Real Haunted House

Quaker Cemetery

Worcester, Massachusetts

Called Spider Gates because it has eight gates, this cemetery is said to be very dangerous. Starting at the first gate it is said that one will hear whispers and notice leaves moving around when the wind is calm. As one gets closer to the eighth gate, it is said they will feel the sensation of someone brushing against them. Others have reported seeing people walking aimlessly around graves. As one gets closer to the eight gate, the sensations and images become so strong that most people faint. No one has ever made it to the eight gate. It is said that some have suffered massive heart attacks and died because they were over come with fear.

hello, I went to spider gates about a month maybe more ago. i went with legit pagans( the white kind) and the only thing that was seen was a strange blue light. though an airport is adjacent to the forest walk, there were no planes due to the time we went. No police patrolled this area as we left and came back 3 different times that night, finally leaving around 5:00am. No hidden pictures of “ghosts” were seen either. Having been to a large amount of “haunted places” in the new england area i can say that this is not haunted. sorry to all of those who have said “i found 8 gates” your full of shat!!!!! there is one metal/rod iron gate with a spider-ish symbol, nothing more.

I went to college in Leicester and six of us ventured to Spider Gates one night. We never saw anything but we definitely heard strange unexplainable noises. We spent an hour just walking and and waiting for more things to happen. Nothing really spooky happened but there was a definite presence there. It felt like we were being watched and followed. Once you read the stories and decide to go, you do feel scared but trust me there are scarier places to go.

I have been to Spider Gates in the past but have not been there in around 15 yrs and will probably never go back. Yes, it haunted. Yes, there is a path way in the back that is in the shape of a pentagram. There is also security that go through their frequently and there is also meetings that go on at night- not sure if its KKK or devil worshippers, or whatever, but I can tell you, just looking at pics of the cemetary gives me anxiety. Go there with a ouija board, sit on 2 grave stones with the board on your knees, and ask it questions. I did that once, very scary experience and doubt Ill ever touch one of those again.

The reason there are cops is because the cemetery is PRIVATE PROPERTY.
You can believe it’s haunted, or you can believe it’s bull, but the thing about “ghost hunting” is that you either have to have permission or it has to be public property. Don’t trespass on private property or risk getting arrested or legal trouble with the cops just for a cheap thrill. Yes, there are things we can’t explain, and who knows, maybe we shouldn’t tamper with it. But if you’re going to tamper with the supernatural, make sure you’re doing it legally and safely. The reason Spidergates is hard to find is because it’s a private cemetery that the owners and families of those who are burried there do not want to deal with ghost hunters and vandals. If my family member was burried there i’d be devastated because no one leaves this place alone. Let them rest in peace, already!

Im Jay.
I have not been to Quaker Cemetery yet.
BUt i would like to say to all the people say there is only one gate,
yes there is only one us as moralts can see.
But due to the fact its also called “The Eight Gates to Hell”
the Eight gates arent ones we can see,
they are only onse that the spirt life are able to see,
So we wouldn’t see them.
They would know when we pass each “gate”.
But thats only what i think,
i really find this stuff intresting so…yea

Has anyone ever heard of the old worchester state hospital? How about grafton job corps? Confused yet? As far as i have found the gates are not within this cemetery but near it…there are dorms on site of grafton job corps and tunnels that run for miles underground. this is where the gates are. it is quite possible that while underground it could run all the way to the cemetary but i’m not sure…as for the tunnels well, i wouldn’t go back.

you know why nothing happened at quaker cemetary i went there on halloween i met the indian and he showed me how to grow corn and make some things then i killed him and took his land and then i put the old man in a home cuz he shouldnt be wandering around at his age.. your all ***** no such things as ghosts you see things cuz your scared its dark youve heard stories and your mind fills the rest in go here or any other haunted place if you wanna be dissapointed or you could stay home turn out the lights and pretend there are ghosts right in your own home save time and money you know i did see a ghost at the bottom of a local lake all you have to do is jump in swim to the bottom and stay there till you meet him RETARDS..

Cassy says:

First, Spider gates has only one gate and that gate is the main gate and it’s called spider gates because the main gate looks like a spider’s web. Second it is privately owned by a family & is off limits during the night, and if you should get caught you’ll probably get sent to jail over night or what ever they do to people who are in the cemetery after dark.

And the owners themselves said they never in all the time that they’ve lived there had any paranormal experiences. So the cemetery is nothing but a quiet graveyard with people in it that have since long passed on. I mean the cemetery is in the woods after all and there are animals, so half the sounds people are hearing is probably just animals running around and making noises.

