This story couldn’t hold all the water in New orleans let alone a paper cup. There were never any graves and the light is still in use.

First, if you have ever been to Point Lookout you would know that the lighthouse is no longer in use. There is a ton of wierd and spooky things that go on there at night. My family and I go camping there all the time, and we have seen wierd apparitions will driving down near the lighthouse.

I have been to point lookout. I have seen the famous “ghost of point lookout” and I have been inside the lighthouse. I did think the lighthouse was still in use though. I have some voices on tape that we recorded at our campsite, just my aunt and I. She says to go into the light, and that Jesus wants you, and the voice clearly says “he wants YOU”. We also got a voice inside the lighthouse of a woman and a child in the basement. It was creepy. People in our group when we went also said they felt strange things happening on the beach. There is an entire museum devoted to the history of point lookout, and how hundreds of civil war soldiers fell to thier deaths and were never moved, so the spot they fell is the spot where they still remain. The lake in the middle of the camping grounds I believe was a burial spot for several dead bodies at the time.

Last Halloween there was a sign advertising the ‘ghosts of point lookout’
and I thought it was just a spooky party but now i heard this story…. i’m spooked!!

This area is very Haunted, and we have experienced many Paranormal Happenings. I’ve personally been involved in the Civil War Living History camp outs, at the Park, and also been part of Paranormal

Many pictures taken in the lighthouse show orbs, and there is even one of Laura Berg, the last resident of the lighthouse, standing in the middle of a room, and off to the side is an outline of a soldier in uniform. I’ve visited during Open House, and it’s the creepiest place I’ve ever been. No wonder they call it the most haunted lighthouse in America

We camped in the Hoffman Loop of Point Look Out State Park Campground in July of 2004 and while we were walking along the loop road at a certain point we hit a cold spot and the hair on our arm’s stood straight up and there was a breeze…which we found to be very strange seeing it was 90 degrees out and very humid.
This occurred around Site #45…once we passed the site everything was back to hot and humid.

We later found out through research that the area of that site was where the Small Pox Hospital was where a lot of people died.

I also heard a story of a park ranger who had spotted an old lady walking along the beach of the Potomac and she kept walking and turning around and walking again up the beach, so he stopped and he said she had a bouquet of flowers and he asked her if she was alright and she answered that she was trying to find his grave…the park ranger was startled to hear this and then she just simply vanished…he later found out that the area in which she was walking along the Potomac Beach was where the dead were buried in a makeshift cemetary.

Another story I heard was a park ranger was driving from the park headquarters toward the lighthouse and had just passed the campground entrance and was going on the causeway when he looked in his rearview mirror and saw a person in old tattered gray clothing crossing the road and heading in the opposite direction…he turned around and headed back in that direction and found no one anywhere…he later found out that confederate prisoners would often fake illness related to small pox so that they would be moved from the prison area to the small pox hospital and then they would often attempt to escape from the hospital.

While we were there we did not see, hear or experience anything paranormal in the area of the lighthouse.

i don’t know haw to belive this story but this **** makes me think somebody is making it all up but i will find out someway and this **** seems like it’s so damn fake

The stories about Point Lookout are true. If you’ve ever walked around the grounds and hit a cold spot in the middle of July, you know something is there. I’ve seen it for myself.

if ever you watch the travel channel they say that Point look out is the most hunted lighthouse in America but i did call them and they have the light house open once a year now on Nov 1 or so that is what they say and no the light house is not in use anymore but sometimes the light is still lite

How do you get to this Point Lookout State Park? Is the lighthouse nearby?

I think that this is all fake because I have been there and never here anything or seen anything well maybe because I don’t belive ein ghots. Ghots dosen’t exist because when some one dies he or she dosen’t remmenber who he/ she was in life. The only thing you think you see is the devil not ghots.

Several years ago, I was at Pt. Lookout for a Confrederate living history, and we were camped in the prison area, near the Union barracks.I knew all the folks that were there. I like exploring places we go, and walked around the wall area & deadline.
I happened to see translucent rebs?” walking the yard area.I recognized the rags of uniforms as CSA, as I too was wearing one. Several of these “pards” walked torwards me, and looked at me. I felt scared to friggin’ death, but welcome among friends.I too, felt the hopelessness of this guys which gave me a large lump in my chest,very hard to swallow .Seeing your breath in the middle of June is very unnerving!

