Real Haunted House

Mooney’s Mansion

Columbus, Ohio

During the 1950s, a couple lived in this mansion until the husband axed his wife to death and buried her in the woods surrounding the house. The statue of the woman that the husband had erected as a wedding gift when the two first married now appears to bleed–due to the ax wounds. The husband’s ghost is said to inhabit the upstairs bedroom in which the murder took place.

I have lived across from the so called ‘Mooney’s Mansion’ for all of my life and I am 36.
When I was a Child, I tried to investigate the House.
But it is not Haunted.
The story is just a Legend.
Now there are people living in there and half the things I have read on this page I am almost positive are made up.

Hello people…ok I went to the joe testa site and looked at transfer of this property..now I cant understand how a dead guy transfered his property over to his dead wife?? the home was purchased in 1944 by Derrie S and Derry J Mooney then in 1961 property was transfered over to just Derrie S. I’m guessing Derry died of natural causes or even could have been a divorce but In 1980 property was transfered over to Conaway. So I hate to burst everyones bubble but this whole story in Bunk. I bet ya the guy who started it is still getting a good belly laugh over it and bet ya he/she is a ghost themselves by now. As for those of you that claim you have seen ..heard things The mind is very POWERFUL if you believe something strong enough Your mind will make it happen.

It’s me again. It is true what they say about putting your car in neutral and shutting the engine off. One night me and my boyfrind was coming back from the post office there on High St. and we wanted to give it a try. We went around to Indianola and sit at the top of Walhalla. We turned the car off and put it in neutral. Now when you start down the hill you CAN NOT TAP YOUR BREAKS AT ALL *** you go down Walhalla. As you coast down Walhalla Rd. you’ll go no more than 20 – 25mph, you will slow down to about 10mph as you come upon Mooney’s Mansion but after you pass the bridge straight ahead, you will pick up speed again, even up the hills, untill you reach High St. The first time I done that I got freaked out but I enjoy it now and I’m not scared. Some say it’s Mooney’s daughters helping you down the road but I doubt it. I don’t know, it does sound weird because the whole road don’t go downhill. Email me sometime. Check it out for yourself. Don’t be afraid of on coming traffic because it’s a one way road. HAVE FUN!!!

After reading all of the postings I am pretty sure that the current owner of the house although annoyed at times is getting one hell of a kick out of living in a ‘haunted’ house. I have been down the street myself. It is eerie but I saw or felt nothing that supported the stories.

The legends of the Mooney Mansion are not true. I have researched the house and the legend. There are too many variations of the story. Located at 256 Walhalla Dr., it sits on the hill to the left, just before the Calumet bridge. Derry J, and Derrie S. Mooney occupied the house from 1944-1961 (the legend was supposed to have occured in the 1950’s). The house stayed unoccupied until 1973. The person who bought it in 1973 still owns it to this day. I somewhat believed in the legend until I walked down Walhalla and met with some OSU students who were down there filming a video. We thought that the house was a great place for a scene, so we proceeded to go up to the house. As we were standing just in front of the house, four flood lights came on. This is while the power was out not too long ago. Anyone that lives in North Columbus can vouch. The house was running on a generator. Anyway,we all fled down the hill leading down to the street. Nothing out of the ordinary happed!! DO NOT CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF!! PEOPLE DO LIVE THERE.

I went to High School not to far from there, we heard all the stories throughout high school. After a football game five of us climbed into a classmates car – a newer Cougar and decided to check it out. We pulled up under the bridge and my friend as a joke shut the car off. Thing was it wouldn’t start back up. We all took off running a couple hours later we went back at the direction of her father to get the car. It started right up and never had another problem. I think there is something not right about the area. Do not know which story if any are true. Still Creepy!!!

mooney mansion is real… back in the 90’s it almost like a cult. every halloween people would park all up and down the road to watch mr. mooney hang himself on the bridge.if you were truely at the house then you would know of the lion statues that cry blood. one of my husbands friends stole one of them and it is in his back yard and to this day it still cries blood.but beware when you go take a look the owners shoot!!!!

All I heard, is that a guy hung himself on the bridge down there, which sounds the most reasonable and true. I was just down in Walhalla today. And the mansion is Moony’s Mansion. They don’t give tours, someone owns the house, and they don’t like visitors.

i went there tonight and walked up to the statue and saw the arm moving i then proceeded to walk to the front of the house to walk down the driveway and to the car when 5 high powered light( like the spot light of a cop car) turned on making it as bright as day light after that i ran like hell and banged the **** out of there

So glad to have found this site! I used to drive my kids through the area and we were SURE we could see the bodies hanging off the Calumet Street bridge. Brought back a lot of memories.

I live on Walhalla Rd. (yes thats how you spell it) and I have known about that legend for years. I’ve snuck up to mooney mansion with my friends before. you see, there is an old man who lives there ( i dont know his name) and he is really creepy. He raises chickens in a coop and has a small pond with koi in it. I can’t remember if there’s a statue, but i do remember that there was a baby crib in the middle of the house (the doors were open)and he is EXTREMELY old, so that scared the heck out of me.

Walhalla rd wow this place is amazing. i go here prob once or twice a month sometimes more. i usually get a big group of people and we climb up one side of the bridge that is dark the side by the mansion and we sit there and takes pics and evps. the first time we went there the only thing we saw was the glowing blue light in the attic and heard sounds in the wood type area. the second time we went there we got amazing evps. then a few times after nothing then just like a month ago i got some of my roomies who dont beileve in hauntings to go out there with me and we saw a couple walking a dog down the street as we were headed back to the car and then once we got in the car and drove down the road not even a minute later they were gone and there was no where they could have gone then i went there again last week or two weeks ago and thought i saw a body or two hanging from the bridge and the water did not sound like it usually dose it was very creepy. if ur looking for a place to scare you this is that place on some nights try to go on a friday or saturday wen there is a full moon thats wen its best i have found well hope its scares u
