Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Old Farmhouse

Smyrna, Tennessee

Long ago, a doctor and his wife lived in the farmhouse. Tragically the wife fell ill and her husband vowed to take care of her. The woman died, however. Devastated, the doctor hanged himself. It is said that on some nights one may see a man in a white laboratory coat walking around the grounds of the farm.

I live in a house that was built in 1946. An old man died in it in the 60′s. I moved there in 1978. I immediately felt like someone was standing behind me.Watching over me. At least 15 people have been in the basement with me when the upstairs door was locked and heard footsteps across the upstairs floor. I experience hearing someone running down my stairs during the day. My assistant has heard that also. I have often felt a hand on my shoulder as I worked and she has also. I sense it is fairly benevolent. Watching over us during the day. I don’t experience any noises at night tho.

Tina your home sounds alot like the one i grew up in. But we moved into the house in 76, and my parents sold in 95, there was a basement there also. Even after i had been moved out for yrs. I would visit and have experiences. I also have a couple of pics showing mist around family members at holidays. There was 10 acres of land also. With lots of history on it. and yes, we grew up with the monkey woman bridge story, and went there as a teenager,. but the fate sanders one is new to me.

Mick…I would not mind if you did some evp work at my house but my husband says nooooo. He does not believe in anything paranormal and he always has an explanation for everything. I’m sorry.

Monkey woman bridge is still there .There are a row of new house right next to the road…Almaville rd. then a small paved road goes off into a wooded area. I tried to follow it but a man in one of the houses came outside and waved his arms at me.So I abandoned my adventure. But I think the old metal one lane bridge is still there.

Just incase anyone is interested, the is a cemetary in Smyrna, I THINK it’s called Maple or something. Anyway, it is in the middle of Smyrna just past the rotary soccer park. My family and I went one night with a digital recorder. We were talking and asking questions. My daughter walked on a different path than us and suddenly came running back. On the middle of the road (not near any trees or anything) we watched scrathes form on her upper arm. When we got home, we listened to the recorder. As we were walking past a fresh grave, on the recorder we heard other voices. It was really cool.

What about stonesriver do you want to talk about i know there is alot of pass here but most of the stonesriver area where the war took part is owned by the battlefield an your not going to get in there at night unless you pay one of the people that works there to take you on a night tour unless your willing to take a chance on getting busted for tresspassing but there is a book out there that has the top ten places haunted in tenn an the battlefield is on there….

I am a historic fanatic and have been working on a short history of Smyrna TN. In looking up families and areas of interest, I have come across many family cemeteries as well as stories of hauntings. I’ve also worked with a small group of individuals who have traveled the areas looking into paranormal activities. I’ve had numerous occurrences on the Monkey Woman bridge, Stones River National Battlefield, Fate Sanders, the farm house area (prior to 1991), and the Sam Davis Home. The worst places of hauntings have been documented along Murfreesboro square in the courthouses as well as the houses that have been around since before the civil war. Not to mention the cemetery near the old Murfreesboro hospital. My next project, once I am done with the Smyrna history, is a book of hauntings in the Rutherford County area.

I lived in Smyrna at one time and in Rutherford county most of my life, but this is the first time I heard of this story. Interesting. I also think they should put Stones River Battlefield in the Tennessee section here. I always heard stuff about the soldiers and other ghosts out there.

It is located on the left at the intersection of Sam ridely and Blair rd. I would recommend walking up the drive way, for it is rather steep. Not to mention the house is private property and the family of the doctor own it so of you get caught they will ask you to leave. I went up there one night with a friend. The house is very aged no maintenance and is missing the front door.
