Real Haunted House

Nicholson’s Home

Washington, Louisiana

A former civil war hospital, this home served as the site of many amputations during the war. Today, an amputee haunts the house. However, he is a friendly apparition who simply walks around the house on his one leg.

I can still remember the first time i heard the story of this home . the man had lived in the Nicholson home and had spoke of a woman in a white dress and two little girls who played around in the bed room . of course I had reason to doubt these stories yet i would find my self staring at the home every time i passed but it wasn’t until later in life as an adult i came across this house again . like a bad memory it stayed stuck deep in the back of my head . say what you want but i had become obsessed with this house . i found my self on google reading every article possible on the home almost searching for an answer to what the question i’m still not sure . i would do just about anything to get in i’ve called the town asked locals locked my self down with research . I have knocked it down to Mrs. Nicholson’s past like that she was the first Louisiana Miss America. the house haunts me , my dreams and before you say that i am nuts i am quite positive i am not at one point i must admit i found my self asking the same questions . i thought if i could just get in maybe the obsession would stop but the son will NOT budge it’s almost as if he is scared of the house . I would love to talk to anyone who has had the chance to speak with the Mrs. , been in the home ,hell i would settle for the mail man to be honest

In response to Ross: You make it sound as if the house is on the bayou banks, it is about 1/2 a mile from the bayou. Most of what you say about the house (don’t know much about the stories) seems accurate. However the old woman who lived there was indeed Mrs. Nicholson. She was the first Miss Louisiana and she had a nude portrait of herself above her bed’s headboard. That saddle in the front parlor was covered in silver trim. I went there on a date. My date was a believer, I was not. Mrs. Nicholson told of the “helmet” that she never saw but plenty of others told her they’d seen under the house. My date and I went to have a look. She saw the “helmet”, I saw the 2 1/2 gallon bucket. That was my last date with that girl, guess she didn’t like truth over fantasy. Sadly, Mrs. Nicholson passed away. Her son, I was told just today (9/25/’11) by the town’s museum keeper, started to repair the place but has stopped.

9-28-2011 @ 03:45 am, I took the opportunity to visit this house after all the stories I’ve read. However, nothing sees out of the ordinary and I really didn’t expect anything to just jump out after me. I did walk around the house and noticed you can see under the it and appears someone has been digging in the ground. What they are looking for, Hmmmmm, no one knows. I attempted to look inside but was unable to and plan to return tomorrow and try again. I took several photo’s and in now wondering why they didn’t come out. Hmmmmmmm. I will try that again just to confirm it’s not my camera.

My sister and I went to see the house yesterday. It’s really getting run down, the windows are boarded up and it looks completely abandoned. Whoever owns it now is letting it fall apart. It’s really sad.
