Rogue’s Hollow
This whole area of town is haunted by the victims of a derailed train. Sometimes the light of the train may be seen. The main complaint, however, is that if one is crossing the tracks, his car will stall. The only thing he can do is sit there and let the phantom train pass through his vehicle. The nearby mill, which has been abandoned for many years, is said to start up every Halloween.
I have been there and I have never seen it. Now if You go to the Cambridge apartments you will see some weird stuff.

I used to live right outside of Clinton, and one time my mom and i were going to the grocery store and we started to cross the railroad tracks and the car just shut off…luckily, my mom started the car befor the train came!

the only place tracks cross the road in clinton is on route 641. take exit 18 from westbound 78 this is cr 626, go 2 or 3 blocks turn right on cr 641. I looked this info up on google earth maybe its the right place, maybe not but im going to go and see

I have never heard of this one, but my husband, Calvin Milder, has told me about the house on 4th Ave N where his cousin, Bill Greathouse used to live, had a ghost. He also told me about the haunted warehouse formerly operated by Carlon, now torn down, where only he was brave to go to after dark. And he also said strange things happened at the old train depot.
We now live in FL, hurricane country. We don’t miss the snow at all.

Does anyone live near cambridge apartments or have stories from there, I’ve drivin by and did some work near them once. they always gave me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I also have heard that the facier day spa that is on 2nd street near lyons is haunted. What about Joyce Mansion or the Aylett Cotton house I remember hearing something about a fire once and the widow being burned alive looking for her dead husband out on the river when out on her widow walk. Anyone else heard of this?

I used to live in the cambridge apartments. couldnt say if i had ever seen anything weird, just weird people LOL. Its in the North end of clinton toward Eagle Point park. Address is 2604 N 4th St. Also near the Eagle Point Nursing Home and the Skyline center. Going towards Eagle Point Park from the north end of clinton, you will see kwik star, go past main ave. and go up about a block or two and take a left, which you could turn left on 25th 26th or even 27th ave N and you will run into it either way. Its a Big Complex. hope my directions to the Cambridge Place Apartment were good enough.

I used to live in Clinton. I lived in the north end Lyons, and have visited the cambridge aprtments many times, and never had any experiances. My friends and I went ghost hunting with our camera’s there once too and turned up nothing. Im not a debunker tho. I very much belive in ghost because, I have experianced it. they are real!

My comment was longer but, I guesse it chopped half of it off. I want further to say, that the possibility of some unsettled souls still residing at cambridge, is possible, because the facility used to be a veterans hospital many years ago. I however experianced nothing there. The same night my friends and i went ghost hunting and gambridge and turned u nothing, we stopped also at the cemetary across the street from mount St claire college, and got wome weird stuff on the pictures

That sounds alsome. it would be great for me and my team to head up there to try and catch it on film or on any camras just place on off watching the crossing and see if a train comes if any one trys to cross. or at least got out there with a digital recoder and see if you get any evps. if any one has any qusetions just leave a comment here i will keep checking up on this. and any ones qustions.

I’ve been to the Abbley house before and it makes for one hell of a scary night. The first night my friends and I went a small light was lit on the inside of the house, but just last saturday we went again this time with a night vision video camera but when we arrived lights were lit all over the house. We waited to see what was up and eventually someone walked outside and whistled at us so we left, but we are still planning on going there again because from the stories we’ve heard about this place it has to be haunted, just looking at the tree where the husband hung himself is creepy enough, especially since it will never burn down.

fyi: there was a book published about rouges hollow many years ago– can be found in libraries still . photos , history & such . cases of the “activities” there claim to have been documented by authorities ? until about 25-30 yrs. ago the book was sold @ a residence in the hollow , by a woman known as the “witch” [by her own account]. she was elderly @ that time , doubt she’s still alive –she would tell stories of the hollow & her experiences , sell maps of the different locations & tell a brief story of why the hollow is the way it is , which is based on real cases of tragity over a long period of time . it was a mining community . last time i was there many of the roads were closed with access to the numerous sites limited .

