Ruthmear Mansion
This mansion is plagued by many phantoms throughout the year, but especially on Halloween night. On Halloween, alarms sound and lights go on and off, though the house is empty. Objects may also be seen flying through the rooms, and there have even been reports of gun shots in the house.

My grandmother was the daughter of Arthur and Stella Beardsley. She grew up in the Ruthmere House and entertained us with her many wonderful happy memories. The Beardsleys were an are the greatest sort of folks and to think that Ruthmere is haunted is pure hogwash.

My grandmother was Olive Beardsley. (Edwards sister) I was raised in her household. She grew up in the Ruthmere Mansion and had many wonderful stories about it. e.g. Ruthmere was the first residence in Indiana to have an elevator.
As her father built the house it would seem that there wouldn’t be many
possible candidates to haunt the place. Unless it was built on an Indian burial ground. My grandmother never mentioned anything like that to me. However I firmly believed grandmother had some kind of Extra Sensory Perception.(E.S.P) For example…later in life when ever I was in a jam about something (business, relationships etc) she would call me in the middle of the night and the first thing i would hear her say was “Whats the matter?” She would know when I was struggling with something.
I lost touch with the Beardsleys after they moved to Arizona and my grandmother passing away. If there are any Beardsley descendants who would like to correspond I would be thrilled to hear from you.
Sincerely,
John at revengesArthur Earl

Does anyone know the story about the Cable Line Monster in Elkhart IN? It was near where the dead man’s tree was. About 25 years ago a kid on a motorcycle hit the tree with such an inpact his outline scarred the tree. It was that way for years on Cable Line Road. Last time I was in IN the tree had been cut down.
i do remember as a kid this tree and my exfather in law telling me the story of the person on the motorcycle and we did stop to look at the tree….all the bark was gone on the tree where the person hit it and it did look like a person on the tree as for it being haunted there i dont know never been there at night or long enough to find out

I used to work for a local security company here in Elkhart. We had audio monitoring of this house. Meaning, sound would set off the alarm, and we could hear everything going on inside this home. I could hear the old pipes banging, and it was obvious. But the laughter and humming of a child or woman would also be heard. We would also hear things that sounded like furniture moving, or a dragging sound. Upon calling the contact keyholder, they would confirm that nobody should be in the home, and after a walk-through, they would again confirm that nobody was there.

I am 59 years old and have lived in Elkhart all my life. This is about the cable line road, which is south of town in the area of the farmers market that was recently closed down. Even I’m not sure anymore exactly which road it was since the power company removed the large cables. It’s been quite a looonggg…. time since this happened to me and my father, 44 ??? years..or so.
First off I want to say that at the time nothing seemed that odd too me however my father was scared out of his wits. What the heck, I was a dumb teenager who didn’t know any better.
Also, I never heard of ‘the monster’, back in the 60′s it was ‘the witch of the cable line road’there were some pretty messy accidents as well as other odd things probably due to the low wires along the road. But you know how people are!!!
My father sold cars and was determined that I was going to get my license as soon as possible so even though I wasn’t old enough he was teaching me to drive. This did NOT happen even close to midnight but was just after dark, around 8:30, and to best of my memory was summer, not fall.
He insisted that I know how to drive on all kinds of roads and knew just where to find this perfectly awful dirt/gravel one was…right off cable line road. All I thought at the time was YUCK…!!!!!!!!!
So here I was driving the road of my ‘dreams’ fields on the left and woods on my right when ‘she’ walked out of the woods ahead of the car. She walked to the middle of the road and stood there with her hands out swaying a little from side to side, like she needed help. Even though it’s been years I still remember she was thin and wore a faded dress that was longer than was worn in the 60′s, mid shin maybe but not longer. Her face looked kind of haggered but I got the notion she might be less than 30 years old.
My father freaked, STOP!! He yelled in my ear. I kept going…she needed help and there weren’t any houses nearby…was what I said. He got mad and took over the car slamming on the brakes and BACKING, at full speed all the way back up the ‘road of my dreams’ until we got back to the cable line road. He was terrified, I honestly thought he was going to have a heart attack and we got home in record time that evening.
All he said at the time was it had probably been a trick to get us to stop and then rob us but not a lot of that sort of thing was going on around here back in the 60′s. Well I guess things change, don’t they???
That’s what happened to me and none of it seemed unusual until I started telling people the next day thats when my older brother said I’d seen ‘the witch’.
In any case my father never forgot!!!