Remember- most of the Pt. Lookout camp is now under the watersurrounding the peninsula. We now only see a small reminant!

omg i just heard someone turn the phone on and i am the only one in the house omg and on my computer in my room i just smelled perfume and i am 16 so this is all so freaky for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i went camping at point lookout this summer and i definetly know that this place is haunted. i was in my tent and it was really hot out. then there was a sudden cold breeze blowing. i saw these two shadows walking by my tent, one looked very much like a women. she had her hair up in a bun and she and this other figure walked around my tent about 8 more times.that night i didnt get a minute of sleep.

My family and I have been camping at PLO for years. We used to walk from the campground to the lighthouse at night, until about 2 years ago when the park rangers began stopping us. But before that we would walk along the dark road and just come to the cold spots that everyone talks about. I have only been in the lighthouse once and that was on the One day in November that it is open to the public. It was during the day and I didn’t get any strange feelings. There were a bunch of dead flies in the window sill, very Amityville… (i think those were bees though) Anyhow, my brother and I swear we heard footsteps on one occasion that we were outside the fence at night. The only problem with trying to get any creepy vibes from the lighthouse is that you are surrounded by people fishing and bright lights at the inlet. Now the creepiest story my family and I have dates back to the 80’s. My Uncles and my Brother went down there to go fishing for the night, completely unaware of the stories. They got there around dusk and saw a dark shadow standing by the Point Lookout sign that has the mini lighthouse next to it. They didn’t know what it was so they joked that they saw bigfoot in the woods… until sometime later when point lookout was on one of those haunted tv shows….
Think what you will but I totally believe it’s haunted. Though I’ve never actually seen anything, when I’m camping I don’t walk to the bathroom alone, at night!

About a year and a half ago, A Navy co-worker of mine and his wife were just starting to rent a house back off the road that leads to the lighthouse.He showed me the house before they moved in. It was a rather large house with a huge wrap around deck.
Anyway,they started to move in on a Wednesday and spent the night.During the night, they heard this old time music accompanied by this man’s voice and 2 young children’s voices. He went down to the first floor to investigate where he thought it was coming from and of course as you might guess, it stopped. He even opened the window thinking that it was someones radio but heard no sound. There are only three other homes in this cluster and pretty remote.This happened until 5:30 in the morning when he had to go to work.
His wife returned with him as she stayed the day at the old rental since the lease had not run out. They did not stay again in that house until Saturday night.Same thing happened. Starts between 3am and 5 am.( I guess Ghosts like that old Gary U.S.Bond’s hit “Quarter to Three ” ),seems to be the bewitching hour for most Ghost Stories.Anyway, they left and his wife refused to stay there again.I worked with this guy and he played hell trying to get his deposit back.He never did and he and his wife stayed the rest of his tour here in their original rental property.They were both non-believers before this happened.I personally have been to the ” Point Lookout ” area many times and haven’t seen, but there is an eerie feeling all around. We went to the Lighthouse open house a few years back and did get ORBS and the streaming lights on our photos from the second floor next to the room they call ” The Stinky Room ” We do believe in Ghosts of our past, or is it Ghots ?

I have been there on a lighthouse tour. Where would hundreds of confederates have fallen off a cliff? It all seemed pretty flat and near sea level to me. That is a scary place with a lot of history.

I am into this stuff to I am one of those people who can see the dead I’ve been to alot of scary haunted places. I’ve always been interested in that kind of stuff.

i been there couple of times it does feel strange at night around there and i thought i saw someone walking along route5 i was on my way home it was late at night so i figure maybe she need a ride i stopped she was gone in less then a heartbeat dissappeared scared the **** outof me i sped so fast out of there i was there about two weeks ago it still feels da same at night spooky

5 of my friends gone fishing one night by pt look out and never catch anything and one of my friend saw a lady on a white dress and said “oh look you caught so much fish”" but then again they he look back the lady was gone.. after that just 1 of my friend keep reeling fish 1 to another the four of them never catch anything

I work at the park and there was in fact a graveyard on site but it was moved due to the land erosion. It is a very spooky place with lots of history, and lots of tragedy. lets just say that i try and get out of here before it gets dark

My sister-in-law, myself, and our 6 daughters camped at Point Lookout last week and visited the memorial at about 9:30pm.

