Real Haunted House

Motorcycle Crash

Oxford, Ohio

It is said that many years ago, a serial rapist was running rampant through the town. Late one night a car pulled up to one females house and started flashing the lights and honking the horn. Fearing that it was the rapist, the young lady called her beau to come and protect her. Hurriedly trying to reach his love, the man was killed trying to make a sharp turn on his motorcycle. Allegedly, if one goes to the site of the girls house and flashes his lights and honks his horn, the light of the motorcycle may be seen coming around the bend.

I live in Oxford and also work for the local Sheriff’s Department, this is a urban legen that has been passed down from year to year especially at Halloween. I have actually went to the site and watched for the light and have actually observed the light. But I have an idea about the source, if anyone would want to know….I would be willing to maybe give my opinion about the sightings……Or maybe one should just check it out for themselves…..or do you dare!?

I Have been to this site also.. But you do not have the story just right.Ive been there in the winter..The man supposedly wrecked into a child riding a bike..his girfriend would flash her lights 3 times so her boyfriend would know it was safe to come over..(havent heard about the honking) We flashed our lights 3 times..sure enough we saw the motorcycle lights… and a red reflector going in a circle.we video taped it only the white motercycle lights show up not the red one..so im curious why that is..I looked for spot lights,I looked for any explanation but i have not found one yet so if you have an idea please share….

i recently visited oxford and stayed w/ a family that that has been to the haunted spot many times. first i was skeptical, they said more houses were built so its harder to find a good place to park the car. we parked up more than the supposed “usual spot”. we blinked the lights 3 times and turned them off. sure enough and i kid u not, up the hill i witnessed a single red tail light. it lasted about 15 seconds. my friend got freaked out and we left, but i truely believe in this story.

Alright, between ’96-03 I dated a girl who attended Miami U. She told me about this several times before we went to check it out. I have seen the light at this location SEVERAL times. Anytime between 8:00pm and 4:00am. I’ve even seen it as dusk was just starting. I have also shown my mother, sisters, aunt, uncle, grandmother, co-workers, and co-workers families. If someone is faking this they are VERY dedicated, unlike many other “haunted” places, you don’t have to be at the place at any particular time of day/night or month/time etc. Also, I have a few antique motorcycles, and the light is consistant with the old lighting systems on bikes (dimmer and yellowish). The story varies, but I’ve had it show without doing anything (flashing my lights, etc.) Once I rode out there on my motorcycle, and the damn thing showed in my rear view mirror BEFORE I even turned around to park and wait. I’m not saying it’s a ghost, but I can’t explain it in any way that seems logical. I would love to hear any ideas! Also, the previous posts are right, the area is building up, and it’s harder to park out there without the cops moving you along. Also, I advise NO HONKING, you’ll just get the people who do live there madder, and chased off faster. Also, try not to go at the start of the school year. Seems every new student heads out there. The place looks like a broke down lane parking lot.

Sounds identical to a ghost story we have here in Ontario, Canada at Scugog Island.

I cannot post a link in this comment section, but if you do a web search on Ghost Road, Port Perry, Ontario you will find it.

Versions include:
In the 1950’s a young man by the name of Dan/Dave Sweeny was driving a motorcycle down a desolated road in Scugog Township, Ontario, Canada. He was driving at an excessive speed when he lost control, and was thrown into a field. Tragically poor Dan was killed when his head hit a large rock and he was decapitated. Since the time of the accident there has been reports of a phantom headlight which crosses the field, then turns left down the road where it vanishes into the night. It seems Dan is doomed to relive that last ride each night on Ghost road…..At least that’s how one story goes……

Also:
A motorcyclist killed while fleeing the father of his girlfriend, that he was decapitated by a fence instead of the rock, and that it was a snowmobile instead of a motorcycle.

There is nothing on record to substantiate these stories from Ontario as having actually happened. No accident report, no obituaries, news reports etc. I would be interested to find out if anyone has attempted to validate the stories from Ohio to see if they actually occurred as stated in the legend?