I’ve lived in Clinton my whole life, and have been to Cambridge many, many times. I used to run the halls, and I have never seen anything ghostly or bizarre. I guess you only see what you want to see. I did hear that the Penthouse Lounge was haunted. I used to hang there too, and never saw anything, although many people have told me they have.

i wanna know what happens in Cambridge also i lived there and i always felt funny,really funny,i heard that in the burned down apartments soldiers are there and it’s bad not to go there but i dont know.
If you wan’t something scary me and my friend were playin basketball at elijha buell elementary school and there were like 40-50 buzzards flyin above the school,and then we went and looked in the windows of a classroom and we saw someone walkin in it,and there were no cars in the parking lotor anything,and a light kept turning on and off so that was freaky when the thing moved towars us we ran!! lol

The Thirteen Steps are real!!! If you are going to visit there though, please make sure that you are respectful. I live in Cedar Rapids, and have been an IOWA resident all of my life. The police department are very watchful of this area and know that there are those that are using it as a game. I suggest, if you are for real, to arrange a time that the authorities know that you are there. If you are reallt investigating and are legit, you should not have any issues getting permission.
There are many places in CR that are hsunted as well and contrary to popular belief, Scary S**T does happen in the land of Corn and Cows!!!

I’ve heard of Thirteen Steps and have lived in Iowa my whole life. If you are truly looking for a creepy place to visit, try any of the older buildings in Marion, like the Granger House or the Heritage Museum. In all the times I’ve been in the granger house, I always got the feeling of being watched.

The Abbley house is right down the road from one of my dad’s farms. The most recent story I have heard is a lady from chicago bought it for a weekend cabin but other people in the area say she is only by herself & looks like a storybook witch. I go down to the end of the road every once & a while to see if anyone is outside & meet the owner but have never seen anyone there. I never see any cars there or people in the windows or anything. The Abbley house is out of Galena IL to the east on stagecoach trail about 2 miles then you go north on posey hollow road when you go under the railroad tracks go left & follow that all the way to the rickety old bridge over the galena river & there it sits way back to the north but there is a gate to get in that is always locked. Oh yea that is the end of the road too it used to go into galena years ago but got washed out in the 30s & never put back. when you leave go straight past posey hollow on the gravel take that to the stop sign then go left up the hill to council hill station there is a Jo Daviess county history book with the story of the Abbley house in it & all 3 familys that were murdered by the man of the household.

Ok, I have a friend who lived for a short time at Caimbridge apartments, and she used to tell me about wierd stuff, or feeling wierd a lot, so I’m sure there’s some things going on there.
Now, for Rogue’s Hollow, I grew up in Clinton, and have never heard of it, I’d love to go visit it when I’m home once…how about someone posting those directions?
Springdale Cemetary…now that’s a spooky place. Been there in the heat of summer and been followed by a car with a driver covered in black coat, hat, and gloves…ghost or axe murderer I’ll never know, but didn’t go back to find out.

I’ve lived in Clinton my whole life and i’ve never heard of Rogue’s Hollow. But my brother goes to Ashford University which was, Mount Saint Claire at one point and they closed the last dorm floor off due to people saying it’s really haunted. I believe Washington Middle School is haunted I have a story but I don’t want to share it. I’ve been to the Springdale Cemetary nothing happened to us it was just really scary…But that’s about it

ITS ALL VERY TRUE. cLINTON HAS ALOT MORE SPOOKS THAN YOU’LL EVER REALIZE. THE HOUSE I LIVE IN IS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF CLINTON AND IS VERY HAUNTED. THERE ONCE WAS A ARMY NURSE THAT LIVED IN THIS HOUSE AND TO THIS DAY I CAN HEAR HER NYLONS SLIDING TOGETHER WHEN SHE WALKS. SHE HAS EVEN WOKE ME UP A TIME OR TWO. I FOUND OUT 10 YEARS AFTER I MOVED IN HERE THAT SHE DIED IN THE FRONT BEDROOM OF THIS HOUSE. AFTER SHE RETIRED FROM THE SERVICE SHE WASHED LAUNDRY FOR SOME AREA DOCTORS AND WE CAN STILL HEAR THE WATER RUNNING IN THE BASEMENT AT NIGHT. IT’S REAL FREAKIE.