Though we did not see or hear anything, we all felt a bit “off balance” and felt the need to sit down. I felt cold spots that gave me chills 3 times in one spot to the left of the memorial. It was 100 degrees that day. a “ghosthunter” acquaintance of mine had once told me to take pictures in the dark. We did that and when we downloaded the pics, saw nothing.
Then I decided to edit on Picasa. Out of curiosity, I used the “Fill light” tool, and uncovered literally hundreds of light orbs in the picture we took first before we entered the property.

Subsequent photos (after we walked into the site)had fewer orbs and none of them were near us in pictures with any of us in them.

I’ve been to the park on numerous occasions and haven’t seen anything…..yet. I’d love to. The scariest thing I’ve seen was a wild raccoon in my tent one night. Can someone here tell me a good place to visit in the park to see some of the unexplained?

Okay, I also work at the park, and feel the need to clarify some things:
1. There is no spot where Confederates “fell to their death.” The area is only a foot or two above sea level at most, and floods are not uncommon.
2. There are, in fact, graves. They were originally in park boundaries but were relocated due to erosion of the original burial area. They are now laid to rest near the obelisk seen near the entrance to the park.
3. The approximate figure of Confederate dead according to our records is 3,384. These records include name, company and regiment of the dead. The figure of 4,000 is an educated guess allowing for the deaths of civilian prisoners and possibly shoddy records. However, I would like to point out that our record books that we use were published in the 1880s.
4. The lighthouse has not been used in a few decades. There is no keeper there, the light is off. However, the schedule of openings has changed. It is now open the first Saturday of every month from 10am-2pm. For a complete schedule, please visit http://www.pllps.org
5. The sign advertising the “Ghosts of Point Lookout” is promoting an annual ghost walk that the park does close to Hallowe’en. The local group, Friends of Point Lookout, uses period costumes and armaments to recreate what life would have been like for the soldiers. Having participated in the event for the last three years, I can say that it is a blast to attend.
6. Contrary to the impressions of a supposed medium, the buildings in Fort Lincoln are only between 10 and 20 years old. They are built based on blueprints in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and are thus historically accurate. The earthen walls of the fort itself, however, are over 150 years old.

Personally, I have not had any paranormal experiences in the park and do not believe in ghosts, though for those of you who do, that’s cool. I would, however, like to express my personal frustration. Most of the vandalism at Point Lookout comes from amateur “paranormal investigators.” This does not refer to the professional groups that I see from time to time. They respect the park, and I respect them. I refer to the people who throw tables through the windows of the fort, or the people who break into the lighthouse and split 19th-century hand-carved wooden doors down the middle in the hopes of “seeing something.” Those people make me sick. If you want to come visit, by all means do. If you want to hunt for ghosts, by all means do. But respect the park and its history.

Well I’m trying to get my boyfriend to go with me, cause I like crazy scary ****, but I’ve been trying to experience some paranormal events, so I really want to go, has any one heard of any Hauntings in Ellicott City, MD? Like about the old Jail, or the old Mental Hospital.

I live in St. Mary’s County, and I’ve been to the lighthouse a lot of times. My mother and Aunt have done their own investigations in it when it was open for visitors, since once a year they open it up for people to walk through. Anyways my mom and Aunt experienced voices from their tape recordings and have seen things they still won’t tell me about. i haven’t heard the tape yet, but when they talk about it I know it’s real by their eyes. This place is truly haunted..

I just remembered.. Lol. But my cousin used to work at the park, because her parent’s would always take me to go camping there. She said that one day when she went to check on one of the camp-sites that she saw what looked to be an outline of tents and soldiers of the POW camp that looked transparent in the morning light. She told me she ran away. Also I know that if you stay at a certain camping spot you can feel someone tugging at your feet at night. It’s said that the ghost of a nurse comes back and tucks your feet because she used to do that for patients. Another story I heard is that at another camping spot you will feel anger towards your loved ones because someone hateful died in that spot. It’s a spook there for sure.