I am writing this post because I am somewhat skeptical about ghost, but after going to this location I think I may have been proven wrong. I and 4 friends were bored tonight and decided to check it out. We drove around forever to find the spot; we turn around where the supposed house where the girl lived went down the street and waited. The first time we tried it there was nothing so we decided to move down the road a little. After that we picked out spot, turned off all the lights in my car and flash the lights 3 times. After sitting there a while we saw a light in the distance and it began heading toward us. At that point I thought it was another group of people testing to see if it works but as I turn on my lights and headed down the road the light disappeared with no trace of anyone anywhere. The light was very bright and yellow. Two of the people I was with before said that they had done it before and the light actually will come up to your car till its out 20 feet away and as you look in your back window you can see tail lights driving away

In all of south west ohio the story goes like this: A man was going to vist his girlfriend and he would Flash his light three times to tell her that he was there and she would then climb out of her window and go to him. Well one night the mother and father caught wind of this and tryed to put a stop to it, well he saw him comeing down the road but the something happend he crashed and killed him self, so she then went to the family Barn and hung her self for she could not live with out her man. I have been there and regardless of the stories this really works. I have seen the light and then I have seen it go away. So what ever happend this is a freaky *** spot.

This is real, whatever it is. I saw it only once out of about 3 times I’ve been there, though. A bright, white light that filled the whole sky. It is NOT a car of any sort, this light had some power behind it. It was higher than the hills and came straight for us. I was so freaked out I started to head back to my car (we were all out of the car) but then it just disappeared. It happended about every 10-15 minutes. Scariest thing I ever saw because there was no explanation and it was not a car, there was no sound, either. Freaky. Location is: Turn onto Oxford Milford Road from Rt. 73. Go all the way down the road until it makes a 90 degree turn -can’t miss it- then turn around to face the way you came; pull up a little bit. Flash your lights 3 times at night.

I have been there and know lots of people who have as well. I was very skeptical, until I saw the lights as well. I think I actually read about this in one of the Hanted Ohio books. It’s really cool. I don’t know how it could be anything else, but haunted. We’ve seen it every time we’ve gone for years.

Yea Me my girls friend and 2 other buddys had herd this story about this head light that somes down the road and disapears from our older brothers. So we figured it would be fun to go that night since it was the night of friday the 13. Our brothers told us that the story was that along time a go a 17 year old girl and a 20 soemthing old guy was dateing and her parents didnt aprove so she would sneak out and they woudl meet at this old barn down the street. And that one night he was comeing to meet her and hit an animal on that road and wrecked and died. So they said if on the way ur there if we seen animals in the road then it would defently work and that we had to go to that barn and get out and walk back to it and touch it and then come back to the car and go around the corner and turn off the car and flash the head lights three times. We drove all the way up there and went to the barn at about 11pm then we all got out they was scared sh*tless i was lovin it so i was runnin to the barn that time we got about 10 foot from the barn and then everyone took off and left me there so i went back to the car and we went down the street and flashed the lights we sat there for a good 8 mins and nothing happend. so we went back to the barn this time aaron and mike got closer to the barn i could’nt cause my gf was to scared to get that close. then we went down the street agin and flashed the lights and sat there. My gf said look theres a red light. there was a red light that kept going back and forth across the road and then we seen what looked like someone going back and forth. then it disaperd and about 2 mins later a single headlight started comeing I still didnt belive it at first then it kept comein closer and closer then disaperd. we took off down the road and there was nothing there. It didnt get close enough for me so i made them turn around and go back. O and by the way on the way up there we alomst hit a dear crossing the road and 2 posems and a racoon. anyways we got back to the barn and everyone was freaking out. I wanted to go and actully touch the barn to see if that would make it get closer so i jumped out and noone would come with me so they just sat there in the car while i tried to talk them in to comeing wiht me then across the street something was in the corn feild goign threw it then all of a sudden we was looking a head down the path to the barn and a deer came out of the weeds stoped turned its head and staired at us. It was 11:55 at that time so we just jumped in to the car and when to the spot and flased our lights. we sat there and waited, agin there was the red light then soon after that there was the single light it got closer this time then we seen lights comeing from behind us so mike started the car and took off we hit about 70mph and the light was gone then the lights behind us turned out to be a cop Haha so he pulled us over and everything and we told him what we was doing and he never would tell us if he had seen it before but he let us go thank god and told us not to come back. one hell of a friday the 13th. I would have never belived it if i didnt see it so if you dont belive then go up there and try it. I just wish i knew the real story of what happended

