Old Zane Mansion
This mansion is located on the site of an old cemetery. Constantly, the town and cemetery were being flooded, thus they were both moved to another location. When the coffins were moved, it is said that Hannah Zane�s was empty. The house, which used to be an occult and a bordello, is now said to be haunted by Hannah.. There have been reports of her walking up and down the halls and dancing in the living room. There have also been reports of a small child staring out of the window on the stairwell. Others have alleged being able to feel on woman�s hand rubbing on their shoulder only to turn around and find no one there.
I am the one who has submitted this story to the internet, My Husband was the one who lived in the house and who had felt who he believes to be “Hannah” touching him and he had watched her dance around and she had also saved him from another furious spirit who remains in the house. The House is now comdemned and may be torn down soon. But on out recent visit to the house, a neighbor witnessed strange happenings with in the dwelling.

A friend and i had searched the internet for haunted places and seen there was one located in the city we live in. We looked for 3yrs to find that it’s possible location is on S third street. We are going to investigate further on this house…it looks scary. We are going to take pics of it soon. Can you tell me…if this is the correct street?

Helga I have pics of a house believed to be the Old Zane Mansion in Martins Ferry, Ohio. I went yesterday a couple times and took pics inside and out. I uploaded the pics to my PC and caught some images of what seems to be a few ppl watching me out windows and a pic of a face looking out of a fireplace. I once lived in that house..That’s where I met my husband. My daughter, Rachelle and I lived there in 1994 for almost a year. My husband lived in the apartment down the hall from me. I lived in te one upstairs to the left. I don’t recall having any problems there but my sister said that I use to complain about noises all night long. I don;t realy remember…I had a slum landlord so i probably thought that it was just the neighbors…anyways I’m glad I moved there because thats where I fell in love with my husband.

Me and a couple of my friends been in that house and it is very spooky..We also took some pictures of the outside window with my camra and we noticed in the upper right window i figure of a little girl looking out the window we all got frightened and didnt return to that house o = lol

Hi everyone I am the orginal person who submitted this story and I have read all your post’s and I would love to see all the photo’s. I too Have photo’s of the lil girl in the window and you can also see a young boy or man looking out the 2nd story window..and i know i seen someone post a message about the fireplace well i used to dream about that fireplace and it always had children coming out of it!

Georgette its right across the street from the Church.. you can not miss it because its all run down and destroyed with no thanx to the squadder’s that lived in it and destroyed it.. I really wish there could be a way to save that house and get it fixed up with or without the haunting’s

I would Love to see T.A.P.S go there to investigate but I don’t think they would beable to handle it and they would probly run out real quick..
Especially with all the negetivity they bring in with their investigation’s (back stabbing and all) they would be easy prey for the one spirit that I have encountered there who isn’t so nice and he does Truelly touch you as he did with me and my husband..
this house isn’t a joke.. it is truelly alive.

I rode past that house a few times, And I saw a Shadowy figure standing by the Mansion everytime I ride past there my mom saw it a couple times too. Also I saw some kids walking by the house And the shadowy women like figure Walking right behind them then I blinked then she vanished.

We went back to the mansion about a month and half ago after my fiance’s bands show that they had up there. we had three other friend’s with us and we just walked into the front door and into Apt #1 and two of my friends started screaming and ran out yelling that they saw the tall dark figure that my fiance was haunted by when he lived in the mansion.
The female that Jake stanley posted about is “Hannah” she look’s out for the children, one is a boy and one is a girl, the children’s death is somehow connected to that house, I Think they were either buried on the land when it was indeed a cementary or they drowned in the flood back in the 1800’s. I forgot the story surrounding their deaths went but my fiance’s ex wife knows the hisorty and & the children’s names.
she & my fiance did an investigation when they were together and my fiance did he own investigation when he was going through the haunting’s in the mansion.

well we live in martins ferry and there are soo many rumors about that house that it is haunted and whatever soo one day britt went there with some of her friends and she said that she had seen a face sittin in the fireplace,.. and a little girl and her dad standin in the big window downstairs,. and then in the basement she said that she heard noises.,, and the dark door upstairs slams after you enter the room and you cannot open it from the inside,. then my grandmother used to live in wane l hanes towers,. and we would always look out the window and there would be lights on and there wasnt anyone livin there at the time,. then when people lived there this one couple had rot whilers and they would run up and down the hallways scratchin the walls and doors but when you took them outside they would be fine,. this is honestly true and is in no way a lie so if anyone says that it is they should get in contact with us and we will take them the way we know,..
oh and in the attick there are old pictures and stuff but you have to be careful when you go up there cause the steps are fallin in,. and when its dark you can see shadowy figures walk through the house,. and the dad, mom , and daughter will walk with you when you walk past the house but they dont cross the street or anything just to the corner,.