And Clinton was never a mining town. Logging town yes mining no. and as far as train derailments go look up the history of clinton and try to find one that killed a bunch of people good luck i can’t. Rogue’s Hollow isn’t in Clinton. It isn’t even in Iowa. Rogue’s hollow is located in Ohio. So IPSCOgoose if you want directions go to Ohio and ask for them. Sorry to burst your collective bubbles but I had to look it up and that is what I found.

yeah so i went to the abbey house and documented as much as possible but its private property so some guy came up at us and was all like “my uncle owns this house get off his property” so we had to leave. Fortunately, we knew where they were all buried so we went to the cemetary and documented its some pretty messed up stuff…i guess the parents both died in 1877 but all the kids died in 1860…except for one that died in 1864…pretty weird stuff. I plan on furthering my documentation hopefully into the house but a word of advice to anyone going up there, be very careful unless you want a huge fine

Hey Kenny, you were talking about the Abbey house/Abley house whatever you want to call it….So i live like 10 miles from the house if that…I’ve been goin there for years and everytime the lights are either all off or ALL on…one time i went the lights were all on we walked up onto the train tracks and all at once every light turned off! Scary! so i was wondering where exactly i can find this book. I am very interested in finding the real story behind all this! THanks

The Abbley House- Its located outside Galena, Illinois actually in the township of Council Mounds.
Story- Husband goes crazy hangs children in trees in backyard hangs wife on meat hook in basement. Husband go’s missing. Older son lived about 60 miles away gets word of this goes home finds father and shoots him then kills himself.
My experiences- I have been to the house 3-5 times in my life. Only once did anything big happen. I went with a group of around 8 teenage guys. Myself and 1 guy stand back behind the cattle gate that someone put in. The others hopped it and we had walkie talkies. We first heard a faint voice to get out of the house. People in the house heard nothing. Then both walkie talkies started playin some older classical funeral style music we hear them runnin and yellin something is chasin them so we all jump in the cars and leave as we leave we r bein chased by a greenish orb then the car I was in got a flat tire. Flat tires r a common thing to happen out there but once u get them off the dirt road the house is on and back to a air pump they fill up and hold air no problem.
Chicago people have bought the house and live there during the summer and use it as a getaway durin the rest of the year. They will call the cops and we will get arrested if u go there now

seriously the house is owned by some peoples and they have cameras all over the property. Once your car goes passed the gate it triggers a automatic dialing system that calls the cops. You can still see the house and not get in trouble by climbing the old stone steps up the railroad. Its scary ****. i went there twice. the first time ntohing really happened just some screams and then the second time some **** went down and now no one ever wants to go back. My friends used to get high and **** over there..its like fifteen minutes away…

for one the abbley house has no dialing system ive been there i live not to far from there it does have an alarm system on the house when i went there me and some friends drove up in a jimmy it all of a suden broke down and would not start we stayed there for 3 hours we went in the root cellar where the wife was killed nothing happend untill we had to walk back to the main roud yes the jimmy would not start at all so when we were walking back down the dirt road some one was falowing us they were on the hill you could here the branches breaking when we looked back we could see a lighted lantern come up the dirt road but never got close to us if you want proof contact me at johny611@hotmail.com

Ok lets get this strait. It’s the Abbley house not the Abby house. I have the complete story from a court document in a book I have. Jacob Abblys wife was hung in the back yard in a tree that died and was cut down 40 years ago. His two sons plotted to shoot himbecause they thought he killed there mom. They did shoot him and he died in the house not in the cellar nothing happened in there. My Grandpa and Uncle have farmed the land for many years. I have been in the house many of times when the previous owner had it and know my uncle owns it. Please if you do try to find the house to get a quick scare respect other peoples property he has had a lot of vadalism been done and the repair does cost money the house does have a security system and my uncle may meet you with a shotgun because he has run into some drunk kids that cause trouble

The Abbley House is real. I used to live in Galena. One night my sister went there with some friends. When they were driving down the road to get there, there was a faint image of a car. My sister looked back in front of her. The faint image of the car was no longer behind her! It was in front og her! Then my sister got to the Abbley House, she walked up the steps, there was a black cat that had red eyes and started hissing. My sister ran down the stairs. Some guy came out and was from Chicago. He had a gun annd told my sister and her friends to go away.