I first visited the park when I was 18 months old. This was before formal campgrounds were available there. My parents told me stories of their adventures there, none were ghost related, just wonderful times. My dad’s parents were friends with one of the last lighthouse keepers, and were lucky enough to stay there for weekends. My grandmother told of voices, and seeing transparent people. I loved when the museum was put in, it was how I learned the History of the area. I have had personal experiances, years ago, but have never been afraid. I love that place I call it my little bit of heaven. I always wanted to live in one of the homes on the side roads heading from the causeway toward the point, but was told that they were privately owned, and if ever sold would go to the state…not fair!!! It has been years since I have been able to get there, my family has plans to visit for a week next year, I can’t wait to share it with my Hubby and my son. The park is a peaceful place now, odd when you think of the tragic things that happened there. Small Pox, murders, illness from the extreme cold, stories of prisoners trying to escape during the warmer weather under barrels, floating away to they did not know where. It is a place of nature, plants, animals, and FROGS…OMG!!! I even remember one year, just getting there it began to rain, and there were so many frogs all over the road (RT5) it looked as if was raining frogs. To the person who says you work there, thank you for taking care of my little peice of heaven!!!For those who have not been there, try to go, not just to hunt ghosts, but to drink in the history, and the fresh piny air, and the beauity that is there, It is so nice!!! Both my grandparents and parents are gone now, but I feel closest to them there, at the place of our family vacations, our hey lets just drive down for the weekends, for the memories I have there, dancing in my little white go go boots at Anne and Joes Tavern…eating mini Ressie cups, Buzzies, Ricks, I can almost hear my dad singing “country Road” out loud just thinking about it.

I went to the ghost walk and it was spooky. ^_^

I grew up in point lookout my father was a park ranger there i know all the stories and some that you dont know i will tell you it is all true , very true , i did not live in the light house but in a house just past the ” new ” fishing pier , that now stands where the old hotel once stood , i was there when the hotel was torn down , my house has plans to be demolished and might very well be gone now , but i know what i saw and herd and many other acounts of others who lived there or worked there i assure you this is one of the most haunted places in the U.S and it has not been investigated the way it should.

I just went here last Halloween and it wasn’t that much fun as before. They don’t open the lighthouse that much anymore. But it is creepy there.

The last person to live in the lighthouse as a resident was Laura Berg. The lighthouse is now open for tours during daylight hours only on the first weekend of the month. Laura berg is there with her photo album. Also attending is a lady born and raised in Cove Point lighthouse with her own photo album of her father working at Pt Lookout. apparently those who dont believe go there to look. Just enjoy the park and you will catch all sorts of things out of the corners of you eye. You have to remember that this was a Union Operated POW camp during the civil war in a predominantly confederate state. Historical records show that only 6 men from st mary county joined the union and st marys county was a planned escape route for John Wilkes-Booth with the help of several confederate sympathizers including Dr Samuel Mudd and family.

In 2000, and 2001 The company I worked for rented a house on the next cove north of point lookout the house is the one at the end of the road across the street from Shiebles charter fishing place. It was a hot summer night and I was sleeping in an upstairs bed room when I was awoke by the bedroom door opening and I whitnessed A dark figure walk across the room and lay down on the other bed,( this would not be unusual as I had a window unit AC) when I woke up the next morning not only was no one there but my luggage was on the bed(as it was a friday morning I was going home for the weekend after work) the bed room door was still ajar, the old house had doors that had to be forced open or closed because the house was civil war era, and supposed to have been moved form point lookout when it was designated a park we also heard foot steps up stairs when no one was up there. this is not BS

I lived in St. Marys county in Lexington Park for 10 years, Point Lookout and Swans Beach are my favorite spots. I have never heard/seen/felt anything abnormal. I spend most of my free time crabbing, camping, swiming, and fishing. The light house got old and was condemed because of it failing inspection…plus its really not needed, so it was never fixed back up.

Although, point lookout was never scary. I have encountered 2 life changing events that scared me to death. I was a little younger then yet I still think it would be the same effect now on me. The bay is beautiful but the woods…. something about it. Thats the only place I have ever encountered strange/ unexplainable occurences. MD love it, miss it, scared of it!