I remember years ago(about 40 yrs ago) when I was a teen,there was a house in
ashland with a mailbox written in red “blood” well the poor mans last name was Blood . Everyone called him Captain Blood and parked in front of his house and generally harrased the poor man. I guess he finally got sick of it and came running out saying “if you don’t get out of here the blood on the mailbox will be yours!” needless to say we left him alone. When we are young we love to be scared ,but let the dead rest in peace they cannot harm you.

Quaker Cemetery (SpiderGate)is a beautiful old cemetery with many very old grave sites dating back into the 1700’s. Many of the plots are inhabited by entire families, with several generations laid to rest side by side. As with any cemetery, it is to be respected when visited. I dont know about it being haunted, but we went here during a blue moon in the mid 90’s and it was absolutely amazing.

Bill Waggins says:

June 24, 2010, 5:28 pm

This is serious stuff.

Some really frightening things have happened in this place to a lot of people. Really bad things. Authorities and people associated with the burial ground are petrified of the liability, so they post stuff where this place is mentioned denying that anything unusual has ever happened. Those of us who live in the area know better. Many of us have seen the elderly couple who dematerializes into thin air on the far side of the cemetery opposite the gates.

It’s OK to visit in the daytime, as long as you’re quiet, respectful, and don’t do any damage. Skip the cars, and take bikes there. Any cars seen parked on the street will attract cops. Halloween Day is not a good idea since the place is heavily patrolled to prevent problems. Going there at night on any day is taking serious risk of something bad happening. I’m not afraid of haunted houses, ghosts or other happenings, but this place gives me serious creeps. I will not go there after dusk. Ever.

Bill Waggins says:

June 24, 2010, 5:32 pm

The eight gates are not physical ones. They’re areas along the wall where there is a feeling that you can pass through the granite. It’s hard to describe, but once someone points them out, you’ll understand.

Bart Samuelson says:

June 24, 2010, 5:45 pm

Doing anything to vandalize, desecrate, or damage ANYTHING in that place will not only open you to charges, arrest and prosecution, but it will very possibly earn a curse by the spirits who guard the place. All of the people in my high school class who passed before their time all partied there or did some damage. Although it makes sense to show respect to the families who have relatives buried there, there are more serious reasons to behave yourself. Doing damage is so very uncool, and very stupid.

Nick DiLeo says:

August 30, 2010, 3:35 am

I went there at 3 AM, there is NOT 8 gates, it is one very small burial ground and it’s not scary at all. I’ve known about this place for 3 years and I drove 75 miles to get there and was very disappointed in what I found. However, I did climb the huge tower up the path past the gates. I figured oging very late would make it a little scarier, I heard nothing, I saw nothing, it kinda sucked. But I am glad I went.

Owen Boudreau says:

September 1, 2010, 3:00 pm

Some of the things in this write-up is true. But the part about the 8 gates is just a rumor. I have been a resident of Worcester, MA my whole life. And have been coming to Spider Gates since I was 6. I believe this place could possibly be haunted due to past paranormal expiriences in the place. In conclusion there is only 1 gate in the entire place. But inside this one gate spooky things have been known to happen. Trust me.

i live on the coast so leicter is not exactly close to me, though i did hear many stories about spider gates. when i finally got there i was underwhelmed to say the least. it is nothing more than an old cemetery. i am sure there are paranormal things that occur there but nothing that i personally experienced. i am glad that i went but when it comes to something like this it is best left to the imagination.

I grew up in Auburn, which is about a 15 min. drive to Spider Gates. I graduated in 1984, and Spider Gates was legendary back then, too. I went twice to investigate the alleged paranormal activity there. Once was at night, with a bunch of guys I knew in a band. The only sounds we heard was once of the guys howling trying to scare me. The second time, I went years later with my lifelong best friend to get to the bottom of the legend. There is only one gate, spider-webbish in design, thus the name. The gravestones are nothing special or ornate, but many are pretty old. Back then, the legend said that as you passed each gate, ou wuld lose a different limb, until you finally bled to death. I walked to the back of the cemetery, over the stone wall, and through a wooded area. After a few minutes, I came to a beautiful stream with pretty flowers blooming everywhere. I was just about to cross it when I heard gunshots in the distance. It was then that I discovered that we had walked to the back end of the Leicester Rod and Gun Club, of which my Uncle was a lifelong member. I realized that the story was probably concocted to keep kids away from the rod and gun club and keep them from getting accdently shot! I’m not saying that the cemetery is definitely not haunted; through my studies I have learned that most cemeteries will have occurences of “orbs” at times. Sorry to debunk a cool childhood rumor, but there is nothing to the legends of Spider Gates.