I am a 30 year old married mother of one, so believe me when I say that I am way beyond “ghost stories”. With Halloween upon us, I told my son about the light and happened upon this website while trying to provide him with additional information on the story. I was a Miami University student in the mid to late ’90’s, and made more than one journey to this location. I have heard various stories and various theories as to why the light appears and what it could be (I was always told that the girl hung herself in the large tree in her front yard after her boyfriend’s death). I have tried for the past 10 years to somehow explain what I saw, as I generally discount most ghost stories as superstition or coincidence. The truth is, I saw it and remember it coming toward me vividly. It is hard not to believe when I read the accounts of other witnesses, whom I have never met, and they are so disturbingly similar to my own. If you are a true ghost hunter, I highly recommend you make a trip to Oxford.

I myself have been to this site with my husband friends and sisters, and in deed i think that this road is hunted by the young lover driving the motorcycle who was awaiting the flashing of his girlfriends bedroom window so they could have a little night cap, when she finally flashed her lights to started her way like many nights before this one was the same, or so he thought he rounded the bend and was struck by a semi- truck. if you go to his girlfriends house and flash your lights 3 times he will come unaware of his own death, and reliving the day he never reached his love.

I have been to this site several times. The first time I went I was with a few of my friends and we had heard this story from one of my friend’s older brothers. We took a video tape along with us and we turned around and parked in the spot where you are supposed to. We turned the car off..flashed the headlights 3 times..and a dim-yellow light headed towards us. We all freaked out and turned the car on to drive away and as soon as the car came on the light faded away. we drove off, turned around and decided to try again. We got back to the spot turned the car off and tried again. and again the yellow-dim light started to come towards us. Then it was joined by two bright white lights, which were headlights of another car far off, but then the car turned and the light was still there. We have this all on video tape. Another night I went with my boyfriend and one of his friends and we went and parked, flashed the lights and again the light appeared. My boyfriend and his friend were very interested in trying to figure out what this could be, we turned the car on and started driving towards the light. We saw the general area where the light was, so we drove there and stopped. My boyfriend and his friend got out of the car to investigate but they couldnt see anything that could cause this. We decided to go back and try another time. And once again it worked. As we started to head home we passed some people out in their driveway (it was about 11:30 at night on a Sunday) It was a woman with 3 kids. All of the lights in her house were turned off, the garage door was shut but her and the 3 kids were standing at the very edge of her driveway…just standing there. We decided to stop to see what they would say because we thought they might be responsible for doing the light, but we stopped to talk to them and the mom said that none of the story was true, so we figured if they were dedicated enough to do this all the time they wouldn’t just tell people that it didn’t work. We talked to this woman about 5 minutes. and she told us that most of the land out there is haunted. The hosue she lives in was built 5 years ago and is haunted, she proceeded to tell us many things about the house and land out there being haunted but I can’t remember it all. After we left and were driving home we were talking about how weird it was that these people were out in their driveway about 11:30 at night on a worknight with a few little kids (probably from 6-9 years old)All the lights in the hosue were off..keep in mind that these houses are probably 200 yards from the road. and as we were tlaking to the lady the kids didnt say one word. Normal kids would try to interrupt and tell their side of the ghost story..and we jsut thought it was odd that the kids didn;t say anything..could they have been ghosts themselves?

I am a full believer in the afterlife and the occult but I went there about a week ago and saw NOTHING! I was there with a friend who said that they saw it before so I was game (scared but game). I only saw other cars coming above and below the hills that we just drove on. My friend said that it was because the house that they usually had to use to turn around in their driveway was not there anymore. Anyone got any ideas? I would love to share in the experience.

