Old Elerbe Road School
This former school was closed due to the disappearances of several people, one being a beloved janitor. When the children went to look for him, they too disappeared–one by one. All that remains is a building in which all the lockers have been knocked out; in their place is a mural of the grim reaper. At night, one may hear the screams of children and the sound of a school bell.

With all of the movie filming, you’d think someone would try to film there, even if its a low budget movie. I know the place is a wreck and pretty dangerous, but it would still be a great setting

I’ve been out there plenty of times before and while it is very, very creepy, nothing “paranormal” has happened. I recommend going out there during the day, just because you can see everything clearly and really experience it. There is a construction site that has appeared recently right across the street, so I always park there. Going in you may see shotgun shells and bullet holes. Many people say it is because Farmer John shoots at anybody that trespasses. While he does shoot, he only shoots sand pellets that get under your skin and stings really bad for awhile. It has not happened to me, but it has to my friend. You’ll see a lot of graffiti, alot of them demonic and telling you to go ahead and turn around now. It kind of gives the school and eerie feel. Whenever you get to the main hallway, there are hallways that lead into classrooms on your left and right. Those to me are the scariest because they are the darkest and you never know whats in the classrooms ahead of you or behind you. Its creepy to see the chalkboards still up because it is a reminder of what this place had once been. The main hallway also leads to the auditorium and gym. One time, a friend and I went into the gym, where the basketball goals are still upstanding and bleachers are somewhat visible and standing, and a huge white owl flew out from behind the basketball goals. It was kind of creepy, but nothing to special. There is the locker room, which is pretty scary as well. All the lockers are overturned, broken, or open, and is a reminder as well that this place used to be a school. The first time I went about five or six years ago and there was a cow hanging at the end of the main hallway. They have since removed it and the last time I went, there were no cows. We also went into the circuit room, which is to the left I think when you reach the end of the hallway. You have to walk through alot of brush and there is not an easy way to get down to it so be careful. Theres nothing special in that room except for the remains of what used to be a control room along with a lot of graffiti. Unless you’re just super curious and cannot stand not going, I would not recommend wasting your time to see it. I’ve never been to the water tower, but there are people who go and climb it. Thats something else I wouldn’t do because its all rusted up and looks really dangerous. But supposedly if you look down when you get to the top, you can see the way you’ll die. Cops do go around there a lot because it is a hot-spot in Shreveport for teens. They will make you leave but I’ve never heard of anybody getting arrested for being there. There are a bunch of sketchy people that go out there to perform sadistic type rituals, so I wouldn’t go if there was another car there or at night. I wouldn’t call Ellerbe Road School dangerous, but I would take a lot of precautions while going out there and take at least a couple of other people out there with you. While I’m not so sure about the story, I have looked it up and read about it on a legit looking website. According to it, the school was shut down due to lack of funds. But I have heard stories that the janitor went missing and the kids went to go find him. When they eventually did, the janitor either herded them into the gym or the locker room and lit them on fire. There was another story that said that the school caught on fire and some children did not escape. None of those are true except for the first because it was first George Washington Carver School where it was originally all black and then integrated. Due to lack of enrollment and lack of funds, it shut down and then a college related to The Baptist Tabernacle opened. It shut down as well due to lack of funding. So there you have the real story! Anybody that goes out there, be careful but have fun!

