Resurrection Mary
One raining day, a woman was killed as she was leaving the ceremony. Today, she hitchhikes, in her wedding dress, along 79th street. After one picks her up for a ride, she vaishes, leaving the seats and car floor wet from that rainy night.

Folks, this what I think. The woman’s name was Mary Brigovi and was just about to celebrate her 21st birthday way back in 1934. She was coming home from a dance hall when she was tragically killed in a traffic accident. She was buried in Resurrection Cemetery in her favorite gown. They say she’s a ghostly hitchhiker because she’s trying to get home in South Daymon, but disappears in your back seat at the cemetery gate instead.

actually …. the gates were not bent…… there were handprints burned into bars on the gate that even when painted over came back my uncle is a fireman in the area and the bars were actually removed and replaced because they were causing too many problems

I guess most of the comments are correct some are stupid funny but most of them are true. Now if you wanna see some scary **** then you have to go to “MUNKS” castle and touch the head of the stone that says private property thats in the middle of the road that leads right in the middle of the church and the castle it is said that if you touch the head and make a wish it will come true thats what i heard. But that is only if you do it before the munks come out the house and get your *** the rumor has it if the munks catch you before you leave they will cut your knees and make you kneel on salt now thats what I heard from several people. If anybody wants to try that go ahead go straight on Archer and pass the woods keep going straight passing Willow Springs Road it will be on the right hand side and then comment on what happen now I aint stupid enough to try it but some people are for the thrill.

The actual story:
“Resurrection Mary” is the best-known ghost story in the Chicago area.
According to the legend, a young Polish girl (between 17 and 22) was killed in a car crash in the early 1930s and buried in Resurrection Cemetery. Her death occurred on the way back from a dance at the nearby O’Henry Ballroom (now called the Willowbrook Ballroom).
She is now encountered as a “Vanishing Hitchhiker”. Several people have reported picking her up as a hitchhiker, taking her to or from the ballroom. As the car passes Resurrection, she usually vanishes. She is described as looking like a living person, speaking very little, wearing a 1930’s ball gown. Sometimes her flesh is cool to the touch.
In a 1977 incident, a passerby saw a woman locked inside the fence of the cemetery after dark. Rather than stopping, he called the police, who came to let her out. When the police arrived, she was nowhere to be seen – but they discovered that two bars of the main gate had been bent outwards, and the bars bore the imprint of human hands. Officials quickly removed the bars – but, embarrassed, later re-installed them, using a blowtorch to obscure the handprints. The two burned areas can still be seen.

Brandi’s story is the most accurate story. Yes,it’s the famous hitchiker ghost in ballroom dress and the gate are both true. My family are buried there and I go to cementary several times a year and have seen the two bars on the gate being replaced over the year with new bar or temporarly covered w/ chain link fence. It was an on-going thing with the bar until that painted the gate gold instead of green…I haven’t seen the two bars being damaged or replaced anymore.

“Munks Castle”….heard that if you go there and the munks catch you hanging around, they will make you pray all night and let you go in the morning.
Mary is supposed to have been seen hitchhicking in a gown and if you pick her up, she will disappear in your car. That’s all I heard.

13 years ago I was doing an internship at ABC for show called Chicago Stories with Janet Davies, is no longer on the air – thougth that show 190 N is very similar. Anyway, we were gathering information to produce a show. One of our possible topics was going to be on this man, who had something called “Ghost Bus Tours” though is wasn’t Richard Crowe, it another guy, a competitor, I can’t think of his name. Anyway, I did the Ghost Bus Tour, didn’t see anything. However, this man had a lot of pictures of ghosts etc. things in Chicago.
I did see a picture that he broke in of the wrought iron bars and they were bent and looked like finger prints were burnt into the melted iron. Very strange, he had mentioned they were eventually removed.
He also had a videotape that someome had casually taped while on one of his tours. Has to be the spookiest thing I saw, and that was of a Monk, sitting on the first step inside of Jane Adam’s Hull house. It was very bizarre because you could see him, yet also see through him. He had his head bent down and was wearing a rob, let’s just say he looked very Menacing, I would venture to say he looked more like the Grim Reaper. I have since heard other people have seen about 4 monks at this location.
Another thing on the tape was of an Irish Mansion on the South side, where you clearly see a woman in a long white dress literally “glide” across the top floor while looking through the window, she then walks out on the balcony and glides rigt off the balcony. I had later read that she is the widow that used to live in that house.
We checked the tape for any tampering but it was authentic. Unfortunately we never ended up running the story, but it was some creepy stuff.

