If you don’t have pictures, it’s just a fish story.

I have fished the river in Wilmington. I have heard some stories about a guy named “minnow bucket”. Many years ago I fished at nite for walleye.
An old man used to walk around and give advise to all the fisherman.
He was a local named Henry. He was sometimes lost in his own conversation. Mumbling on and on about nothing in perticular. As I look back at the time, you could say he was a bit frieghtning. The funny thing was, whenever Henry was around nobody ever caught fish.Even on a good nite,one could catch walleye after walleye. When Henry showed up, the fishing all but died.(No pun). Timeline was 1978-1979. I heard from a local business owner that Henry had passed away. I am guessing 1990. Thats all I know.

This is true, a boy named matt was buried alive. He was sick for five days and the doctor told the mother to stay calm and the boy died. He had died, people thought and was buried at the cemetery and the next day his mother had a dream that was, that matt was crying but he was 5 years old. So Matts mother hurried to the cemetery with her husband and dug up the coffin and when they opened the coffin matt was on his side.But when he was buried he was on his head, so the doctor started to whisker his lips and awhile he woke up.But Matt really really died in 1953 where he was 93 years old.

i saw him the other day i was loading up my boat to go catch some shrimp for dinnner when good ol’ minnow bucket stopped by for a chat. his actualy name is john canavan he was a fisherman who got decapitated in the late 1800’s. but boy he sure could crack a joke, he smelled of alcohol and gummy bears. boy i wish he would come over some time and have a cup of irish cofee boy that would be gay ol’ time

I went fishing one day, and it was really foggy, my dog was with me and minnow buckethead came, he was playing guitar so well, i said,
“hey lil b**ch, lick his ****, come on, come on now.” but then i was abducted by aliens and the fu**ked me in my bu*thole.

I don’t know anything about Minnow Bucket haunting any places, but I did know him personally and he was brutally murdered around 1984 by two carnival men who stayed behind when the annual carnival for Catfish days left. Minnow Bucket was a man who would give anything to anyone if only they asked. He held a strong belief in children getting an education, as the week before he was murdered he promised me that he would take me fishing and I told him that I would skip school to go with him and he told me no we would go on a saturday that I needed my education. I was about 12 when this happened.

Well i heard that something like that happened but it didnt happen in Wilmington…. I heard i happend in Oglesby, IL in a parking lot of Dollar General.. but it like just happened like a month or two ago!!!

My dad bought this house years after Minnowbucket was murdered. Years ago we put in new carpet. When we tore the old carpet up , there was blood stains all over the plywood on the ground. Also my dad never knew Minnow Bucket,but one day he came home and saw a man and a woman in his bedroom. He described the man and woman to our neighbor. Out neighbor said , the man he described was Minnow bucket. Growing up, during the summers,I always thought it was strange when it would be 90 degrees out and i would feel a very cold rush thru my body. Other times i heard very strange noises thru out the house.

James Andrew KNOWLES was January 28th, 1927 in Braidwood, Will County, Illinois. He was the fourth child and only son of James Knowles and Frances Weimer. He had older sisters. When he was about 5, his father hung himself.

As a child in Wilmington, James would skip school to go fishing. He got his nickname when at age 16 joined a poker game to earn enough money to buy a minnow bucket. He played and won every hand and he went and got his minnow bucket. Thereafter, his nickname was “Minnow Bucket.”

He graduated from Wilmington High School. He served in World War II in the Navy on the USS Birmingham in the South Pacific.

James married Laura Rosella SANDERS, daughter of Harry Sanders and Nancy Irene Green, on February 23rd, 1952. They were married by Pastor Robert Gordon of the Grace Methodist Church at 1002 Oakland in Joliet, Illinois.

They had two daughters together.

James worked as a union carpenter.

In 1969, James and Laura lived at Rt. 1, Box 202 A, Wilmington, IL.

In 1971, Laura committed suicide.

James was a fossil collector, master fisherman, mushroom hunter, and turtle collector. He was also an alcoholic and a gambler. He helped in the construction of the Minooka Grade School in Minooka, Grundy County, IL as well as the Bob Evans restaurant in Joliet, Will County, IL. He was a member of the Wilmington Masonic Temple, a card carrying “Hobie Hunter,” and a practical joker.

He was a member of the Bloomington Valley Scottish Rite, the Joliet Carpenters Union, the Wilmington VFW Post, the Wilmington American Legion and was past president of the Joliet Mineralogist Society.

He knew every part of the Kankakee River and lobbied for its preservation. He was the kind of a person who always went out of his way to help somebody and never asked for anything in return.

When there would be a bug or something crawling on him, he’d just push it away — he said God put everything on this earth for a reason. Everyone loved him.

On September 27, 1985, James was found bludgeoned to death in his home in Wilmington. He was buried in 1985 in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington, Will County, IL.

Idt this is true. i’ve lived in wilmington on the weekends since i was born. and i’ve walked the river bank at dark….. plus i’ve never heard this story. it totally isnt true unles u have evidence.

there was actually a bait shop in wilmington right by the park and the river. it was called the “minnow bucket” it did close about two years ago and was reopened as a pizza resturant about 6 months after. the pizza sucked.
