I have lived in Front Royal for several years now, and as of yet I have not seen anything of this affect. In fact, I live quite close to the location. However, now that I have heard of this I will check often and see if I can locate such a thing, and then I will post back.

Who cuts grass at night?

Hello, I use to work at a Hospital in Woodstock Va. I was walking threw one door and headed towards another at the end of the hall, this is a hall that is closed off to the public, The staff used this hall to take bodies down to the morgue and it is the hall that has the library in it. As I was walking a man appeared and asked where his room was. Me not thinking anything about it I told him he needed to go back threw the door behind him and take a right towards the main stay rooms on the hospital floor, as the man walked away I noticed he did not have any legs and walked straight threw the door without opening it. I hauled butt threw the door I came in and got the security guard to check the hall and camaras to see if it was my imagination. The guard told me that it was not my imagination and that im not the only person to see him. The only scary thing about this gentlemen is that he caught me off guard by walking threw the door. He was very nice and even said thank you before walking away.

I used to live in Front Royal and that isn’t the only one I have heard about. People have seen someone sitting on one of the benches and children have beem seem in the child part of it. I love to go up there and up there alot when I come to town. I haven’t seen any yet but I’m hoping too soon.

My friends and I visited the cemetary last summer. We were playing around w/ a 5 in 1 digital camera I got for my b-day. When we got home I went to load everything onto my comp. Theres a part that sounds like kids laughing. U can hear my friends and I talking, shortly after, the camera shuts off. It did that several times while we were there, eventually I figured it was the batteries dieing. After a pack of fresh batteries, it would work until I stepped foot onto the grass near the graves. They were mostly children and babies – ya know the ones w/ the little lambs on top of the headstone. It was kinda creepy, but I wouldnt mind going back there, just to check things out.

I have been going to the cemetery since I was an infant, yes there are spirits roaming about. Soldiers circle, and in the old section, I have seen them up there from time to time.

We live in Front Royal about 2/3rds of a block away from the cemetary on Lee St, our house is very haunted , we have heaps of photographs taken with diff cameras ! as for the lady not only have we seen her but a lot on the street have as well, she is a very small woman all dressed in black quite beautiful, holding a small posy of flowers in her hands, her shoes have a small heal but you cant hear her footsteps.We have also dug up the partial remains of a horse in the front yard while removing an old side walk the bones were chard and the horse shoe has the u.s stamp on it !

I have alot of family in Front Royal. My great Aunt’s house is VERY HAUNTED. I used to stay there alot as a kid. I would always feel like someone was watching me. One day my aunt and uncle went to Winchester to do some shopping while I stayed home. I was in the den area watching tv when I got this terrible feeling. I ran out the back sliding door, around the house till I got to the very end of the driveway. I didn’t even put my shoes on. I stayed there for about 2 hours until they got back. I can’t describe the feeling I had, but it wasn’t good.
One time My 2nd cousin Billy was visiting with his infant son. While he was upstairs unpacking he saw a young girl about 8 years old standing at the doorway. she had no expression, she just stared at him and his son. When he asked who she was she just turned and walked away. Another time his sister Susie was visiting, and she was taking a nap in the same room. She was lying on her side facing the wall. She felt someone lay down beside her, but no one was there. I used to stay in the same room when I was there. I had to sleep with the light and lamps on everynight. My aunts dog used to stand at the bottom of the stairs and bark as if someone was there, but no one would be upstairs. It may sound weird, but I would walk up the stairs sideways because I would always feel someone behind me. I think it was the little girl around me most of the time. I think she was attached herself to children. the house was built in the 40’s. When they dug up the foundation they found unmarked graves from the Civil war. There is a big white house up the hill in her backyard. Well it used to be a Civil war hospital.They used to bring the dead down the hill and bury them where my Aunt’s house stands now. She moved a few years ago after my Uncle died. She still lives in ront Royal though. I can’t remember what road it is on, but it was one of the major roads. It was always alot of traffic. Across the street was some type of apartments, unless they tore them down. Also across the street on the corner is like a Tavern (bar/reasturant). It’s not far from the Fanticy Land playground. I wonder who lives there now. If possible I would like to visit there once more.
Also I have alot of family members who are buried in Prospect Cemetery.

I was born in Front Royal, live here still, and I have never heard of any of this. I have heard stories about the house on Swan Dr. (whish has been torn down and made a subdivision), I have heard of the place just up Guard Hill rd., I think it’s a museum or something, but have heard nothing about Prospect Cemetary. I know where it is, used to go there alot as a kid while skipping school. The old high school is adjacent to it. I will have to check this out for myself. Will post back at a later date..

who would be dum to cut grass at dark and than get scared from seeing it at dark.