It is true. I went there with 2 of my good friends when I was a freshman at Miami U. I’m sort of a believer in this kind of stuff but my two friends are definitely the scientific skeptical type. We drove out there flashed our headlights 3 times and sure enough a single headlight appeared in the distance coming up the hill. We were seriously freaked out and took off as fast as we could. We stopped once we turned off the road to see if it was just a car with a broken headlight and nothing came.

Directions to the light as we call it. I dont’ know where you live but the easiest way i know is to take 75 toward hamilton, then get on 129 and take that all the way through hamilton and the road will turn into 177 take 177 until you get to 73, turn right onto 73 take 73 until you get a farm with a white fence and a sign with a cow on it, turn right onto the road right after the farm take that all the way back. You will get to a bend in the road take the bend and on the right you will see a old metal gate, turn around in that driveway and go back around the bend stop on the third hill flash your lights 3 times and enjoy the ride, it really works I have probably been there 20 times.

I went to Miami in the 1990s. I had a van and we went out there at least six times. Several times it seemed like there was a light coming towards us. I think it may have something to do with the rolling hills of the road as it comes to the location, that is a car coming from the distance, two lights appear as one and flickering when it is headlights coming into and out of view with the hills. I never had the light get very close and had no experience with taillights or anything else. Did have some experience with the neighbors who must be exasperated. Be respectful.

January 9, 2008, 8:58 pm

I’ll preface this with the fact that I truly believe in the existence of ghosts. It’s a huge interest of mine and I research and attempt to experience the paranormal whenever I get the chance.

However…

The “light” on Oxford Milford road is nothing paranormal. It’s an illusion caused by the length and general rigid path of the road.

Turning off 73 onto Oxford Milford as you drive all the way down the hill to the turn around spot where most people park, notice how relatively straight the road stays with regular and small dips and hills in the road. The road also descends at a rather constant pace.

Notice about midway down the road the intersection and road crossing it. This intersection is another cause behind the illusion. Cars turning from this cross-road and going up the hill towards 73 (higher chance of going this way than down the hill, 73>The nothingness of down the hill) will appear as red lights flickering as the brake/tail lights show in the night, the flickering is caused by the slight hills and dips of the road. The visibility from a distance is due once again to the relative straightness and angle of the road.

Cars coming down the road from 73 to the intersection make up the “motorcycle headlight” part of the illusion. From such a distance the two rather predominant orbs of headlights appear as one single light, which gives the appearance of the motorcycle headlight. This also makes it seem closer as both lights are composing the one light. As the cars coming down from 73 to the intersection turn off, the light disappears, or the car continues down the road and eventually you will notice it’s a car that has appeared in the path of what seemed like a motorcycle.

If you have any questions or opposing opinions, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at fastpaws (at) gmail.com.

I live in oxford and have gone to this light. the first time i went with one other friend. we made it to the bend in the road but then a black figure passed in front of the reflectors. we freaked out and turned around immediatly. it looked like a person. i dunno maybe someone was walking but our headlights were right on it and it still looked like a shadow!! wwe went again with two other friends so we wouldnt freak out as fast. and we didnt see anything. so we just turned the car back on disappointed. but as soon as we did wwe saw a red tail light. it was going away from us so we tried following it but it just went away. i plan on going back cause i still want to see the light. but there are definatly other things going on

I live in oxford and I kept hearing about it so i did it one night with my boyfriend who lives on that road. We went and flashed our lights and sure enough we saw the light. The trees on my side of the car started to move. It was freaky. Then my boyfriend told me that he went into that barn where she had hung herself… the rope was still there! He took a picture of it and when he got back to his car.. the picture had erased on its own. The is also a heart with 666 carved into a wooden post. The house where she lived in has been torn down. But the barn still remains. Other stories that ive heard from friends is that when they did it, when they shut off their car .. it wouldnt start after they was ready to leave. And when the house was still up there would be lights on in the house.