Kim says:

October 26, 2010, 2:20 am

Forgot to mention…the orange and blue lights you see are lights from the runways at the Worcester airport, which borders the woods around Spider Gates. And if you do go, you def. have to eat at Hot Dog Annies! Get the bbq dogs!

Spider Gates is protected by a a secret cult which controls many of the local communities including the board of selectmen in Leicster MA. When police patrols are heavy in the area of Spider Gates that means there is a ceremony is being preformed within the walls of the eight gates. The other 7 gates are only visible during an orange moon in the harvest season. During this time if you pass through the main gate 3 times while reciting the Hail Mary from the last word to the first word ( in reverse), cross over the alter with your eyes closed and not making a single sound, then listen for and follow the sound over the second wall and to the babbling brook. Follow the brook up stream to the first wooden fence line, do not cross the fence line with out a blessed cross, because beyond that fence you will encounter the red eyed hoofed beast!

My friends and I went there a couple years ago…we didnt see anything haunted although just being there around Halloween it was creepy. We did get stopped by the police on the way back to the car so be careful because they do patrol the area frequently.

I’ve been to Spider Gates a few times and never had any experiences, I was creeped out a bit but had no experiences. The couple times I have been there have only been during the day anyway. BUT! My dad’s fiance took pictures in the cemetary at night and there were orbs over each grave in the cemetary, so I am undecided.

Jeremy says:

November 10, 2011, 6:50 am

DO NOT GO TO SPIDER GATES!. First and foremost, my friend had been on multiple occasions. The time I joined him the cops gave him a citation, apparently because he had already been told not to visit again. It is a private and active cemetery still used today. Secondly, there IS only one gate, and a few graves. The “River Styx” is a small stream that runs through the area, not large enough to put a toy boat in. The walk there is long, and adds to spookiness, but there is nothing there to mention or to write home about. Again, if you go there you will most likely be shunned away by Leicester police. In response to the orange moon post, if you are to do something as complicated as you say, then obviously it is meant for noone to do and therefore is a crock of bull.

Hey everyone I’ve lived in worcester my entire life and some stories about the place are true, and some are plain myth . As far as murders there’s only one real accounted for of a Six year old getting beat to death by a young adult (19) in front of one of the three hidden caves. Many people have been there and not found much but let me tell you there’s more then meets the eye. As far as directions follow the back or the worcester regional airport untill your next to the end of the runway with the giant red lights flashing on one side of the street . And a huge feild to the other side of it, they’ll be a yellow bar that’s a barracade for cars to not enter a path. Follow the path about a mile or so and you’ll be at the entrence of spider gates.

Alive in Worcester MA says:

Cemeteries are never haunted.. anyone that has actually had REAL encounters knows this. People who have passed on really do have better things to do than hang around a cemetery. People are buried there after they die, and really have NO other connection with the cemetery itself. Ask yourself, if you came back as a ghost.. would you really, and honestly hang around in a cemetery? I sincerely think not.

Alive in Worcester MA says:

September 9, 2013, 9:30 pm

Also, I might add it’s called “Spider Gates” by people because of the design on the gate.. Not the number of them.

noyb says:

December 15, 2013, 9:21 pm

Wow shut up Ellen it actually IS ALLOWED to be entered as long as its in the daytime and not night gee like most cemeteries and per the cemetery policy. Are u a frigging quaker? Just because some stupid street was named after one of or long dead possible relatives YOU dont own the cemetery so stop playing at cop and look up the actual visiting policy for worcester-pleasant st friends meeting.

Mike says:

I guess the obvious question is if nobody has ever made it to the eighth gate, how does one know the eighth gate is there?

One would have to have made it to the eighth gate to validate its existence, right?

It’s like the whole thing where if one dies in their dream, they die in real life. If somebody did die while asleep, how would one know what the person had been dreaming about prior to death to validate they dreamt that they died?

Kate says:

February 28, 2016, 12:47 pm

There’s only one gate, and it’s the main entrance. This is a peaceful cemetery that just so happens to be in the middle of nowhere because the building of the reservoir caused that part of town to become abandoned. Nothing ghostly there, only local urban legends.

Jon says:

November 1, 2016, 1:28 pm

Everybody goes through the main gate, there is a dirt path that brings you to a different part that has really thin grave stones only about 2 inches thick. If you want to experience weird stuff find the path that brings you to that part of spider gates, all the videos on line are of the main gate and cemetery not the one where strange things happen. The gate is larger and broken not like the one in the main cemetery and the grass is over grown and the grave stones are way thinner. If you want paranormal activity find the overgrown path and broken gate
