Now, PLookout State Park was during the Civil War and area, where the soldiers from all over the country were sent that had been infected with Smallpox. They brought the bodies in and out the infirmary, during this time, mainly for treatment. Smallpox was most often fatal at that time.
The place that this was at, was at the current primitive campground.
I've have camped there twice near the water. Once with my husband, and once by myself (before I met my husband) at the Full Moon during the night. Yes BY MYSELF......and nothing happened.
There was a very bright full moom I might ad, so if there was something I would have picked it up. But,heck I have seen Orbs in my lifetime, MANY times, and I never saw anything - but I could feel it.
As far as the Lighthouse - well, remember the Exorcist movie - well how could we forget about that right? That movie had scenes at one point either in I or II, not sure which, where a room showed a bunch of flys in it? Well, this I believe is a connection to a evil spirit...whew! got through that one..
Anyway, the chilling things I most remember about the Lighthouse was that it had a room (downstairs near the kitchen area) that had a couple of windows on the outer wall, and there were lots of flys inside that room.
I took many photos when I went there with my husband once, and no orbs. And went there the other time when I was camping myself, and the Mid-Atlantic Paranormal's were there and let me in the gate to take outside pictures. I've painted that particular building- getting it right is important. Anyway, the paranormals told me of the stories of what goes on. And why would THEY make this stuff up?
SPirits are simply in another dimension than we are, and I believe that they are all around us. Many are not aware and some people can sense it better than others.
Anyway, I challenge anyone to CAMP during FULL MOON at the campground by themselves, and then come back and post to this link and let us know what you find out! Hey, Renee give it a whirl!!

I am not sure - I guess Renee must live near Moll Dyer Rd.in St. Mary's County. Now that story was a true one from what I was told from the 1600's. Where the Duke and other family group near Leonardtown chased a woman from her little house outside of town with lighted torches, and then burned it down! They claimed she was a witch. And days later they found her in the woods frozen leaning on a rock. (this was in Feb. in the middle of winter) The rock today is at the old courthouse up in Leonardtown, MD right next to the first sheriff's office. The kicker was that they said her handprints were inbedded into this large rock.
I've seen the rock, and there are indentions too.
the result- It is said that in the time of Feb. that while driving through Hwy 5 late at night, right passing the Moll Dyer Rd. you can hear a howling through the woods. I've seen the fog, late at night in Feb. around there. But no howling anywhere around.

Point Lookout - another story...all together.

I have lived in the area my whole life and have been to point lookout more times than I can keep track. This talk about ghost and all that non-sense is simply not true. My family and I used to routinely go out and Ghost hunt and nothing was ever found. Most of the people that "see the ghost's" are always melodramatic people who like getting reactions out of others. As someone who was live on moll dyers run my whole life and never seen anything. I was also ticked after the blair witch project was released, and I constantly had a bunch of idiot teenagers in my woods "looking for her." I can tell you this ghost stuff in the sense of "oh I saw a figure" and "my tape recorder picked something up.." seriously cut the crap.

I use to live not too far away from point lookout, and have traveled down there many times with my family. My experiences with the paranormal there was many!!!! I not only saw apparitions but also felt touches, and heard many voices down there. The haunting is not limited to just around the lighthouse, but all around the grounds, and the many acres to this property. There are other areas of haunting in St Mary's County for which i have experienced. These would include Beachville Rd. and down in St Mary's City by the college. If you don't believe than your just not sensitive enough to this type of thing.

Very scary camp ground. I went there about 2 years ago. I went to a ghost story telling and later that night me and my sister were sleeping in a tent. It was about 2:30 in the morning and we heard walking around the tent. There were lights outside the tent so if it was a person we would have seen shadows. No shadows were seen. We looked out and nobody was around.

I enlarged the area of the pic that" me" put up where he/she claimed to have captured a ghost a few years ago. In the original picture there is a bunch of orbs too. Here is a copy of the enlarged area

The family and I finally got to visit and stay overnight. I recorded my first EVP ! I recorded off and on at the lighthouse, memorial, cemetary and campground. Nothing found on pictures but not all have been developed. We stayed in the Hoffman loop (on purpose) Had picked up something after midnight on my way back from the bathroom and past the small pox hospital area. Male voice clearly said "get help" My son and I also thought we heard someone running throught the woods that night. That's all but it left me craving more. Heard some great ghost stories from the park ranger and others who work there. The people were very friendly and eager to answer my questions. The park has so much history. The museum, fort, cemetary & lighthouse are a must see. And don't forget your fishing rods. My husband and son had a blast on the piers. There's alot to do. Not much for hiking, though. One of the best trips this summer and can't wait to go back.