I went there two years ago with my friends. The road itself is isolated and creepy. By the time we pulled up and began waiting for the light, I chickened out and closed my eyes. Yea, I was scared of a light.
They all claimed to see it. My friend let out a pretty convincing yelp, and she’s an awful actor. Hm. Who knows.

The story is wrong. You can look the accident up on the microfilm at the library. But the ghost is real. He came within twenty feet of me. It changed the way I think about everything. You can never go back to the person you were before you saw him.

I started going to see the light back in 1995 and still see it when I go…which is seldom now. It is as Real as Real can be. I have seen it a million times and was skeptical about it at first. One nite a bunch of us in high school went out there. We unloaded half of the group near where the light begins and the rest of us went up on the third hill and flashed our lights 3 times. We saw the light and they never did. So I know it is not hoaxed. Every time I think about it I get chills. This is the real deal.

Does anyone know when or what time this motorcycle accident took place? I am trying to get as much knowledge, precise location and time accuracy as possible. I have been to the bend recently, but not seen anything yet, so I’m not sure info is correct!!! It is a very HOT cop spot I take it?!

The urban legend varies a lot. In fact, the story that circulates on the internet is really far off what my impression of the phenomenon is. I don’t know when the accident occurred. The factual sources I have consulted don’t have any record of any accidents. A gentleman who has lived on the road for many years swears that there was no accident that he remembers. That being said, I have seen it. I have seen the tail lights of the car that hit him. Unfortunately, the only way to find any records is to have the name of the deceased, which we don’t have, since all the death records are accessed by name.

As far as the police go, I have to say that the best thing to do is be very respectful of the people that live there. Be quiet and don’t even think of littering or showing up drunk. Oh, and don’t go at Halloween or on a weekend. March is miserable, but no one else will be there.

When I get the opportunity, I am going to visit the records office and other sources of information. I will release the truth when I uncover it. Many people have tried and came up with nothing.

Hi my name is Falon, and I am the founder of Cincinnati Ohio Paranormal Investigators. My team and I went to this location. Also knows as the “Oxford light”.”Mike on the Bike”. The legend as I have always heard is of 2 lovers torn apart buy their parents. “Mike” who lived in the (now torn down) home just around the curve, went to pick his girlfriend up so they could run away together. You are supposed to park at the girl’s mailbox…flash your lights..wait…and you will see one headlight coming up the hill, and when you see the red break light-it’s time for you to leave. We have spent many hours looking for the light, and have succeed almost every time. People come from all over to see this. Sometimes you will even have to wait in line…literally. HOWEVER, as a paranormal research team, we went there one night trying to “debunk” this legend. After 4 hours…we did. The light you are seeing is nothing more than the headlight of a car from almost a mile away. (from a distance the 2 headlights blend together as one…giving you the illusion of a motorcycle light) This street is very long, and very straight. When you see the red break light, it is of a car turning…when they turn you are only able to see one side of the car’s break lights. I can go into more detail if needed-you can email me with any questions. =) So although it is quite amusing to hear the legend-and almost immediately see the light-things are not always whet they seem. Don’t waste your gas $ on this one folks. Thanks!

Yeah, I was born a paranormal researcher. What people don’t realise is that one doesn’t have to have to have any special training to be one. There is no license, but if you don’t get permission from the proper authorities to formally investigate, not only are you operating in a manner unbefitting of the honesty of the experiment, your investigation is not valid. I have been in contact with the proper authorities, and they don’t take this lightly. That being said, yes, you can see the headlights from other cars, but if that is all you saw, you did not see this ghost.

the glare of peoples headlights shine off the road and since there is hills it goes up and down and then sometimes there is no hill 4 awhile thats what makes it seem to disapeer!I tested it on tv!