As far as I have read on this story, the closest to the truth is Pete who posted in 4/2006. I have seen this story several times on the show “Unsolved Mysteries”. As for the account about the man who picked her up and took her home it is all true according to the broadcast, only when he drove past the cemetary, she asked him to stop and then she disappeared into the cemetary. He went to her mother’s home the next day after Mary had told him her name when he met her at the ballroom. Also it is true that cabbies have picked her up as well. Check it out if you can from past archives at the unsolved website if you can.

A few years back when I was a teenageR my friends and I tried to contact her. We went in the parking lot of Chet’s Melody Lounge, which is across the street and we busted out the witch board, (similar to a ouija board but made by whiches and is circular). Anyways, we went by there and didn’t see anything. The bars were still there, but it looked more like rust than handprints on the bars.

Last spring me, my aunt, my mom, and my two cousins went to the cemetery to look for the fingerprints and other wierd things, but we never really got out of the car, so we didn’t see very much. I had heard of this from Wierd NJ, a local magazine, and decided to go. When we went nothing wierd happened, so we left. it said in the article that the place where the fingerprints were were replaced, so we didn’t see it.

i need to write this cos i was a sceptic….
me and my ex moved to a house in glasgow… lentran street.. a few years back… my ex told me she thought one of the kids had came back from school and she got up from her bed and found herself chasing shadows as she ran round like a circle kitchen/ living room and hall…. she told me that nite and i pissed myself laughn tho she was as white as a sheet.. i made a joke about the spirit paying towards the mortgage. Anyways a few days later our neighbour told her about a young lass was seen at the end of the hall near the toilet and outside door again i laughed it off. Our relationship was going downhill one day i was in the living room and she in the bedroom when both of us heard what sounded like a window being hit by a small stone…. i ran into room to see if someone hit the window but my ex said it came from the room i was in… baffled i thought nothing of it… nothing happened for ages except our relationship slipped and i let her friend go on holiday with my ex in my stead.. i watched our little kid who was about 9 months old… we both slept in the double bed.. anyhow one night i was awoken by very loud music from the living room, i jumped up and ran in thinking i was gonna meet a burglar but nobody was there i put the hi-fi off and put it down to a timer and went back to sleep. A few days later whilst sleeping i awoke but could not lift my head but could move other parts of my body, my eyes were open and i had the sensation of what felt like a hand holding my the front of my face down and even tho i could not lift my head it wasn’t like the hand was forcing me down with heavy force, it was like a gentle pressure but with a strange amount of pressure. At first i got a little scared but then i managed to blurt out “don’t do that again” and was immediately or appeared to be released instantly…. i know some people have written in about mary and treat it as a joke just as i did before my experience tho i never saw anyone it was amazing to feel such power that held my head down with no force at all. The truth is until we experience something ourselves we will always joke about spirits… all i can say is i waited till we split and moved to different houses before admitting to my ex that something or some presence was definately there…. like all other sceptics i still wonder why i do not get to see my own family? … however i did meet a medium after being asked by my sister to attend to make up the numbers for a private reading and i was blown away by what the message that was given to me but thats another story… and no the medium did not ask questions and told us not to say anything except react to what he was passing on… he used to be on radio but has been on sky tv and is doing stuff for channel 5 in uk but what he came out with was utterly amazing… am now relieved that there is life after death….. am converted

One of the most famous stories around the country, and they can’t even get it right. Also, to remeber that they have replaced the gate several times and people report seeing her standing at the gate, and there are permant burn marks in the metal that look like someone was holding the bars. They need to correct this story, and tell all the story.

I am a 44 year old mom and I have family buried there and I have taken my children there as well to not only visit our dead family but check out the story.
We were looking for our family (dead) and came across a grounds keeper he showed us where she was buried (R. Mary) He said he never had anything weird happen but has friends he works with had weird things and heard things at night that would make your skin creep.
There is no headstone but she is between her mother and her Aunt. There were flowers in the middle of the graves so someone knows she is there (maybe her family still living). We took photo’s and yes there are orbs in the photos but go figure there would be we WERE in a cemetery. The front gates did NOT have finger imprints as if she was getting in or out but it was definetly was weird. Discolored and in the shape of fingers, it just gave me a very creepy chill (as it did my kids).
So here you have it, belive it or not I choose to belive I was there, continue to go there and visit Mary and my family and the finger discoloring is always there and in the same spot.