Its pretty cool but i forgot to say they think the person that haunts the place is a little girl that hung herself because she had just found out she had cancer and it was back in the day so there was no help for her

There is indeed a Rogues Hollow in Clinton as I have just been there last night and I have only journeyed cry baby bridge as of yet and although I did not hear the crying of the infamous baby drowned… there are alot of orbs in the area and it is easy to find.

13 steps is a Joke. My buddy was a Park Officer a couple of years ago. We went up into the cememtary many nights, nothing ever happened. But yet many people seem to believe stuff happens there. I live like 3-4 miles away from it. It is behind a gate, You have to walk up the hill to get it. But I wouldn’t go there at night. There is a house right next to it, and they will call the Sheriff, because I know them. Funny thing was we were up there on Halloween about 3 years ago, and boy did we scare the He** outta some people. Oh BTW, its like 22 steps now or somthing, the original 13 steps have been added on to and repaired to make it easier for people to get up to the cemetary.

We went up to Galena to find the Abbley House today, when we stopped at a gas station to ask about it the woman working there gave us directions to where its at. Although we did not go all the way into where the house sits, but as you get closer you begin to get a errie feelings that you are NOT welcomed there. There is a long history on this house even before the Abbley murders. Rogue’s Hollow,Doylestown Ohio, from Wikapedia
One of the many crybaby bridges is located near Doylestown, Ohio, in an area known as Rogue’s Hollow. This bridge is located on Galehouse Road, between Rogue Hollow Road and Hametown Road. The bridge spans Silver Creek. Deep in Rogue’s Hollow, this road previously led from the bottom of the hollow (Hametown Rd.) to the top (Rogue Hollow Rd.). The bridge is only approachable from Hametown Rd., as the steeper portion of the road was closed and removed. The bridge is property of the Rogue’s Hollow historical society, which also owns the adjacent Chidester Mill.

It is a very haunted area! Had a lot of fun there!

So I’ve lived in Clinton my whole life. There’s not a whole lot to my life I’m only 14.
But I have been in the Cambridge Apts.
I wouldn’t doubt that they’re haunted.
I loved staying there with my friend who lived there for two years. But you do get that feeling that something’s going on and it’s not great. But the whole hospital thing I have heard is real, and I have always been terrified to even go near them, they looked mighty scarey when I went there.
Other then the appts. I don’t really know of anything else around here actually being haunted.
For the crybaby bridge I heard is real and creepy.
Planing on within the next couple years gettin a group to go and see if anything happens.

Hey I’ve lived in Clinton and have all my life but I have never seen any railroad tracks haunting, but yea some parts of Cambrige are haunted. I remember one time me and my friend were walking our dogs and her dog, a black lab,broke of his leash and ran into a hole in the wall the only way in or out because this building of Cambige was closed but anyways we ran after him and we heard wimpering and crying… so we went in there and we couldn’t see anything so we ran back to her apartment which wasn’t far and we got a flash light we went back and the floor was covered with blood and the dog was dead, if you’ve ever seen The Hills Have Eyes, the dog was cut open like that we both stated screaming and crying and I threw up and it was horrible…. we went back and told her mom and then her mom went back to check becasue she didn’t believe us… and there was no dog…no blood… nothing… they never got there dog back… but they ended up moving… anyways If you are going to go to Clitnon for a HAUNTED house I recommend Cambridge apartments.

O.K. This is a really CREEPY Story…… Someone told me about this place on the river in Clinton on the southside under the bridge…. they said that if you go there at exactly Midnight that you can hear Screams of some people that got murdered down there by some homeless Dude… So when i heard that i didnt believe him so my Dumb self went down there to try it out and i was down there and it hit midnight and i didnt hear anything… so i was really pissed off that i came down there…. and i was leaving and it was exactly 12:01 and i heard the screams! it was the scariest thing i have ever seen or heard of in my LIFE!!!

i crossed this railroad track and found myself stalled on them and could not move my car. i was scared shitless. my car just stopped! then the bars came down on my 1994 honda and a train was coming! my doors jammed and would not open. the train got so close to my car and passed thru my flippin car. holy **** my car just got hit and i am alive to share this story omg. i swear to god this is true and i will never travel to this place again. P.S. this track is on route 15 in Clinton, Ohio not Clinotn, Iowa. 5 miles out of cleveland.