I myself have been out there on a couple of occasions. The first time I was out there I was in high school with a group of friends. We seen the light and was freaked out and took off and then a car followed us and chased us getting really close to the back of the car and coming up beside the car the girl who was driving lost control and we wrecked the car drove off. The next time was myself and a boyfriend months later I had told him what happened to my friends and I and he was skeptical like most people. We did it once seen it. He was in shock so we went and did it again seen it again. We got down to 732 and turned right headed back into town and less than a mile down the road a deer ran out in front of us totalling his car. I have swore I would never go again and haven’t. It could just be a run of bad luck but both times I have went has involved an automobile accident. Something is weird about that place.

I have personally seen this first hand over 10 times. I used to take people up there to scare them and get good laughs but now one the residents has put a big spot light up because people had to go and be disrespectful and tear stuff up. Its no fun if you know the answer but i can tell you its no ghost. I did an experiment with 2 other buddies and proved the myth to be false. If you really must know the answer, its almost like an optical illusion. Down the road is a stop sign where Somerville road intersects with the road of the “haunted motorcycle light” or around here we just call it “the light”. Well, at the stop sign there is a large hill. Now, at night if you park at the “sweet spot” (like the 3rd mailbox from the turn) it looks like you cant see that hill after the stop sign. It looks like the hill right in front of you blocks the view when in reality it does not. Your eyes play tricks on you in the dark. I dropped my buddies off at the sweet spot and drove off. I came down the hill while talking to them on a cell phone, turned my lights off, turned them on, turned my brights on, they saw everything and verified that it was me. My vehicle was so far away that it looked like one light….hence the motorycle light legend. The light “magically” disappears because the stop sign at the bottom of the hill is out of view and they simply turn onto Sommerville road. The red light is somebody turning off of Sommerville road and going up the hill towards 73. I hate posting the “answer” to this riddle, it is a fun time and a fun local hand-me-down story. But the residents out there are afraid of somebody getting into an accident because they turn their headlights off and sit in the road in order to see “the light”. Plus some things got vandalized and most police will tell you its dangerous and to leave. Definitely used to be something to see, but since that spotlight got put up out there it really ruins the effect. I guess better safe than sorry. I’d much rather a fake ghost story than a sad tragic story of some kids sitting in a car with their headlights off and getting hit head on by somebody who didnt see them.

Me and a few of my guy friends have went out there several times to see the light. While we are waiting we usually play hide the weenie, its really fun if you know what I mean. The last time we were there was August 2010, it was just Paul and I this time, we were in his yellow VW bug with the top down and we took turns watching for the light while playing hide the weenie. We never did see the light but it was such a nice night so we stayed there and tried to help each other quench our burning desires. By the time we got dressed and left around 4am we were both drained (literally) and had sore bottoms.

I have witnessed this many times and tried to bust it by setting people at points in the road and have no explantion. Also if you go around the corner to turn around on your right will be an old dirt road with a barn. Pull down that road and look in the barn. A large number of people in my group have witnessed things in that barn that keep them from ever going back to that location. I have not personally been into the barn but I do know that when I am around the barn I have a very uncomfortable feeling and also have heard EVPs that people have done that keep me away from the barn.

I witnessed this back in the late 90’s many times. I do not believe in the excuses given because they simply can not be true. We went out there almost every evening for an entire summer. We took binoculars and watched it as well many times. Most nights the light was so bright that it would reflect in the hood of our vehicle! It was most definitely not a mile away or any of the other excuses I have read posted on here!! One evening we were driving to the sweet spot to sit and saw it approaching behind, was following us! We decided to stop in the road to see just how far it would come. In fact, I told the person I was with that I was not going to be able to sit there and he was going to have to get in the drivers seat for us to stay because it was scary!! We switched seats and it came VERY close and then suddenly just vanished off the side of the road not long before it reached us. We also did get a ticket one night eventually. It was a crazy summer, many people were coming. The last time we went it was a lot different and that has been years ago. My recollection was that the barn is gone now. At that time there were many houses that went on the market for sale!! If I had to guess at least 6 were back then!! My reason for writing on here is because I have been surfing and surfing. This was on a Ghost show documentary back then!! Tryin to remember the name of the show.. HELP?
