Real Haunted House

Preque Isle Lighthouse

Presque Isle, Michigan

The lighthouse was supposedly the scene of a fight between two men over one particularly lovely young lady. The womans lover one, leaving the lighthouse operator alone. The operator stayed in solitude and died after many years. Other operators of the light house have reported hearing someone walking up the stairs toward the light. After many years, the lighthouse was decommissioned and abandoned. Still, however, sailors have reported being able to see the light.

Whoa get off your damn soap box Natasha. You can’t even capitalize words child. I’ve been there myself and I have seen the ghost in photographs but not with my own eyes because I haven’t been there at night. I went up in to the light house myself. Can’t remember the name of the lighthouse, but it was the smaller one and not the bigger one down the road. I do have a feeling its true though.

Presque Isle Lighthouse
Location: On Lake Huron, Presque Isle, Michigan
When Built: 1840.
The Haunting: Said to be haunted by the ghost of George Parris, the former lighthouse keeper. The lighthouse is now abandoned, yet an amber light is occasionally seen still flashing from the tower. George and Lorraine Parris moved into the small house attached to the lighthouse in 1977, where they looked after the grounds and provided tours to vacationers. The lighthouse was actually taken out of service in 1870, but it wasn’t until 1979 that George and the Coast Guard removed the wiring. Yet after George died in 1991, the mystery light began to appear. “I knew right away that it was George,” said his widow, who continued the caretaker duties alone. “He used to cook breakfast for me in the morning. Bacon and eggs. There were many mornings when I’d wake up to the smell of breakfast, but naturally no one was there. I knew that it was him.” According to one story, a little girl touring the lighthouse with her family had climbed to the top of the tower and returned giggling. When asked who she had been talking to up there, she said, “To the man in the tower.” She later identified the man as George Parris from a portrait of him in the cottage.

This lighthouse was featured on cable television show they heard noises and investigated the lighthouse one of the crew became frightened by something and tried to get out of the lighthouse he found himself locked in and a local locksmith they contacted for the story said that the lock had been broken and bent inside he did not understand how it could get that way and the lock had never given anyone any problem before.

Justin you’re the dumbass. Natasha’s version is correct. As for you and your damned soap box Heather, it probably never occurred to you that lazy and or busy people frequently do not capitalize letters when typing…i do it all the time you fruitcake!!! By the
way I saw the same show CJP saw which completely vindicates Natasha. Repeat after me “I am a stupid, mean, uneducated, troll who eats cat fudge and should’ve been sterilized at birth to prevent the gene pool from further being polluted!”

I just want to let you all know that the show was on SciFi and it is called prof postive.. and it was not proved to be haunted by the light. But I have one thing to say who cares if one of you is dating his grandson.. Just love the story for what it is….

I dont believe this comments section.. such childish catfights.. is this not a place for questions and comments related to the haunting and not an english class? and giving out address??!! A huge NO NO. And anyone who would suggest that someone is fat and ugly and need not reproduce is just a hateful spiteful angry soul .. one that I truly feel sorry for. Such a loss of good energy.. try putting that anger to a good use and learn to love your fellow man/woman for thats Gods plan.. dont bother to respond as I will not ever return here due to such childish behaviors.
Ya bunch of idiots.

Wow! You people are real funny. The thing that I was going out with George’s grandson was just saying that I have talked to Mrs. Parris. She has told me the stories of the light house. No I ain’t fat. And maybe Heather if you weren’t such a ***** you would go out there at night. If you are lucky you will see something out there. I have and I have my friends to prove it they were out there with me and they seen it too. Also if you go onto the pier count out 36-37 something like that you will see the “ghost light” as they call it. it didn’t start appearring till sometime after George had died.

For those who were interested in the location, here you go..Old Presque Isle Lighthouse Park is located 1/4 mile north of the harbor. On Grand Lake Rd. in Presque Isle Mi. Just 23 miles north of Alpena. Open seasonally May – October. In season call 517-595-6979 for more information.

Also, the info provided by this site is not accurate.
The lighthouse is said to be haunted solely by Mr. George Parris, a former museum caretaker who is now deceased.

Under orders from the Coast Guard, George removed the light bulb and wiring, leaving the lighthouse without any means of being lit. On January 2 1992, George died. In May of that year, people started witnessing an unexplained light coming from the tower, a light that has perhaps saved several lives of people lost in fogs.
This is the true legend!

I know this because I visit it each and every summer. I have met and spoke with, both, George (before his death) and his wife Lorraine, many times.
There were never tales of a ghost prior to George’s death.

Natasha knows her stuff people! I have lived in the area all my life and had never been to the lighthouse. I had never even heard of the hauntings till a few years ago when I saw a special on t.v. It wasnt the sci fi channel one though, it was Americas Haunted Lighthouses or something like that and it was on the Travel channel. I can say I wasnt all that impressed when a friend and I visited the it this summer. The show made it seem so impressive and it is only about 30 feet tall, you could almost spit over the rail, race down the steps and beat it to the ground. It has been in several shows and when talking to a worker they told us that a film crew was going to be doing another special this summer. Not sure if it happened but if it did now is the time of year to see it on tv.
