into darkness. Several of us tried climbing up those steps, even the bravest(the cool fonz type guys) and no one could make it past 3 or 4 steps, because you got enveloped by darkness and cold and you would immediately turn and run back down. Take it from me people, this once grand old school, was and still maybe, home to a legacy of frieght and the unexplained. -Tony, class of 1975.

To Cristal. Sweetie, stay in school and practice the art of grammar and spelling. I would advise before and after school tutoring as well. Speak English. Proper English. God bless you and I’m sorry your school is so scary – wait until you get to Physics!

I was born and raised in Austin and lived there for 25 yrs and remember my dad telling me about Metz. He even took us there to see it when it was only half way demolished because of the phenomenons happening there. But I will not dare to go back there again unless it’s during the day and I am distant from it. You can believe it or not but I know what I saw when i was younger.

Greetings from a fellow Metz Elementary student. M-E-T-Z metz is the best…I too, grew up in East Austin and went to old Metz Elementary before the new one was built. I never experienced anything out of the ordinary but I did hear stories about Metz by those who lived in homes surrounding the school and I remember the episode of Unsolved Mysteries too. I was one of those “brave” kids who attempted to walk up to the “third” floor, but didn’t make it that far. I never understood where that staircase led to because from the outside it only looked as if the old Metz only had two stories. We were the neighborhood kids who used the fire escape as a super slide or the field to play baseball or kickball on the weekends. Was the old Metz school haunted? I guess it is yet to be determined. Thanks Barbara for the link.

I attened METZ before the new school was built. And I remember being so spooked out when I had to go to the bathroom down stairs. The voice of a little girl laughling and one of the doors closing by itself scared the **** out of me. Its something I will never forget. I recently had to go back to that school for a meeting for my son. He does not attend there. But going back to that school 20 odd years later. Still feels haunted! I have to admit the bathroom still looks and feels the same some parts have been remodeled. But the school is creppy.

Wow, I volunteer at this school two times a week and had no idea it is haunted. I’m going to ask the teachers if they have seen any things in the new building, and I think next time, I’m going to go to the bathroom to see if its as creepy as everyone says it is.

The teachers there told me that there are definitely ghost but its not scary cause they are just children.
They told me that if they stay late, they can hear children playing in the hall. Also, the cleaning lady told me about a trail of footprints of a baby (or at least very tiny) that led to a staircase but the weird part was that it was only one foot and not both feet making the trail. And another teacher also told me about a footprint from a baby (also just one foot) in her classroom.
And the cleaning lady also told me that one time when she was vacuuming after school, a little girl walked into the room wearing a bonnet and a white dress. She told the little girl, “Mija, what are you doing here. You missed your bus” but the girl just stood by her. Then the girl ran under a teacher’s desk and disappeared.
I don’t care what you believe but I definitely believe it coming from the teachers that work there everyday. And they said that the ghost activities happen more around Halloween, I guess because of the day of the dead.

Hello,
I went to the “old” Metz but honestly was only in pre-k-1st grade. I do remember all my teachers Mrs. Castanon, Mrs. Ramirez, and Mrs. Hart. I don’t remember the old Metz much I can only remember the hallways of the classrooms I needed to go to. And honestly don’t ever having a weird experience. While the new Metz was being built we went to some school called Webb. Anyway I returned back to Metz, and that’s when weird things started happening…Yvonne I think I know u (torrez?)…anyway I had the same experience of the water turning on and the toilet flushing on its own. But that just happened once. But there was several times when I would walk down the hallways by myself and I would get chills or a feeling like someone was watching me. I never saw an actual figure but did see things move. Its weird I never experienced anything at the old Metz…just at the new Metz.

I attended school at metz around 1962. My brother Charles and sisters all attended thier too.
I hold fond memories of that school sometimes I awaken from a nightmare
That Im there at that cold school and cant get out.
Many paranormal activities happend. My first grade teacher was Ms. Dingler
I also had a student teacher named Ms zigler.
I had blonde hair and green eyes, and didnt know much spanish but I made many friends.
I learned to speak spanish at Metz school.
At night our big house located across the street on the next block was eerie.
I hated nighttime to come.
Iv seen anyone from confederate soldiers to children laughing, and disapearing.
My other teachers names were Ms. Mole, Ms granthym and Ms. allen for six grade I had Mr Ybarra. Ms Giles worked in the library. Coach Cannel was our Pe instructor.
I remember all of them like yesterday.
But every night nearly we were awakened from freight, Many times people were trying to break in or we would be awakened to horror Like someone pulling up the window where I slept and no one being there.
Today I will not sleep by a window at night.
Im glad We sold that house after the sixth grade, and moved to North Austin.
Here is a peem I would like to share with you that was written by our sixth grade class with Mr Ybarra as teacher.
well I was tired of being a fool so one day I joined Metz school
Where girls and boys they, work and play from September through May
Uhuh they do we work and play all day
uh huh we do from Sept through May
teachers of grades one two and three they work with you and me
When they cant teach us anymore they send us to grade four
uh huh they do so we can learn some more
Uh huh they do they send us to grade four
After grade four than comes five and if you still survive
we learn more English, Science and Math or else they send us back
uh huh they will, we have to learn our math
uh huh we will or else they send us back
after grade five sixth grade remains and if we still have brains
we will wonder why we started Metz school and call ourselves a fool.

I live on the east side and have heard all the stories about Metz. My daughter told me a couple of years ago she took my granddaughter trick or treating they were walking past Metz she decided to stop and take pitcure with her digital camera. She told me that when took a look at it, there was a bright orb like light. I told her mabe it was a car light, she told me no there were no cars around when she took the pitcure. She got scared at left real fast.