First, i have never seen or hear anything from there yet, i walked there about 6:30-8:00pm once one day.
and i never seen or hear anything about this,
sometime ill Re-check this area, otherwise, not i know of.. who would cut the grass at that time, anyhow,
usually i see someone cut it around 1-2pm (Noon)
o and someone should take some Equipment like Camrecorder or something to catch proof :/

My girl friend is from Front Royal I’m from Syracuse New York I moved here in September of 07 and we visited the site and we both seen the woman dressed in mid 1800’s attire. She was near the cannon close to the steps leading down the hill. she seemed to be crying. we both belong to M.A.P.I

I live on Lee Street net to one of the other people who has posted a comment. I have seen pictures taken and there is a gastly image in a lot of the pics. Late at night sometime I am awakened by voices going by my bedroom window, and when I look out there is no one there. I have not been up to the cemetary yet, but i might have to check it out.

I have never heard this story before and now that I have, I sooooooooo want to go there!

OK, to start off with, I not only visit the cemetery very often but WORK their often. NO ONE MOWS THE GRASS THERE EXCEPT THE CEMETERY WORKERS! Furthermore, the gates, FRONT and BACK are LOCKED at or around dawn!! I have NAPPED here often, INTERRED MANY BODIES HERE and NEVER EVEN ONCE have seen or heard ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY! YEP, over 20 years workin here and NEVER BEEN SPOOKED! NOT EVEN BY THE MANY MANY SQUIRRELS that live there!

I have lived in front royal for the last 4 years.I have been to the cemetary many times and have experienced many things.My friends and i have taken pictures of the soldiers cicle and picked up many things that could be orbs.We have heard voices and what sounds like footsteps following us.My friends and i plan to go back and hopefully get more pictures and maybe some evp’s….

I have lived in Front Royal for 21 years and I have never heard any stories about any paranormal activity in Prospect Hill Cemetary. As small as the town is, if anything of that nature has been seen, I’m sure the story would have gotten around town like wildfire.

Look, I was born there, my family is buried there, since about 1974, I have seen the kneeling man in the circle, the widow, and numerous others. You have to remember, you only see what you are allowed to see. Prospect is very historic, and witness to mass tragedy from civil war battle. If you go there looking for them, be respectful of those buried there.

I have family buried there as well. Are you saying that you see these “ghosts” during the day? The cemetary closes it’s gates at dusk.

I visited the cemetery this weekend, as i walked around soldiers circle arouns 3AM i did see the woman. i have it on video as well. I will post a link for the footage on youtube shortly.

How did you get in when the gates are locked?

Torwards the back of the cemetery, near the student parking lot of the school, there is a gate that can be crawled under, i know what we did was not legal, but ive been reading about this cemetery for a while, and it intrigued me to take a look.

I looked at the video. I couldn’t see anything. You didn’t leave the camera in that location long enough and/or zoom in to make sure that it wasn’t another tombstone. There are alot of tombstones that are tall and long and also have figures and shapes to them. Thanks for trying anyway. I was intrigued for a moment.

Renae, i too was skeptical in the fact that it could be a statue of another tonbstone…what got me was that when it appeared the second time it was on the other side of the tall tomb/monument. I will be returning to the cemetery this weekend during the day to see if there is anything in the distance that may have showed up on my camcorder. i will take more video footage during the night and this time i will be more steady and focused on anything i see. We would really love to get some footage on this site (Prospect Cemetery) if you know of anyone who is having problems with paranormal activity in their home or surrounding areas we are right here in Luray. Please feel free to contact us. I have lived in Front Royal more then half my life. I have NEVER heard of any ghost stories in Front Royal other then ones I have experienced myself.I’m not saying I don’t believe but those who say they have proof, I would like to see it. Anywho…I too have been to Prospect Hill many times. I bought a home in Front Royal in May of 07. I went to the courthouse & did a deed search & got a list of all the people who lived in my home. (ca 1916 Craftsman Bungalow) The search went back to 1912 when the owner (Byrd Fletcher)of the farmland split the lots & put them up for sale.

Once I had all the property/homeowner names, I took a walk up to Prospect Hill. There they all were!!! I lovingly refer to them as my “PEEPS”. There is even an empty spot among the group. I don’t plan on going anywhere, so I might just buy it.

My home has always had a warm feeling about it. I think the old owners through the years had a love for the place. The inside is almost like time stood still in 1916. The only major update was the cheesy 80’s bathroom. I am restoring all the woodwork & windows to new/old condition. Last Christmas….about 1 week prior, every other night for a week or so, I would hear little boys giggling at night. Like they were down in the livingroom by the tree…up late chatting or something. Very odd, but it didn’t scare me!

Just a few weeks ago I was in the back bedroom downstairs, which is now an office. I was playing a video game on my laptop & had my hair up on my head….I suddenly felt a cool breath on my neck! Very direct, like you would blow to whistle…but no sound…just a jet of cool air right at the base of my neck!

This didn’t really scare me either. I just have a feeling that if the “peeps” are around & watching me…..they approve of the things I’m doing. Restoring things & keeping things running….like the boiler/radiator system & I will be working on making the wooden storms that were once there.

I LOVE that house….ghosties & all!!!
