Preque Isle Lighthouse
The lighthouse was supposedly the scene of a fight between two men over one particularly lovely young lady. The womans lover one, leaving the lighthouse operator alone. The operator stayed in solitude and died after many years. Other operators of the light house have reported hearing someone walking up the stairs toward the light. After many years, the lighthouse was decommissioned and abandoned. Still, however, sailors have reported being able to see the light.

Okay, I live in Posen and the lighthouse is about 20 min or less from my house. My friends and I have been there, and we didn’t hear/see anything, until we went to the place that was blocked off up to the top of the lighthouse, where people were not allowed admittance. We heard soft tapping and creeking noises, it was really creepy so we left.

Hey, I was just there with my daughter and some friends last night. I’ve lived in Michigan all my life(41 yrs, now), and I’d never heard of this until yesterday. The “official” story from the lady at the lighthouse gift shop is the George and Lorraine Parris one. We went out on the pier with blankets and hot chocolate and did indeed see a light. Was it a ghost?? Not convinced, but unable to come up with another reason for it as yet. It’s fun to think about, but I’m generally a non believer. The area is beautiful to walk, and both the old and new lighthouses are fun to visit with or without the presance of ghosts.

I was at the lighthouse in the summer of 1992 when I was fortunate enough to meet Mrs. Parris, she told me the story of the light still seen at night ( I was there during the day), such a nice lady, she was so proud of her husband and kept the lighthouse beautifully decorated inside. I hope she is well.

I don’t know if its a haunting or not but it can be very creey and once it scared a bunch of freinds and I so bad we tore out of their so fast a police officer pulled us over and when he asked why we were flying out of there he let us off because apparently he saw it before to and it scared him half to death

This place isn’t haunted at all I live in Alpena all my life and my parents lived in Preque Isle for a few years before I was born. My parents knew Mr. and Mrs. Parris and they say that Mrs. Parris is nut and just does stuff for attention. As for the picture of the ghost I talked to the guy that took it, it’s just a tick of light that they did. As for the thing that was TV I know the kid that got “locked” in the place that really didn’t happen the producer of the TV show said to do it to make it more dramatic. Finally as for the light they have found that it is actually a refection of the harbor lights.

Hey guys this is so true in 1993 i went out in the woods walking out there with a light. They had the gate locked so i went a round it and walked the back beach. And i swear to this day i seen a ladey chillin on the beach in old day clothing. I Started to run Because i new i was not supost to be at the place because it was closed, But when i looked back there was no one. Next thing you know i see the light go acrost the sky. Well buy that time i was like ok this is true started cutting trew the woods back and almost triped over the wire gate cabel they had for the gate at the time. All I know is that there is some crazy **** going on out there on that property.

Hi everyone:) I just watched a show the other day about the light house. They did some tests to see why the light seems to be on. It was proven to be reflect from the nearby residents lights. A man sttod up in the light house till his crew said they could see the light. He then went around the light house windows and covered each one up with a black wool blanket. As the window facing the town was covered the light was gone. Not many people relize that a huge reflective metal guard surrounds one side of the light bulb. So even though there is no bulb the highly reflective metal guard picks up light. Not that I am a sceptic, I have lived in this area all my life and many times in my youth we would visit the light house. So I would suggest anyone who doubts the keeper is still there to go see for yourself.

I have been to the lighthouse on several occasions, and to this day I have not seen or heard anything out of the ordinary. I too know Mrs. Paris, and to my knowledge, she is NOT a nut. My sister also goes to church with her. She talks of the hauntings and her husband with great affection. The story of the lighthouse hauntings is great, and hope that it continues to keep people coming and checking the place out. It is a beautiful site, especially when the moon is full and the waves are crashing upon the shore. And just because I myself or my friends have never seen anything, well, it doesn’t mean that its not in fact true.

Listen I personally dont believe in the lighthouse being haunted. But the girl mentioned in another comment was my niece. She did go up the lighthouse, She did come down giggling about the man in the tower. When she toured the house after she identified the man in the tower as the man in a photo on the wall. I dont know off hand if she was asked if that was him or if she just blurted it out that it was him. She was also interviewed for a sci-fi show about myths of the supernatural. I dont remember what it was called it was a while now that the show aired. I do remember that the show did debunk it after one of the crew was locked in the tower the door simply jammed without reason or why. He just couldnt get it open. However they said that the road that was finnished around the same time as the caretakers death. They said that the passing cars headlights were being reflected in the glass of the light and reflecting as if it were comming on for a second then off again. So I dont know if it is haunted, just use your own judgement. But if ever in the area of Grand Lake it is a beautiful view from the top so it is absolutely a do not miss site for tourists. So check it out for yourself.

okay so me and my friends just went out there tonight and we were fooling around and just snapping random pictures. Later upon uploading the pictures onto the computer we found a picture that almost looked like a face in the window. Although this may be just a coincidence, it looked an awful lot like a face.

hello. I have lived in this area most of my life. It saddens me to see how people joke around about others and I know from personal experience that George and Lorraine Parris were wonderful people. As a child I remember my grandparents taking me to visit with them as they were family friends with the Parris’. Lorraine would take me all over the grounds and we would talk about the Lighthouse’s history. She had taken me into the basement of the lightkeeper’s house (which was their residence at the time) and we would look for salamanders down there. I remember some years later when George had passed that she had felt his presence around her and told us of how she had seen the light (whether it was a reflection or not didn’t matter) and that she felt that it was George. A couple years ago, I took my husband and children out to visit the old lighthouse and property and we spent quite a bit of time there. We went up in the tower and to the stocks and the bell and inside the lightkeeper’s house. It was a very pleasant experience and all of us felt comfortable and at peace. It brought back a lot of wonderful memories for me and I look forward to going back again.

Many years ago I was stationed at K. I. Sawyer AFB near Marquette Mi. My then husband and I lived in an apartment near Presque Isle. Even then I did not sleep to much at night, and being from north east Mississippi I was not too familure with light houses. Some nights when I couldn’t sleep I would set in the window and watch the light from the light house as it swept through the night. Beings our appartment was not 300 yards off the Northern coast of Lake Superior I could faintly hear the waves come into shore. If I went outside I could hear them better.
One morning I’m sitting at my drafting table at work on base and my NCOIC comes in and says “Girl… you look like ****. Are you not sleeping again?” I told him I had set and watched the light from the lighthouse since 3:00 that morning. He looked at me pretty strange and asked, “What lighthouse?” I told him I assumed it was Presque Isle as that was the only one I had seen in the area. This is when he said it could not be, as it had been out of commission for many years. I know what I saw…. And I saw that light!

I also find this to be very interesting because my Great-Grandpa Llyod Miller was also a light house keeper there and my grandma has many memories of living in the light house. I plan to call her tomorrow and get her side of the story.
