Real Haunted House

Olde World Canterbury Village

Lake Orion, Michigan

The property began as a family farm called the Haddril Farm, and later was bought by the Scripps family, who had amassed a fortune through the newspaper business. Mr. Scripps bought it as a hobby, and soon developed it into a major farm of about 3,000 acres. During this time, many people lived and worked at the farm which Scripps called Wildwood. There was supposedly a cook named Minnie that was born on the farm and lived her life there. Her presence has been reported in what is now called the Canterbury Tails store. A local psychic, James, has found several other ghosts including Mrs. Scripps, who is said to have been seen by several people over the years as a woman in white, walking about the grounds. Many workers at this site have claimed to hear odd noises in the buildings, and have witnessed items, such as lights, being turned on randomly . One worker was locked in a basement room, and despite his best efforts, could not even budge the door. Finally, the general manager came to his aid only to find that the door was unlocked and opened easily. There is a rumor that a family cemetery was somehow lost when a man planned to develop the property. This occurrence could be the cause for some of the paranormal disturbances on the site.

I used to work at the Canterbury store and yes, it is haunted. At night when we were closing up and nobody but the employees were left, you could hear footsteps upstairs and I actually went up there to see if a customer was left in the building before I locked up and NOBODY was up there.

Hi, for those of you who don’t know there is a small tavern around the back of Kings Court Castle My best friend worked there for a summer, and i stopped by to pick her up one night. She still had some work to do so i volunteered to help her bus some tables and get it cleaned up in there. They have a game room in the upper level of this tavern, which is where I was with my friend. When we were up there (and I am being dead serious) not only did a hat fall off of a table, which how did that get there anyway, but a arcade style dart board turned itself on when it was unplugged. I think I said something like, “Don’t leave me! I’m never coming back here!”

No. It’s not. I live next to the place. Right next to it. Theres no ghosts and theres like 2 restraunts and a couple shops. It’s not even that big or scary for that matter. Honestly if someone wants to actually give me a specific place in the buildings I would go look.

A couple of nights ago me and my friends went there around 1 in the morning to see if the rumor was true and all the lights outside turned of right when we walked by the Village Quilt Shop and another night we brought a video camera there and and we got a video of a woman with a white dress on and her hair in a bun walking around in The Clansman Gaelic Pub and just disappeared around 12 am.

Woah! I live pretty close to Scripps/Canterbury. I knew that whole area was pretty history-rich but I had no idea it was haunted. I’ve often rode my bike through Canterbury Village before anyone was there in the mornings. I’ve also rode my bike and walked down Scripps road. The whole place (even Canterbury) has always seemed a little eerie to me. This is awesome lol!

I have been to the cemetery, and it’s not at Canterbury nor is it creepy. Just old. Also, I worked at the Village for a long time, always alone, and always at night. The only thing there is what’s in people’s own imaginations. Sorry, this is total bunk.

I live in a subdivision off of Scripps Rd. and worked for many years at Canterbury Village. I was actually on the construction crew that did the demolition of the old village and build The Canterbury Village. I spent many late nights there trying to get Canterbury open to the public and I can assure you plenty of creepy, unexplained things happened to many of us. I do know for a fact that the old cemetery that was built on the old Scripps farm was bulldozed into the ground to make way for The Olde World Canterbury project. If you ask me, disrupting an old burial ground for economic development can bring nothing but evil and bad luck!

The store is NOT called “Canterbury Tails”, it is called “Stitch In Time.”

I am actually an employee at the large christmas store in the village. When I work evenings when it’s not busy, the place gives me the creeps. It is so scary working alone in that place, especially downstairs by all of the creepy statues. I often get very paranoid while working because several of my coworkers have told me experiences they’ve had. Two coworkers of mine told me they’ve seen black shadows run by in the corner of their eye. Also when I was talking to a woman over at the gift shop, she told me that she hears footsteps in the attic when no one is even in the store. People from the King’s Court restaraunt have also told me how they see a little girl walking around. All i’ve really experienced was elevators opening when I was in a room when nobody was around, motion sensored dolls have gone off, and a register that was turned off flickered on then back off again. I get so scared having to go in the warehouse and stockroom’s by myself, and the absolute worst is having to do a walk-through when we are closing to check if anyone is still in the store. The place definitely gives me the creeps.