So yeah Im glad to see the charmed one gone as well since he was in no way charming. There is no need to be so rude to people trying to have fun and spread around fun scary stories.
Ive been to Ellerbe School twice in my teenage years. I dont know about haunted, but it’s definitely a trip to experience. Very run down, very spooky. But I was mostly scared of being busted by the cops. Im a pansy and do NOT want to get arrested! Though our second trip there after being inside the school for only 10 minutes we saw a great beam of light shining and knew we were caught. We trecked back up to our car to meet the cop waiting for us. We didnt get into trouble, i think he rather enjoyed trying to scare us though. Warning about coyotes and even making a ‘call’ to them! Seriously, this cop must have been bored. He ran all our information and luckily we were all clean so he let us go.
But I have to say, SERIOUSLY that i have driven by Ellerbe school AT LEAST 400 times. AT LEAST. It’s a wonderful drive for… enjoying… a high state of mind. lol, for lack of a better and less blunt way of saying things. But really, HUNDREDS of times. Drake Ive been stopped at those crossroads at every time of day and night and never once experienced anything supernatural. Not saying it’s bogus, but it seems that with the amount of times i was there i would have noticed SOMETHING. Also never saw anything creepy around the school while driving by at night. Maybe a red moon every now and then, but big whoop.
Ive been to The Pea Farm once a few years ago with a group of friends and plan to go back sometime. It was really very interesting. VERY creepy just bc of all the small rooms that anyone could be lurking in. Ive heard the women’s pen located further back in the woods is the actual haunted site, but who’s to know for sure? Ive never even seen it. But I hope to. Again though being 23 now, I really dont want tresspassing on my clean record.
I see all these people with claims of pictures of orbs and clowns and dark figures but no one has yet to give info on a location we can view them!! I really am interested in any spooky pics. I do believe in ghosts, but I guess the skeptic/terrified part of me tries to deny it lol.
Lastly, my boyfriend’s mom just told me the other day about going out to Scottsville Texas (at least i think it’s Scottsville, i could be wrong, I’ll find out) to a cemetery there that really has activity. Though all she told me was to watch the angel as you go in and as you leave. She has seen the angel with arms crossed, arms raised, NO ARMS, arms behind her back… But this lady, I think, has this kind of activity drawn to her. She told me many other encounters she had that scared me to death.
But yes, please, anyone that takes some time to send out some pictures or a link to some about ellerbe, would be very cool!
Thanks guys. happy ghost hunting!

Jessica it is true someone does own the property but as far as it being haunted this is not true. i have been twice and the only thing that has scared me was a bird fying out of a light fixture in the gym. yeah there is blood and you will see bones of dead animals. as far as it being haunted i dont think so. no bells no screams.

Jessica, I’m 51 years old and have been ghost hunting for MANY years, way before TAPS, or any other ghost hunter groups. Back then, if you said you believed in ghosts, people wouldn’t even talk to you any more.
It’s been quite some time since we saw the apparition at the Crossroads. The hanging tree that stood there is long since gone and now they’ve even torn down the next to the last building of the old town, the King Solomon Church. They even cut the huge Sycamore tree down as well. Like I said about the crossroads, you had to sit there for hours and even then, you may not see anything. That’s what ghost hunting is all about. They don’t appear on que, you gotta wait ‘em out. They didn’t plant corn there this year. Corn always seems to attract more apparitions for some reason. There’s a roadside memorial now right there where you park . I guess someone else bought the farm at the crossroads. Could be another haunting there now along with the other one.

I have been there, and yes there is something going on! But all the “lore” on the internet is basically completely false! Our investigation continues….but the real story is much more mundane!

Myself and a couple of military buddies of mine visited the old Ellerbe School last night. About 50 yards away from the school lives an old man who currently resides in an old truck bed trailer with a generator powering 2 overhead floodlights. Upon parking a good distance away from the school, the man confronted us and told us that if we were planning on entering the school, that he strongly suggested not to. He told us that the stories of the hauntings were not true, and that the school was never even used due to aspestos. We knew right off the bat that his story didnt add up. So we got back in the truck, cracking jokes about the old man, joking that he must be the old janitor from the school, and parked further down the road. We then headed back towards the school jumping the fences and entering the building. Initially the walk through the school was almost impossible, due to the abundance of waste and garbage that inhabit the floor of the main hallway. However at one point we heard slow paced footsteps coming towards us. So we quickly turned off our flashlights and ducked by the wall. When the footsteps pace began to pick up, we all voted to head back to the truck.

Me and Ben from Cenla will probably go back to the school this fall, if it’s still there. I also heard, and posted here, that the owner plans on tearing it down but the asbestos will require HAZMAT protection and will be costly so I bet he just let’s it rot to the ground. It’s almost completely covered by trees and vines. I went by there a month or so ago and there were oilfield trucks parked all over where the circle drive used to be. They were even up on the dirt the man dumped on the drive to keep people out. It would be very easy to get in there now. Just don’t park anywhere, have someone drop you off and pick you up.