Ive been there only once for about a week. I remember there being a time of night where everything gets silent. Its pitch black besides for the stars, and I heard this woman begging as she was crying for some one to please help her. I got out of my tent to at least see what was going on, but I simply couldnt find where it was coming from,so I just went back to bed. Later that week I was at a party they held and the police officer there and I were talking, and I asked if the police ever got a distress call from some one the night before. He says were get countless calls from people telling us of a lady crying for help, but we have people search the place and never find anything, and he told me the legend of that lady begging for help for a search for her grave.

i live in hollywood maryland witch is about 30mins from there so i go there every chance i can well up todate as i know the light house is not open to guest but i hear sometimes they open it up with a walkthrew but there is def gaates with barbwire. me and a few friends went there on holloween with the quiji bord(i dont believe in the bord but why not) nothing happen and i yet to see or hear anything but ill keep trying its also a beautifull site btw. when i go i sit on the cement block if u go u know what i mean

I go to Point Lookout often and have recorded many strange voices on my digital recorder. Some are random voices just saying different things, but some actually answer specific questions you ask. Anyone who doesnt believe Pt. Lookout is haunted should take a recorder and walk around on a nasty rainy day, when no one else is there, and ask a few questions and see what they hear. And to those of you who dont think anyone was buried there, just go take a look at the monument. Not only were people buried at Pt. Lookout, but their graves were moved 3 times with the final resting place being at the Monument. Over 3000 people died down there, some in horrible conditions, believe me, that place is haunted!

I use to work at point lookout for maintenance -Grounds keeper . The stories are real.i have seen some things that will make your hair stand on end ! For five seasonal years I worked under Ranger Donald Hammett . One time in late July, I was mowing with the deer 1050 around the back side of fort Lincoln & I kept getting the feeling that I was being watched , the thing was the picnic ground was closed on the lower section because we were expanding the area. I had made a few passes with the deer in the moat & I was coming up along the north side wall looking out towards the Potomac river . just at that time I had an urge to look up at the forts wall . I saw what looked to be a blue misty cloud moving the opposite way I was at the same slow speed. It dissipated at the back corners cannons plat form. At the time it wasn’t scary at all , But, I had a time when I was really rattled . I was in Hoffman’s camp loop digging a new ditch line on the old 1964 ford backhoe . At the time I wasn’t aware that I was digging where the original mass burial grounds ran cross wise through the one loop . I had been their for a while when I got blasted by an ill wind . It was like leaning over a large dead animal . But their wasn’t anything dead anywhere around. It got so bad I almost lost my lunch. I not a wispy person & I don’t scare easy. But that was really bad . It seemed the longer you stayed working their the more you noticed the weird stuff. I found out later from one of the rangers that that was one of the mass burial sites. the dead were buried in long pits 500 to 1000 feet long & three Men deep. I must have disturbed the dead . Even though all the dead were dug up after the war & moved to a Different spot were the monument sits now. They will always lay their. I can say that bad things went on there during the civil war. As far as soldiers being shot & let to rot were they lay that only happened in the Dead man line near where the prison wall was , if any confederate prisoner crossed into that area they were shot on site. Then left to lay as an example of what not to do.

WOW! I love reading all the things that have happened here. My family and I used to go fishing at Point Lookout. We stayed the night on lawn chairs on the side of the road and fished all night. That was when you were allowed to do that, and many people did. I was too young to know about any of this paranormal stuff then but now I’m dying to go back. I wont go alone and I need someone who is willing to get the **** scared out of them because I’m sure we will see SOMETHING!

I Live in St. Mary’s almost all of my life and this whole point look out being haunted is a bunch of BS. I spent a lot of my time in point look out as a teenager, and lived in point look out for some time too. I have never seen anything weird or un-normal. It’s haunted b/c the people have chosen to make it haunted, hense the fake story tellers. I am a believer as my grandfather haunted my grandmother house, so I believe in ghosts. But NEVER not once in all the time I spent there, have I seen a ghost or anything weird~!

i believe its true i lived in st marys county and been there. Never seen anything just felt the cold in the middle of summer. alot of my friends and even my brother, tell me simular stories. Nicole you are wrong i used to worship satan, and also you dont know what a ghost does or thinks. and ghosts are real. my brother wont step into the woods at a certian place in coltons point in st marys because him a friend and his girlfriend got attacked by one. not only that watch the travel channel.