I talked to a the city historian and he said that it isn’t located in ferry.he said that is at zanesville,ohio but if he is wrong can sombody e-mail me (zacer@myway.com)and tell me what street it’s on.becouse I live in ferry just wanna know where it’s located.

My mother and I went to visit this house that we heard was haunted when we lived in the area back in 1995.
While there, I felt a draft of cold air when I walked into certain rooms, and I saw a shadow of a person following behind us as we walked throughout the house.
We left when I was too scared to stay.

This is Lynn again .. I am the person who orginally got this story online…To The Person who said that they talked to the historian and the historian said that tts not the house… it is the house… The Zane’s lived in that house while their main mansion was being built in Zanesville… My Fiance had a book that proved the location of the house and the whole story about it but when he moved he lost the book.. there was also a sister house of the mansion.. I do not know the exact location but the owners changed the exterior appearence of the house….
Their are 2 child spirits in the house.. one boy, one girl. they died in the land.

I think this story is confused with Wheeling Island. Martins Ferry doesn’t constantly flood and the location of the house is not in a flood area. Hannah and her husband Jonathon, never lived in Martins Ferry but did live on Wheeling Island.

I’m not talking about Wheeling Island, I know Wheeling Island Floods all the time, you have to remember that we are talking about an different era of time, back in the 1800’s. It was the Zane’s Temp HOme while their Real Mansion was being built.

I am just taking some time to clear a couple of thing’s up as far as the era of when the zane’s occupied this home.
This Mansion was a “temporary home” for the Zane Family while their historic “Zane Mansion” was being built. There was at one time a TWIN MANSION on Wheeling Island but the twin mansion no longer looks the same and was remodeled.
NOw as far as the Book Goes that had the photo’s of the mansion in it. I have no idea what the book was titled but what I do know is that His Friend Bought him the old Book in a Book store.
Not every Librarian knows all the history of their surrounding area. New Thing’s are learned every day about our past’s.
Now I have a few pics of the house on my “myspace site” in a folder called” Ghost’s

What is the new owner doing to the place? I liked living there,..teh only problem I had like i said in my previous post was the landlord. I lived in 2 different apartments there,..The one at teh top fron left (with the door leading to nowhere ourside) and then down the hall last apartment on right hand side. BOth were upstairs. When they devided the house upstairs to make several apartments it was done very shabby and so the noises I thought I heard i belived came from the other apartments,..who knows now?? I hate to see that it was never taken care of because it really was a nice place inside.

Dawn from what I have heard the new owners are going to fix it up and i guess rent the apartments out again. My Finace lived in top two apartments on the left. He was the one who knocked down the wall in the one room to extend the apartment.
I will be concerned for anyone who moves in there after the restoration.

I lived in that Apartment building when I was a kid and can definately tell you that its haunted. I didnt know about its history until just now. I used the see a shadow figure at the end of the hall going toward another room. Thinking it was my Mom, I would go and find nobody there. I thought I heard someone calling my name, again not my Mother. Me and a friend saw a face in the mirror while we were havig a sleepover on the living room floor. I always had a feeling someone would be coming out of the fireplace. I remember having alot of really bad dreams there also. I get chills thinking about it now.

Chad how long ago did you live there? my finace Michael lived there in the 90’s and he was the one who experienced many of the encounters with the dark shadow.

First I’d like to say thank you to Lynn for helping us find the exact location of the’mansion.’ I’m writing a book about the local Ohio Valley, it’s hauntings, forgotten history and legends. The ‘Haunted Zane Mansion’ has been a favorite of mine to research and I thought you all may be interested in what I’ve discovered. I’d like to clarify that this is historical record. The Zanes were buried in Wheeling and that cemetery did flood. But due to the fast growth of the city, the cemetery was removed as were the bodies. The Zanes were moved to Walnut Grove in Martins Ferry. Hannah Zane SHOULD be buried there as well but she isn’t. So yes, there is a question as to what happened to her body. I too have some interesting photos of the mansion, one in particular looks like a child in the window of the stairwell

My friends and I have been inside this place to investigate the allegid hauntings. Although we didn’t find anything paranormal (we thought we did, but it turned out to be a cat), the place does give off a very eerie feeling. I wouldn’t say either way that it’s haunted or not. We didn’t experience anything, but then again we weren’t in there long. It’s a pretty public place to try to get into. There are houses on either side as well as an apartment building. The doors and most of the windows have been boarded shut. It’s really a great place though. If you decide to go, just be careful.

hi i’m Layla Hood i have a story that is totally scary okay one day actually 3 days ago in ross ohio i go 2 Ross middle school and all my classmates and teachers were out at recess i went 2 put a note on Mrs.kiefers desk aka my home room teacher well any way i heard a loud banging noise on the window and it opened i was so scared then i heard laughing but singing at the same time it was a song that haunted me and gave me chills down my back it was like a lullaby now every time i go in there alone i always hear that lullaby and always have chills down my back.
