Old Trinity Church
Behind the graveyard is a small path that leads to a cross-shaped clearing. The animals that make this clearing their home are thought to be possessed–so is the church. Allegedly the serial killer, Mike Ross, buried his victims behind the church and in blood wrote, “I love little girls.” These women are thought to be the cause of the paranormal activity that exists there today.

okay so when my dad was a teen him and some friends found manholes in the back of the church that had crosses on them..he said that when they went down in them to explore it led to the inside of the church, and i think he said an old cabin or shed in the woods..they thought that these were probly used for the underground railroad..so i just thought that someone who may want to go search for ghosts might want to know that..i dont know if they manholes are still accsessable or not though.

It was considered haunted way before Michael Ross.. The word I heard as a kid was that it was due to all the drowned witches (there used to be a pond on the way to the cross). Haven’t been there in years, but it used to be quite the place to hang out back in the day…

I went there a few times in the late seventies and early 80′s we would go there at night and walk through the church yard there was an old tree behind the church it had a large branch on it that looked like rope marks where they say witches or people that would hide in the underground railroad would be hung behind the church. if you continue up the hill through the pine tree path there would be a crossing at the top of the hill.it looked like a cross from above. there were lots of clay ponds on the other side of the hill from the old clay pits they said to us if the moon was right and the time of night was right you could see people hanging from the tree. Someone told me not long ago the tree is gone I,m not sure. Michael ross lived not fare from there his family had an egg farm across from the brooklyn fair gounds not far from the church. there are also stories that in the late 70′ billy joel lived just down the road from there. I lived my summers at big valley campground and foxtail campground. We had fun times getting in the back of the pickup and bringing new friends over to the church on a hot summers night. everyone always had some kind of halucinagen. Dave

Wow!!! I just dicovered this site and I must say there are a lot of myths here. So listen up, I grew up, I grew up near the church. NOT my friend of a friend of a friends relative…. There is a tunnel from the church to the southwest to a large (Yellow) house on the west side of Church Street. I can not recall the distance but it is quite a ways underground. Don’t know if the house is still there but in the late 70′s the family that purchased the home did a re-model job and found letters from Susan B. Anthony and also discovered the tunnel…..
As for the old Trinity Church, there are and were a ton of myths. NOTHING ever proven. There was an old house to the north on the same side of Church street that an elderly lady lived in. She kept a dim light on all night in an upper front window and would occasionally be staring out(creepy to say the least) and had dogs that would chase you if you were walking by or riding a bicycle during the daytime. When the old lady passed, my best friend’s parents bought and renovated the home into a beautiful house. It was somewhat creepy to be in the same house as the elderly lady lived but at the same time there was a suspicious atmosphere wondering if she was witchy. Back to the old Trinity Church. The small pond directly behind the church was rumored to be a burial for slaves NOT witches. My how time changes rumors…. Also it is true that if you flew over the church the rows of trees DID form a cross. I don’t know if the trees are still standing and if they are must be very old now. I have been there more than the posts on this site and must say it is creepy but nothing more.!!!!
If you ever get a chance to visit the church, do so. Great history

ME AGAIN.. I went to school with the entire Ross family my entire life since Elemenatry School. This was a very nice and respectable family and Michael was an A student including High School. It is very sad what changed him from within.

I know Michael Ross, he was a couple of yrs older me and I knew one of the girls he killed, and he did bury them behind the church on the grounds. I have heard many things over the yrs. about this place, but don’t try visit at night, the police do patrol the area, especially around Halloween.

Michael Ross did not bury any of his victims behind the church. The closest victim was buried a quarter mile down the road. My neighbor was on of the jury members during Ross’s trial and she kept everything..including news paper clippings. The only thing he did with old trinity was write “I love little girls” on a tree in the back. Other than that everything else is false.

Thank you Meg.
Don’t know who Carolyn is but she is not well informed. As you said, Michael Ross DID NOT bury any victims behind the church. Sara, you should post your photos to a site like Photobucket and let everyone see them by posting the photo site here.

I have been to this location many, many times and believe it to have not only great history but something more to it. The “legend” of Michael Ross is true in that he did place a girls’ body in the pond just behind the stone wall, located behind the church. He did not write “I love little girls” on the wall or tree but in reality, it was located on the church itself, on the left side of it, between the 2nd and 3rd windows there. Of course, it was repainted afterwards but if you got here and look, you can still faintly see it there. Also, the overall feeling of the location helps to boost claims of paranormal activity. while in my investigations there, I have not experienced anything out of the norm but definately believe alot of negative energy is there and it holds alot to be discovered. I am actually going back this spring to re-investigate the location and do further research on it. I’ll post all the pictures, EVPs, and videos I can on here for you all to see.

Well Michael, please show us a police report that proves a female was put in the pond. As you say it is a legend. Did you know Michael? I say not. I did know him and his entire family. Michael was a very intelligent individual as well as his next younger sister. But he did not put any body in the pond.

My neighbor was on the jury during Ross’s trial. It’s true Ross was very intelligent and an A student..I’ve seen his transcrits. However there was in no way shape or form a girls body buried on the churches property. The girl was found a half mile down the road. So please do some research before you say a legend is true..especially when its not.

Thanks MVK. I hope Mr. Carroll reads this because there is NO proof of a body at the church. Remember though, your neighbor was on the jury.

you said his family was respectable, but wasn’t his mother institutionalized at Norwich State, and didn’t she beat and abuse her children, Micheal the worst. I also heard that he was possibly molested by his uncle. I don’t really think that qualifies as respectable.
But anyways do you know if the old chicken farm is still existent? I think it would eb neat just to drive by and see it.

I don’t know if the farm is still around. I will see for you though. Yes his parents were abusive but what I meant was the children. Does everyone realize that Michael and his siblings excelled throughout school? Does this make him an innocent man, no but they were all very intelligent.

I went to Old Trinity Church…The whole place has an eerie feel around it…I was walking by the pond and something made me just stop and stare into the water…I don’t want to revisit what happened there…but I’ll never go back again!!!
