Real Haunted House

Old Trinity Church

Brooklyn, Connecticut

Behind the graveyard is a small path that leads to a cross-shaped clearing. The animals that make this clearing their home are thought to be possessed–so is the church. Allegedly the serial killer, Mike Ross, buried his victims behind the church and in blood wrote, “I love little girls.” These women are thought to be the cause of the paranormal activity that exists there today.

The Michael Ross connection is false. At least one body was found at the far end of the field across the street – about 1/2 mile away to the north west.

The church itself is a beautiful old building – not one you’d call inherently spooky. But it is surrounded by graves and above-ground crypts running back to pre-Revolution dates and there is indeed a thicket of dark old hemlocks that form a cross-shaped path. Taken as a whole, you can see why people tend to assume that there are creepy supernatural things afoot – the site is pretty much a haunting stereotype. I’m pretty confident that the general sense of unease people feel is just the setting triggering some basic fears.

As for actual “sightings”, the most common report is apparitions in the windows. One look at those windows in the daylight gives a very logical explanation. The glass is all original. After more than 200 years, it has become very irregular (glass is, after all, technically a liquid). It will distort any reflection significantly. I have personally seen what headlights of passing cars can do and if you’re already wrapped up in the legends and creeped out, I can see where you might be fooled – I’m on the skeptical side of curious and it stood my hair on end the first time.

If you want to get beyond paranormal and get into real, cool facts: There is a tunnel below the church. Now sealed, it reportedly ran from the church to a home about 1/4 mile to the south west on Church street and was used as part of the Underground Railroad. Take this for what it is worth, but the home belonged to a friend of my brother, who confirmed that there was indeed a tunnel was passable all the way to the church until it collapsed when Church street was paved in the 1940s. My brother says he was shown a circular area in the home’s stone foundation that had been sealed with brick. The Underground Railroad connection is supported by very old graffiti carved into the wood on the upper balcony – confirmed by a member of the Brooklyn Historical Society as being carved by escaped slaves that used the church as a way-station on their trip to Canada.

To me, that’s way better than ghosts.

I have been going to Old Trinity since I was a child and the facts in this article couldn’t be more wrong. There was one victim of Ross left near Old Trinity, not on the grounds, ppl saying several were killed there need to get their facts straight.I knew the victim will not post the name out of respect. The place isn’t haunted in my opinion been inside the church and all over the grounds. The tunnel in the basement is caved in and has been since i went in there 30 years ago.

Creepy? Yes. But Haunted? Load of ****. People in this corner of the state are so bored that they love to make **** up. And many people are gullible enough to beleive it. Just like Gravity Hill and Maude’s Grave. NOT HAUNTED. I LIVED in a haunted house as a matter of fact and it is true that MOST places that are TRULY haunted are privately owned. Now Norwich Hospital Campus? Yeah…..I beleive that one.

lets put the rumors to rest about micheal ross burying one of the girls there behind the church.in 2004 i worked with one of te state police detectives who worked as an assistant to the lead detective on the case,he told me intimate details about the case,he said they had micheal ross bring them to the exact place where he buried the body of the female.the lead detective asked micheal to show him where he buried her and he said”right about there” pointing to a stonewall with brush around the frount of the wall.the detectives then got tools to dig and remove and cut the brush down, the detective that told me this said they found her body in less than 5 minutes.this detective retired in early 2004 as a major of the conneticut state police ,he told me it still haunts him to this day.so again there was no bodys of micheal ross’s victims behind the church.the body was found down the road.
